Beef strike II what's a fair base price for the Autumn for R=3= steers?

Look, the lads on the line don't trust the factories. That is a big factor. The factory reps were never in the room with the farm reps. Remember in NI they got Martin McGuinness and Ian Paisley in one room at the end of talks.
The picket doesn't trust that the base price will not be dropped. They want a base price of €3.8./3.75.

There'll be some twist, the rumours about larry controlling the Offal will be tested now that an independent factory has done a solo run. An independent gave in first in 2000 a fortnight before the rest

Any word from the big Three

I wouldn't put Liffey down as an independent. Mallon is well able to take care of himself. That's if rumours are true, there must be a lot of posturing behind the scenes.

This deal is looks like a result for farmers , obviously the processors are not going to raise quotes in unison because of competition authority but it does show the power of farmers to flex their muscles in a wildcat format and if the processors don't play ball then the next strike could be terminal for some of them if targeted properly.

Setting up a new beef strike thread with a new poll attached. What is a fair base price €/kg for R=3= steer weighing 280-425kg DW from now to the 16th December?

    Old thread is here https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2058001013

Mod note; Remember this thread will be strictly moderated. That means uncivil posters will be taking a 24hr break, then cards will be issued.

Messing around with the factories isn't going to achieve anything. Farmers need to setup a national coop where shares are tied to active farmers only.

Just posting this here in the chit chat thread if one of the mods could move it to the new strike thread when it opens thanks

Meat industry Ireland on the radio just now talking about how depressed the beef market is and that's why base price is so low
YET supermarkets are now out of Irish beef pretty much so there was no glut
Yet supermarkets prices are a multiple of farm gate price

The absolute untruths being told by factories seems obvious to me

Time to withdraw the blockades. Allow lads to kill cattle. Regroupe, and return to the factory gates in the spring if the factorys are acting the maggot again.

€3.80 base should be bottom line for heifers.

Don't know lads. If 3.75 was being offered for next 6 weeks or do we should have taken it. Lucky that the weather has improved this week or all would be housed here.
The weanling / store producer will not lose much holding them till early spring if he has to. But finishers will have to move. Will this lead to major agro between ourselves.
We have not done too bad with bonuses and if 3.75 available. Take it and assess in spring.
Also it's time to stop acting the bolix with sheep farmers. Let them in with their lambs. That's a different battle and nothing to do with beef. If sheep farmers were stopping beef men we would be pissed off as well

Your right in all you said, especially about the sheep farmers it’s not right to drag them into this when they have nothing to do with this, they’ve had a enough hardship through the years

The factories and their greed brought this about if it happens. They p=÷##×@d on the IFA when the organisation was on its knees (I am not an IFA head). They are in the process of getting rid of agents when dealing with farmers. They cut the s$#/e out of beef to the farmer and kept rubbing salt into the wound by aggressively going for 3.00 per kg while they made it into the top 30 rich list in Ireland consistently.
The old smart factory boss threw a few crumbs to the agents, the IFA and the farmer but these new breed got very greedy.
As I said before by their actions they cultivated a first yellow vest movement in this country which is impossible to stop. But more importantly the angry farmer is now educated in causing maximum disruption within the confines of the law.

People haven't needed the blockade to know creed is useless.anyone else hear the dawn factory in rathdowney is going to close down permanently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭Keep Sluicing

If one thing has come of this blockade, its the template for further protests.

The Beef Plan organised themselves after the first protest so that they couldn't get fined like the IFA all those years ago. Officially staying away while having their individual farmers at the gates.

The IFA are needed to be the organization at the negotiations, and money behind them to back individual farmers if they are are singled out by the factorys for a court appearance.

There needs to be a bit more thought on the timing of future protests, and the demands to end protests. Individual farmers need to still be singing off the same hymn sheet (while being "individual") in the event of future blockades.

It seems a fair enough accessment if you ask me. Its a bit unfair to take one line out of a thousand word statement. Like what will happen if a small minority keep proteesting in spite of all farm orgs agreeing to the deal.

The last 3 lines is wat he should be saying to himself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,932 ✭✭✭jaymla627

If that went through official channels and was signed off on by who ever pulls the strings in Fine Gael god help us all, if he went rouge and done it off his own bat he has confirmed he is as dimwitted as we expected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,808 ✭✭✭✭Water John

It wasn't the farm orgs that forced the talks. Why would anyone think it's their right to sign off on them. Joe Healy et al would have no credibility with those on the protest line.
Some items in the proposals are good and need to be followed through in the medium term. The base price however is a stumbling block. Firstly, that it isn't dropped further and secondly it needs to recover to €3.75/3.80.
No one believes the margin isn't there in the retail price.

His last few lines remind me of Gerry Collins looking straight into the camera and saying 'please don't burst the party'.

Well factories coming out and stating we are going to close down permanently won't help. People are educated enough that companies don't close down multi million euro making premises. Who do they think they are...God ?
