Lot of conspiracy theories doing the rounds.
I have nothing but height of praise for what has been achieved by the protests. But now it is time to stand down. Its clear that the gates can be blocked again quickly if mii are not genuine and mess us around. When so many shades of farm leadership agreed last sunday then we need to accept too. We can build on this offer . And if we dont accept I do feel we are in danger of causing damage to our product image as well markets.

I feel that they don't open up markets that aren't already there . And I think they pass too much of a burden on the farmer that he doesn't get paid for where as its a great sell for the supermakets and processors to add value going out the gate .

It must be 5 years since we had the chinese here on the farm, you can't put a gun to their head to come back.
That time Bord bia drove them around Ireland to different farms and factories, I remember being amused that they went away from our place thinking every sheep farmer tagged their lambs at birth. Why would I disiilusion them :D
Passing QA isn't difficult. A lot of whingeing going on about it that it doesn't deserve
If they didn't buy after seeing your farm what in the name of god else were they looking for ?Where else would they get such standards ?
That's what I mean about BB not being great .
If we left the dept of ag to look after the medicine recording and tagging instead of letting BB do it for them with their inspections and gave half Bord Bia's funding to a marketing company followed by the other half of the money when new markets started  bearing fruit for us we could see things moving in a better direction

I would have said yes Sunday and Monday but now my attitude has hardened. Processor must make the first move on price now. We saw after the last blockade that after talks processor's tried to drop prices straight away. Now I think all processor's must announce a minimum price from now to Christmas.

Lads think if they walk away now it all for nothing especially if processors start a ting the bollax again. If lads leave the gates there's no going back until next year. It will again take 3-4 weeks to bring it to a head. It s processor problem now any time they want to end it they can.

I wonder is there much more of this happening, shocking to say the least. Saying it was human error...;)

OH was talking to a two finishers that he knows. Their panic is over as their cattle are heading North for slaughter. Bord Bia have approved more factories in the North to slaughter cattle. Beef Plan have shot themselves in the foot.

I'd agree too but BB are too involved with MII. Unless the government took charge and organised it.....oh wait...they are in the same bed as BB and MII.

You wouldn't get your farm QA as quick to sell would you ?
Healy is a director of Bord Bia and he let this happen while he is leading the IFA thats supposed to trying to get a better deal for beef farmers . He is a mighty man to multi task isn't he ?
Whats involved in getting a factory passed for QA I wonder ?

No BP. Our government have stabbed us in the back by letting this happen to further drive the boot into our throats. They are not loyal to the people they are only loyal to who will fund their campaign trails next May. Disgraceful.

FG would want to find a magician to run their campaigns next year if they are to get many rural votes

Wrangler stated previously that all EU factories had the right to apply for Bord Bia certification. I assume that Northern factories are Red Tractor approved so they already have QMS in place. It wouldn't take long for BB auditors to check these systems.

You could say the same about the farmers at the gates.
You'd have to wonder about their motives

You cannot pick and choose the rules to suit your own agenda. As EU members we are obliged to allow the free movement of trade etc. Irish cattle have always been slaughtered in the North now they have just upped the numbers to suit the conditions.

It's a once off cost and along with that it not as big as you assume. First off you would not pay vat rebate on mart cattle so depending on you system it's half to 2/3's if the vat. A farmers selling 10 cattle/week and buying the same in the mart would cost about 20 euro/head assuming a 400 price difference between purchase and slaughter price or 200 euro on a weeks cattle
For five weeks it's a thousand but after that your vat rebate would arrive regularery. Mostly vat is reclaimable monthly
Talking about the factories, they have quite a large amount of cash tied up by paying vat out before being able to claim it back.
Vat is bimonthly, so it would mean farmers waiting a few weeks longer for their money if it didn't come through the factories. I'd say the factories would be only too happy to make that concession if it was asked for...

This is about the tenth tone they were supposed to have shot themselves in the foot. But they are still standing.

Do you really think that’s realistic with brexit deadline 6 weeks away?

The factories must be taking a good hit by this stage but are minimising losses by laying off staff. Their tactics are simple enough though, just wait till the various farming interests tear each other apart.

Of course they can say a price and kill five or ten thousand cattle per week that doesn't lose money, maybe great britain or home market....... but no one could be expected to say what they're doing through October.
So it's Irish Beef industry RIP

There's nothing the government can do.
It'll take its course now between the protesters and the factories

If it's not Brexit it's another excuse. Mercour was only signed in July will not come into effect for 2-3 years I had a factory agent blaming it for the price fall. FFS if a bird farted methane from picking at cow sh!the the processor's would use it as an excuse to drop beef prices

The man who finishes 500 or a thousand a year is only a hairbreath from the guy who finishes 50 , in the eyes of the factory they are both going to be squeezed out, a few years is the difference.

The two biggest finishers in my area have left finishing. Between them probably 3000 head a year as little as two years ago. Both gone dairying. One massive expansion the other a new entrant. Both are now for doubling down on protest.
