Yeah we could learn a lot from Stalin alright, with "how to be a paranoid psychopathic mass murderer" up there at the top of the list.

Ah, that would make a lot more sense. :D But I've had discussions with people who genuinely hold not dissimilar views, so I'll plead Poe's Law.

For confirmation, check out some of his contributions to the Relaxation of Restrictions thread in the Coronavirus subforum:
Yeah, I am losing my mind with these people when I see them in my estate. They are taking advantage of the fact that we have a substantial green area. I know that they are outsiders from beyond the 2km radius who have no business here. You had better get used to concerned citizens like me hollering from their windows if you are beyond your permitted area. I usually say "you're not from around here" and "excuse me, what's your eircode" and if no response I will remind them of the rules laid down by experts.

Michael Moore presents Planet of the Humans, a documentary that dares to say what no one else will this Earth Day — that we are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America. This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It's too little, too late.

Removed from the debate is the only thing that MIGHT save us: getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars?

No amount of batteries are going to save us, warns director Jeff Gibbs (lifelong environmentalist and co-producer of “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Bowling for Columbine"). This urgent, must-see movie, a full-frontal assault on our sacred cows, is guaranteed to generate anger, debate, and, hopefully, a willingness to see our survival in a new way—before it’s too late.

Featuring: Al Gore, Bill McKibben, Richard Branson, Robert F Kennedy Jr., Michael Bloomberg, Van Jones, Vinod Khosla, Koch Brothers, Vandana Shiva, General Motors, 350.org, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sierra Club, the Union of Concerned Scientists, Nature Conservancy, Elon Musk, Tesla.

Richard Branson will allegedly spend $3 billion to fight global warming! Then Branson, sitting next to @AlGore, is asked “Is Al Gore a prophet?” Branson replies “How do you spell “prophet”"? [Profit!!!] Everyone laughs! (sequence at 9 minutes and 30 seconds in)

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

same branson that needs tax funded bailouts so that he can stay a billionaire with fine ideals?

must be ****in nice being as special as that

environmental protection has to be accelerated, but the how, and who directs it and why, are vital questions

and anyone who tries to shout down any questions deserves none of your attention thereafter

and thats the greta spearheaded campaign approach

    no thanks

It appears that after a brief lacuna to realign the ray-gun,Greta and her team are back !

This chapter sees a subtle but interesting shimmy from the original single barrell weapon.

The BBC News app was reporting on the relaunch earlier, but the piece has somehow slipped off their main feed....however it is on the Newsround portal.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52484801

It appears that Greta's focus is now to ensure that the original Climate Change gig is seamlessly merged with a broad Childrens Rights campaign, presumably to generate further opportunities for publicity and perhaps funding ?
"Like the climate crisis, the coronavirus pandemic is a child rights crisis. It will affect all children, now and in the long term, but vulnerable groups will be impacted the most," Thunberg said in a statement.

It appears that Ms Thunberg won $US 100,000,presumably in a competition of some sort run by this NGO.... https://humanact.org/about/team has decided to donate this money to UNICEF,a gesture now matched by the Competition Organizers,so UNICEF is now $200,000 to the good.

With UNICEF's 2018 Income reaching $6.7 Billion, and it's need to cater for an ever broadening range of issues, every donation obviously helps.

    https://www.unicef.org/reports/compendium-of-resource-partner-contributions-2018

The Competion Organizers themselves appear to have considerable synergies with the goals of UNICEF,so it looks like a funding success at minimum ?

Still,I can see the need for a renewed focus here,as the Covid issue had somewhat lessened the stridency of Ms Thunberg's single-track campaign.

All that remains now,is for the removal of the more restrictive "Lockdowns",which might allow for some further inventive inniatives to really get the campaigning going again ?

These people have their old lefty agenda they are simply trying to marry into the more popular environment movement.

    As Greta said:
After all, the climate crisis is not just about the environment.
    ...
Colonial, racist, and patriarchal systems of oppression have created and fueled it.
We need to dismantle them all.

Thats about the Top & Bottom of it alright.

Today's Thunberg Tidbit, interestingly sees Ms Thunberg join forces with 15 other children to "push forward" a legal complaint at the United Nations, against Countries they say,are endangering Childrens wellbeing.

    https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/may/05/greta-thunberg-and-childrens-group-hit-back-at-attempt-to-throw-out-climate-case

With the United Nations appearing almost in thrall to Ms Thunberg in relation to any opinion she puts forward,it may well be simply a Consciousness Raising stunt,at a time when it's badly needed ?

On the one hand it should be encouraging that "Children" are managing to display such an awareness of their entitlements, but it could easily also be about a bit of empire building on the part of somne savvy adults ?
Although 140 countries, excluding the US, have ratified the UN convention on the rights of the child, only 46 governments have adopted a protocol that allows for this kind of legal action. Of those, the five biggest greenhouse gas emitters – Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany and Turkey – are targeted in the lawsuit, which has been brought by the children with the backing of the green campaigning group Earthjustice and the international law firm Hausfeld.

There has been no decision yet from the UN committee on whether to hear the legal complaint.

In this case the "Children" appear to have palled up with some fairly well resourced entities....

    https://earthjustice.org/about

One of those peculiarly American entities...the Non-Profit organization....

Although....their 2019 accounts show an income of c.$US 111,000,000 and outgoings of c.$85,000,000 and a reported "Change in Net Assets" of c.$25,500,000

It may not be profit, but it's a few bob left over just in case.

The other 'backer' is a substantial Law Firm with admirable Green credentials too....

    https://www.hausfeld.com/our-people/all

    https://www.hausfeld.com/news-press/three-big-emitting-countries-fail-to-protect-children-from-direct-imminent-and-irreversible-climate-risks
The petitioners are between the ages of 8 and 17 and come from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Nigeria, South Africa, Sweden, Tunisia and the United States. They include Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who sparked the global youth climate movement in 2018, and Alexandria Villaseñor, who was inspired by Greta and co-founded the U.S. Youth Climate Strike
    .

So there we have it for today.....let's hope there's a tomorrow :(

Very much on the hardcore bat flu bandwagon too and in the process of interlocking it with climate change. A faster route to the heavily restrictive digital communist nanny state they want to impose on the little people.

His €3billion to fight Global warming? He took the €3billion from the Virgin Group, and gave it to Virgin Airlines to fund fuel efficiency.

Basically, he took the money from his front pocket, put it in his back pocket and hoped by putting it there, a little bit more money would appear in his front pocket.

Btw guys (the vast majority who believe the bulletproof scientific consensus) step it up. The coronavirus crisis is not an excuse to slack off and stop raising awareness about the climate change emergency. I am starting to see cobwebs on all the climate change threads.

Wise move by CNN. Great to see Greta on such a prestigious network. Research suggests the bats in China wouldn’t have gotten sick if it wasn’t for man made climate change. As a side note we should lock in the best parts of the lockdown as part of the war on climate change, travel restrictions reduce our carbon footprint guys.

Fingers crossed that one outcome of this whole covid thing is people respect what scientists are saying and recognizing that bullsh*tting about how prepared you are when you aren't really just doesn't cut it.

I love it.....does'nt leave CNN with much wriggle wroom to rehabilitate the rest of the "Former" Expert Panel...or is it a panel of "Former" experts, with a special guest appearance by Greta Thunberg....it's like watching an episode of Cade's County..or Dallas

One of the most apparent things to come out of CV-19 is the vast amount of stuff being said by 'Scientists' Worldwide, not all of which concurs with themselves...

    https://www.buzzfeed.com/alexwickham/10-days-that-changed-britains-coronavirus-approach
There was no consensus. Several of the scientists frantically argued that the UK must immediately introduce social distancing to halt the spread of the virus. Some pleaded with the government to change tack or face dire consequences.

But others continued to believe that introducing social distancing now would be unsustainable for a long period and would lead to a more disastrous second wave of infection.

The dayslong debate between the experts themselves and with the government was “heated” and “extremely difficult”, multiple sources familiar with the discussions told BuzzFeed News. Vallance admitted as much at a health select committee hearing this week: “If you think SAGE is a cosy consensus of agreeing, you're very wrong indeed”.

And that's only in England......the reality is,Scientific bickering is to be found....well,wherever there are Scientists

Would you prefer the Fox News approach of believing everything Trump says?
It's time people realized just because you say something isn't real that doesn't necessarily mean that that is the case.

Positive action to mitigate human damaging of the environment is needed in the same way positive action to mitigate the dangers of Covid 19 were (and are) needed.
