To be honest I always found that a bit poncey, dont like in soccer or rugby.

Plus - its nothing to do with the players on the pitch - whats it got to with them what a team did five years ago if they werent around then.

There was something bugging me about the new one apart from the shoulders but I couldn’t put my finger on it... look at the fûcking size of the sponsor on the new shirt, completely oversized compared to the ample previously sized sponsor.

Doesn't look much bigger tbh.

It is massive on the LGFA jersey, so maybe you're comparing it with that?

Not a hope you would you would find that Umbro top in Carrolls. Even doctor google cant find it for me:D

Carroll's definitely had them at one point.

It was around 1999 ish. Wore it to the Armagh game in Croker in the year we played Cork in the final down in Pairc ui Chaoimh.
Remember that well due to waking up still half drunk and leaving the house with no jacket, just my Umbro top. Jesus did i suffer...

It was a polo top. Small Dublin badge on the chest, Umbro sign on the other side. Atha Cliath on the sleeve. It was nearly all blue with sky blue down the sides. Very plain.

Cant remember where i picked it up. Nowhere special anyhow!
Right i'll leave it there before i get booted off this thread for boring everybody;)

I remember the exact shirt you're talking about. We definitely had them for sale in the sports shop in Arnotts and it was in most other sports retailers and in Carroll's. 100%.

You essentially could have gotten it anywhere obviously.

We can talk about the anti-competitive behaviours of O'Neills and the GAA instead if you'd like? :P

Incidentally I picked up the previous shirt on O'Neills website for 50% off as well as a couple of masks to boot.

Yep, now I look again it’s just the girls jersey that seemingly has the larger sponsor. Probably to do with the anatomy and body shape of the wearer.

It would be a cracker of a shirt in my opinion if they’d left those three stripes off the shoulders though. Takes away from what could have been a really nice design turning into a bit of an average one.

As far as I am concerned design wise. No jersey has topped the 04/06 one.



Frustrating years on the field. But a fantastic jersey.

Now it a great team and a tippex style jersey.

Don't like the scuff design either. Possibly will make a top 3 of worst jerseys?

Jayus, I would have entirely different ratings! Was never a fan of them bendy/wavy stripes all over the place.
It goes to show no matter what jersey is out someone would buy like it.

I liked the 94-98 one all the same.

All these latest jerseys made since AIG seem very corporate in style, is the only way I can describe them.

I like being able to see the numbers though, white on light blue way easier than navy numbers. Used to moan about that for years.
Best thing about them imo.

Unfortunately seeing numbers won't be an issue for a long time as we are forced to watch telly

The material on those old jerseys was horrible sweat magnets! Dunno about newer stuff as stopped buying them but they seem bit lighter.

Reminds me of the almost wool-like jerseys you had to wear at school level haha.

Remember the retro jerseys made by the Retro GAA company (No longer in business) now they really were sweat magnets.

I wore the retro 83 jersey to the 2013 Leinster Hurling final. It was a cracking day and my god did I sweat. By the end of the game nearly all the jersey had turned dark navy. I look liked I'd played the full 70 minutes.

It was never wore again to a game.

Yeah, that jersey isn't the best for warms days.

I remember a few years back, one of the replays between Dublin and Mayo, I was in bits coming up to the final, had the flu or something like it. Spent the days in bed, by turns sweating like mad or freezing like I'm in the Baltics. The morning of the replay, I force myself out of bed, convinced myself that I was grand, pulled on my 83 retro jersey, and off I went.

Met my Mayo friends downstairs in the Porterhouse in Covent Garden, and that's were the real trouble started. The heat wave in London had my temperature through the roof, and I was basically sweating out every millilitre of water that I'd managed to get into me over the past few days. Not wanting to admit that I might not be ok, I spent the build-up and the match trying to lash back pints of Magners.

By the time we'd won, I was fit to past out. The room was spinning, and it definitely wasn't from the drink. Despite the place having some sound Mayo folk there, all congratulating me, I had to split. One of the few times I actually got a taxi during my time in London. It was days before I felt right.

Anyway, that's my memory of the 83 jersey. Still wear it, but never during a heatwave, and definitely not while sick.

Different world now, even a hint of flu like symptoms would have me isolating in my room.
