307, north county Dublin, 7kwp, 4 south east, 3 north west. Down from 495 for September

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,295 ✭✭✭ionapaul

    For October:

363kWh generated - 6.72kW system facing ESE in South Dublin.

377kWh consumed; first month since installation on March 7 that monthly consumption is higher than generation! Gotta get used to it for the next four months I guess.

In October, self-used 40.78% of electricity generated, and fed in the other 215kWh (no battery). With SSE, so later this month should be getting our 2nd FIT credit, will be a few hundred quid after the summer.

Second month on Pinergy - Imported 258 @ 5c / Exported 110 @ 28c - Profit €17.90 (Deemed Export would have been about €12). So about €7 of a bill after Standing Charges

So staying on DN and on Deemed Export would have cost at least €40 inc the Standing Charges given the imports, so a saving of at least €33

6.84kWp south facing, Roscommon. 4.8kw battery.

    Oct 2023

    400kWh generation

    Total consumption 623kWh.

82.6kWh to Eddi ( that's another 8l of oil saved)

    76 kWh exported

    251kWh imported (no day/night meter)

    32kWh generated best day (1st)

    2.0kWh generated worst day (18th & 23rd)

4.86 kWp system, 2.835kWp south, 2.025kWp west, located in Dublin. No battery or Eddi.

257.13kWh produced in October, 93.06kWh consumed, 164.07kWh exported, 155.94kWh imported, total consumption 249kWh.

Marked reduction on September (which yielded nearly 400kWh) which was my first month with solar, but not surprising given the change in weather and that the western face gets a lot less sun coming into winter.

    South Roscommon, 8.16Kwp, facing 210° at 35°, 9.6kWh battery

Total generation 456.68kWh (prediction at 445.9kWh, last year 486.5kWh)

    Consumed 498.59kWh (91% self use).

    Energy from Grid 112kWh

    Energy to Grid 40kWh

    To the Eddi 58.2kWh

To the Zappi 119Wh (equivalent to approx. 780km free driving)

    To the Battery 177.07kWh

    From the Battery 199.77kWh

    Best day 1st with 36kWh

    Worst day 18th with 0.9kWh

Energy exported would have generated €9.60 at Energia FIT rate if on a smart meter, we are D/N.

    Oct stats: Meh 😊

From this point on, I try to not even check the stats. Then I can get excited again from mid March when it starts to take off in leaps and bounds

6.5Kwp in South Dublin City (split 2.3kwp East / 4.2Kwp West)

I did add 3 panels April just gone, bringing me from 5.3Kwp->6.5Kwp, so the fact that I only got 4% more than last October, gives you an indication of how good Oct'22 was.

T'was a decent enough month to be fair, but I'll miss the double digit hauls until end of Feb next.

October 2023: 414kwh generated, the cooler temps help the efficiency but inline with the expected fall off.

Starting to charge\heat everything now on night rate to get as much export credit when lucky to get some surplus! 🌞

You got some shading going on or something? 251Kwh Gen / 376 Kwh pred = 66% of predicted.

Generally PVGIS is pessimistic by a few percent, meaning your more likely to beat it than not, but usually most people will be in about the prediction. With you being > 30% off, I'd probably look further into that.

    Hey,

Yes unfortunately the drop is as a result of pretty heavy shading on my south panels which is really limiting production, West has a small bit of shading but the panels impacts on the west string have optimizers to limit the impact.

To be fair I knew this was going to be an issue prior to install. Living on the north side of a wooded hill is not exactly ideal but was hoping I would have gotten until Nov before it hit this hard :-/

Coilte had a license to cut the trees on the hill above me this year but recently saw that this license appears to have been pushed out and is now likely to be done in 2025 Instead :-/

I know this will be a long winter, but optimistic that from March onwards should make up for it and based on my calculations prior to deciding to go for solar, and from what I seen since they were installed at the end of June this year, I still think I should hit my overall targets for a full year cycle....will see come June 2024 :)

First time posting in this forum. Thinking of getting panels but have no idea about what I should consider for my house.

Our estimated usage for 2022 was 4,270 kWh if I'm reading the bill correctly.

It's an old council house, NW facing.

One company I came across is €8.5k for the following:

    • High power output of 4.0 – 4.2kWp
    • High-end 10-panel system
    • Includes Inverter
    • 5kWh Battery
    • Solar Generation: ~3,600kWh

Is that a good deal? Should I get a battery? Their next package up is nearly twice the cost and I don't think I can fit the number of panels they're offering.

Any advise of what not to fall for when talking to these companies would be appreciated as I know they're trying to sell as much as they can and I can't really afford to buy more than I require.

This is interesting as my set up is almost identical to yours, as are my results. I get a bit of shading in late afternoon. This gives me confidence that my system is performing reasonably well.

I have a 6.6 kWp system in Wicklow with a E/W split. I generated 405 kWh in September.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,074 ✭✭✭championc

That was one of the main reasons for starting this thread. Validation of your results is so important. I can bet that many people out there have malfunctioning systems, dead strings, and have no idea.

Sounds like you also have proof that optimizers are unnecessary. The bypass diodes must be doing their job !!!

Are the savings deemed earnings subject to tax? Did I read something about €200 tax free. What happens when you go over that amount

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,890 ✭✭✭con747

Tax exemption is being raised to €400 per qualifying person named on the account in January.

    November

    268kwh generated

    60kwh into DHW (Eddi)

Rest of surplus 96kwh exported (0.20 CEG)

It'd be nice if this high pressure lingers a bit longer, glorious weather.

6.5Kwp in South Dublin split 2.3Kwp East, and 4.2Kwp West (exactly 90-270)

Didn't even make PVGIS here......sigh, and only a small increase over this time last year despite adding 3x panels during the year, which brought me from 5.3Kwp -> 6.5Kwp (23% extra panels) Pretty lousey month for solar.
