There is some controversy in italy at the moment regarding European countries not testing people thus having low infection rates.
China did the same at the beginning of the infection, not reporting on real figures to protect the economy. Now Europe seems to be doing the same
As for italians flying to Dublin for the Rugby, not sure how many of them will be in the mood, they may have other things to worry about at the moment

Yeah but the Coronavirus came about when FF were propping up a FG government.

Do you think that was a coincidence?

Seems to be that the EU is taking a stand together approach , probably as much a PR excercise as Anything. Logic seems to be out the window at the moment. I am wondering why all European sports have not been stopped as we get to grips on this. The only logical conclusion is money. Otherwise fans of different counties in different sports travelling around Europe for sports games would be one obvious thing to spread the disease and thus cease for the time being. You only need one or two fans in a crowded stadium to maybe be super spreaders. But of course that may panic people so rather then reduce the risk let’s keep games going so everything feels normal, that’s more important then preventing spread.

We really do have our heads up our asses on this. It’s a virus , I doesn’t follow our rules, it doesn’t care about borders or treaties. There is so much we can do to prevent if from spreading but money (economy/business) is taking priority over common sense.

Ah none of this until at least Liverpool mathatically win the league guys.. :L

Harris is looking at fúck all, he mentioned a Rugby match because of we are playing. If it were playing Scotland, France, England or Wales he wouldn't be tweeting.

SF are holding some town hall meetings, I think there was 800 at last nights one.

If that is the level you think we are currently at, Schools, Universities, and large amounts of work places need to closed immediately.

Do you think that is where we are at?

The are playing Serie A behind closed doors at the weekend.
Will probably be seeing that soon in a number of leagues.

That was Harris's statement above btw - go argue with him about it - if you dont like it.

Unnecessary public gatherings probably not the best idea atm

At lest last half of some 833 COVID-19 cases in Korea have been traced to a an infected 61-year-old woman recently attended two large gatherings there

Town hall lol ? Convention centre at Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork more like it.

Schools, Universities &work places necessary. Mary Lou mouthing off? Not so much imo.

    SeinFein supporter?

Yes. I’m just thinking about the guy Eoin who was on Liveline yesterday and on RTE last night; the guy who flew in from Korea at the weekend and asked to be tested by the HSE? He had been in contact with another person who has been confirmed Positive for Covid-19. Based on ‘Korea, Contact, Covid-19 and positive’ I would have tested Eoin.

You’d have to wonder if Korea, Italy or the NHS would have erred on the side of caution and tested him.

Up to February 16th the NHS had already tested over 3000 individuals and as of February 23rd nurses, paramedics and other staff in pilot areas can visit them in their own homes and test them there. In London, people suspected to have contracted coronavirus can just drive to health centres to be swabbed through their car window!

Here, if you have good reason to suspect you have been exposed, you have to call the HSE, then Joe Duffy, then Claire Byrne, ‘limit contact’ with other people - whatever that means, wait 4 to 5 days and then if/when you get sick, call the HSE again.

Seriously, what do you have to do to get a test in Ireland?!

By way of reassuring Eoin, I think the HSE execs should invite him over, shake his hand, share a pot luck dinner and take him to the match. They can sit with the Italians as a show of confidence.

I’m guessing we are at 79 tested now with the guy from Singapore last night. Oh well….

Phew... that won't effect things in ireland given the average attendances at football here...the north will be even safer!

The Match is 10 days away. Still plenty of time to cancel.

If the game goes ahead, the only way it will be seen is on TV/Sat/Cable.

I’m guessing we are at 79 tested now with the guy from Singapore last night. Oh well….I'm just guessing....

Meanwhile Scotland are publishing daily updates detailing the number of concluded tests for coronavirus (COVID-19) originating from Scotland. A total of 404 Scottish tests have concluded, of which 404 were confirmed negative (as of 24 February 2020).

We have a similar population to Scotland…what’s with only 78 people tested? Any update would be great.

Is it on a need-to-know here? Maybe it’s classified?!!!:-)

We're lucky in Ireland, we're an island at the end of a continent. If things heat up, we throw the switch on air and sea port closures and it as good as quarantines us and easily isolates any cases that may have been identified.

Nice idea, but did you watch Claire Last night?

It was less: ‘throw the switch’

More: ‘I tried to call the hse number provided after returning to Ireland from a work trip where I was in contact with two people who have confirmed Coronavirus, the number didn’t work.
When I did get someone on the phone I was told I would be grand and to go ahead to my work conference next week’

I kind of made my piece with the fact that Europe is now badly infected, most countries are pulling a China and pretend it's not happening in their territories. Hiding the truth might prevent irrational panic and possibly protect the economy for a little longer
Considering the 2 week incubation period it is not possible for a country - Italy - to go from 3 people to 200 in the span of 3 days, the numbers went up only when testing began

Canary Islands: hundreds of tourists tested after case in hotel

Spanish health authorities are carrying out tests on hundreds of tourists in a Canary Islands hotel after a coronavirus case has been identified.

Holidaymakers have been quarantined inside a complex in Tenerife, and local reports have named the hotel as the H10 Costa Adeje Palace in Adeje.

HSE Coronavirus page still hasn't been updated since 21/2, also says will only test people who meet the following:-

You will only need to be tested for coronavirus if you have symptoms and have in the last 14 days been:

in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus
to mainland China - this does not include Hong Kong or Macau
in a healthcare centre or hospital where patients with coronavirus were being treated

TBF since our health system cant even cope with the day to day, how are they to cope if they tell everyone who has been in any airport or public transport with a fever and a cough to get checked?
