Hi. When is it meant to hit the west coast? Any high level guideline on the time.

Orange warning valid from 5am to 9pm in west

Important to put things in perspective.

Arpege 36 member ensemble is giving very little risk of wind gusts above 120km/hr penetrating any further than the immediate coast.

    pearpeu-38-48-0-35.png?12-14

Quite high probability of wind gusts exceeding 100km/hr nationally though.

    pearpeu-37-66-0-35.png?12-14

So apart from the odd outlier like the ICON, this has been well handled by MET and will be a high end yellowy orange widely and a solid orange at the coast.
The dates in these charts are Tuesday 14th and Wed 15th??

The problem is that if they go red there will be a countywide shutdown wherever they call it.

Then you will have businesses in say, Portumna, disrupted unnecessarily if the warning is only warranted in say Clifden.

Yeah I understand that, where I am in Kerry will probably get battered but east Kerry will probably be okay. In the same breath when it comes to people's lives, better safe than sorry in my opinion

It doesn't make a difference, they both encompass the event. It is the maximum forecast wind gust from time 0 to the forecast time....in this instance t48 and t66...bit confusing but no bothered editing as makes no difference!.

I have a Ruanair flight due to land at 13.00 on Monday.

Looking at Ventusky, I am seeing gusts into the region of 60-70 MPH for that time around the Airport.

I looks like serious sick bag territory or delay/cancellation.. Really not looking forward to this trip at all... :-(

Willfully not staying updated to hear of any changes to a well publicised warning is just brain-dead.

Any person who has to travel tomorrow and doesn't check radio, TV or internet updates before leaving the bouse is looking for trouble.

Unless your power goes and mobile signal goes down then you have no excuse in these types of conditions.

Many people don't check media and that's not a crime in itself. Might be hard for the media bubble junkies like us on boards to understand, but it is a fact.

Acording to their tweet there, theres a Red level warning at sea and in coastal areas. (does that not mean some counties must be red level by their coastline or do you have to be in the sea to fall under that red warning on both counts?

Interestingly Knock and Dublin TAFs both predicting the same peak wind 55kt gusts (up to 17Z tomorrow, event will persist longer).
    Knock between 1100-1300hrs
    Dublin between 1300-1500
Cork forecasting 60kt gusts between 0800-1000 (elevation >500ft ASL)

New Dublin & Cork TAFs out in a few minutes, Knock won't get a new one until 11 am because we can't even manage to forecast more than 2 airports at night in Ireland

I'm certain all flights operated by ATR42/72 aircraft will be cancelled for most of the day - Aer Lingus Regional schedule will go haywire

At Dublin specifically I would say it is likely there could be further delays and cancellations. Peak winds will be a direct crosswind for the main runway 10/28 and R16 has limited distance available.

    Let it be said now...

Deric Ó hArtagáin is an idiot for posting that map.

Of course, Met Éireann will be the ones to get the flack on the chin now with that going around.

Surely as a weather presenter he would only be dealing with Met Eireann +the data they give the tv stations?

    Its semantics
Its covering bases quite well though as regards avoiding the official red on land if possible
Kudos if its intentional as its a carefully clever use of the tools in the box

Deric is entitled to a differing opinion than MÉ - he is after all not affiliated with them but neither is he a meteorologist.

He did put up a very large capitalised caveat with the picture but I think in his specific position his responsibility to not post disinformation outweighs the expectation that sheeple should be expected to ready the bloody caption.

    Everyone loses.

At Dublin specifically I would say it is highly likely there will be further delays and cancellations especially to long haul. Peak winds will be a direct crosswind for the main runway 10/28 and A330 + cannot take off for the US from Runway 16. Too heavy.

Not sure what your on about there....Knock 2300 TAF is out now... we can manage a few more than 2 airports ;)

    Jasus you're right. Apologies.
No METARs after a certain time but still TAFs.
Done remotely from Shannon or Dublin presumably?

    MARINE WARNING

    STATUS RED - GALE WARNING
Southerly winds will reach storm force during Monday on all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish sea, with violent storm force winds expected at times on western coasts between Mizen Head and Malin Head.

red warning not exclusively out at sea so it appears. Clever way of avoiding issuing a full blown red alert.

well done met eireann, very crafty this time, all bases covered.

I could well be wrong. I've landed on 16 several times on board, but have never seen them take off on it. Only 2000m/6500ft available.

East coast maybe, as wouldn't be full? West coast surely not.
