If you don’t have a good economy then you don’t get nice things. That’s like politics 101, dude.

Money doesn’t grow on trees. Utopia doesn’t exist. If we didn’t spend 22 billion per annum on social welfare (pre crisis) then you could spend on infrastructure etc.

You don’t build houses with fresh air and good intentions. Needs cash, dude.

Hey dude, a fool and his money....

Under FG it does, depending on what it's for. Plenty for hotels and 25 year leases and bad deals.

You can't lease for 25 years, pay for hotels and finance bad deals with fresh air dude.

I genuinely hate to highlight your ignorance but feel obliged to gently point out that those expenses are being incurred mainly by local councils - few or any of which are run by FG!

But keep trying - one of your posts may yet prove to be factually accurate.

All that money and state wide policy coming from bin tags?
My point stands, your dodging is expected. Councils run everything except when there's a ribbon to be cut then Murphy and Varadkar are bumping into each other to take credit.

If the idea was sound, what exactly would you have done differently?

The idea was to have spare capacity in case hospitals were overwhelmed. To keep spare capacity you inevitably pay for empty beds. They got these beds at cost price.

What, exactly, is so wrong with this?

Got a better deal, managed the usage differently. I'm not a health expert but neither is the Minister of Health or the head of the HSE.

No they didn't. On average they paid four times above what the Brits paid over in the UK.
It's another case of FG running to private business with a blank cheque because they either can't or won't put the tax payer and society first.

These lads just don’t get it John, and probably never will.

They don’t seem to understand that to get ‘stuff’ one has to earn ‘stuff’ (usually called money) and to get money you have to make or do ‘stuff’, which you can then use to buy ‘stuff’.

These lads seem to think it grows on trees.

Now of course there are folk John, as you know, try to tell these lads that money does indeed grow on trees and they believe them.

There are other folk who try to tell them that -no-you have to work hard, get up early , spend little, be frugal, and of course these folk were hated and vilified and insulted and ridiculed.

It’s utopia against reality for these lads John, and like the opportunist who sees the easy opportunity, we know which road they will take.

Do you even know what discussions you do be posting these meaningless empty fortune cookie soundbites into? :)

You point stands in much the same way as a choc ice in a heat wave does. Although it's not half as tasty.

Anyway, I've had more than enough of your nonsense so am moving you to my "ignore" bin. Life is far too short and precious to be squandered on arguing with idiots.

    Cheerio and bon voyage.

"Get a better deal" than getting everything at cost price? How exactly would you manage that one? Manage the spare, emergency capacity in some way other than keeping it as spare, emergency capacity?

They paid 4 times above what the "Brits" paid if you compare cost per bed night used, not per capacity. And the entire concept was to have spare capacity.

The private hospitals are making less money than they would if this deal had not been done. They are making no profit and providing everything at cost, on an open book basis. The cost per patient is high because there is a lot of deliberate spare capacity. It is deliberately misleading of anyone to look at the cost per occupied bed.

Nothing you say makes the slightest bit of sense - FG could not find spare capacity anywhere else because you can't build a hospital in 2 days, they didn't go with a blank cheque because its an open book audited deal, and their buddies in the private sector are losing out on profit in order to engage in the deal.

So the Housing Minister has no say in any housing strategy in any area? What does he be doing with himself, when not using Covid number 19 for photo ops?
The Mayor of Waterford City and County Council, Councillor Pat Nugent, welcomed the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy, T.D., to Waterford

Put it in bold for ya horse.

Are you accusing Denis O'Brien of stealing money from over seas?

    Examples?

    Examples?

Cell phone deal, siteserv deal, water metering deal, broadband deal, hospital beds deal. I'm likely missing a few.
FG think the yellow pages is a Post-It with Dinny's number on it.

All state contracts are published in the European OJ journal, subject to rigorous process, and reasons for awarding the contract are made available to unsuccessful bidders. You’ll have to enlighten us as to how there’s anything nefarious about how these contracts are awarded. Are the civil service and semi state bodies corrupt, and taking bribes to award contracts?

Industrial estate near me, opened in the 70 s , extra units built ,extended or retrofitted every year, tenders go out, same company gets tender every time, for fifty fukin years, so yes state bodies are corrupt.

Never said nefarious, Dude, (although Siteserv is still under investigation and Lowry did take money). Does he not get paid plenty of money?
Either FG are awful at brokering deals on behalf of the tax payer or FG are engaged in crony behaviour...and awful at brokering deals on behalf of the tax payer.
No issues with Mr. O'Brien. Likely FG would buy the Brooklyn bridge off him at a loss to the tax payer. Dude ;)

How are FG brokering deals on behalf of the taxpayer? You do know how the separation between the civil service and the Houses of the O work? Are the Offices of the Comptroller and Auditor General involved in this grand conspiracy?

    Dude, what conspiracy, dude?
I pointed out examples, upon your request, of deals the state entered into and those that weren't bad for the tax payer haven't finished yet, (broadband).
If you think no FG politician/minister ever plays a role in who gets state contracts you don't know how things work and please tell the chaps springing for dinners, paying Lowry and giving out jobs for after politics that they are being had :)
    ...dude.

FG hard core followers think the party is infallible , nothing is ever wrong no how blatant the corruption,
Dinny needs $5bn in the next year just to keep level, tissue paper billionaire, bankrolled by the Irish state

My opinion from the beginning was that handling the virus was the easy bit. Anyone of the parties would have done it more or less the same and gotten the same bounce.
I think the difficult bit was always going to be managing our way out of it and that is when the old FG will re-emerge and they'll fall back. 59 seats is wildly optimistic in September.

Wow that was your opinion from the beginning!!

Well how coincidental that is after people are suddenly questioning the exit strategy been too slow in the last week or so.

But of course you seen this from day one.

    Course you did:)

I just watched a Primetime segment on the tourism industry and the lack of clarity for them and lack of action. That's exactly what I foreseen, TD's like yer man O'Donovan (get rid, he will lose you votes by the parish) bull****ting will just annoy and exasperate.
