I think there's a big difference between amateur boxing and the UFC though. It's an entertainment business. I enjoyed Max's showboating the other night. Don't think there was anything malicious in it either.

    Yep..

And he was criticised for it and adored for it...

Probably because he did it again and again.

Holloway did it for 20 seconds of one fight. Given the context, I didn't find it particularly egregious and certainly not the example of behaviour to eradicate from the sport that I'd have chosen.

I am sure there are many more examples..

This one I decided to mention..saw it and thought I’d mention it. That’s all.

Loved seeing James Gallagher getting nailed aswell.
    That's something else though right.
I don't remember Gallagher showboating in the cage. His striking isn't good enough to pull it off.

But you don't see an issue with belittling/mocking an opponent who is clearly being dominated as an issue?

Max the other night wasn't happy with beating the lad up, he was rubbing in his dominance in a very disrespectful way....that is how I saw it...

I don't like the belittling/mocking of a fighter that's being smashed. But I think that not every single taunt qualifies either.

Kattar spent weeks belittling Max's boxing. Max was destroying him. I'm ok with Max referencing Kattar comments mid-destruction.
If it was Ortega, or another grappler who never said anything about his boxing. It wouldn't be ok. Context matters imo.

    Eg
Diaz - Flipping off the opponent (who is usually smashing Diaz for a round or two) I'm ok with. He's not doing it to to a helpless opponent.

Conor hands behind the back. I was ok with. It was in response to Eddie's talking about how he is too small, and how he has answers for his tricks etc.

Opponent spends 25 mins throwing and landing a record number of strikes on Kattar and reminds him of his words while doing so.

    I don't see the issue.

    This. Kattar asked for it.

Yeah, he pretended to take a selfie with his opponent whilst he was beating him up!
I've no problem with that kinda stuff really. It's all part of the game. The audience can choose themselves whether they find it amusing or distasteful.

The MVP thing I actually do have a problem with.
He's fighting bums that aren't near pro level. This are local fighters taking a L for a few quid a the hope of a lucky punch. MVP talking selfies is mocking a bigger mockery of the already embarrassing mactchmaking.
Kattar is a top fighter, not a bum wheel out for Max to destroy.

I agree. Context, naturally plays a part..

Just my overall general view is that I really hate to see fighters who are clearly dominating and hurting an opponent to be also mocking/belittling whist doing it..

Showboating, as in messing or verbally taunting etc..they should be told to give it the fook over, and fight!!!

He acted the absolute bollix before he got KO'd

Only once during a fight. Against Ernie Tyrell. And he was widely criticised for it.

He’s acted the bollox when he’s won, post fight, pre fight, in the media.
The conversation was about showboating during the fight while dominating.
I don’t remember any from that fight. He was too busy losing.
He’s only really dominating when he’s on the ground rather than striking.

If someone tells you prefight that you skills are low compared to theirs, then its human nature to explain they are wrong after/when you give them a beating. This is what Max was doing, and what a lot of the examples show.

Then you have the likes of MVP or Prince Naseem who feel everyone can be mocked, even if their opponent has stayed silent prefight, its part of their game.

Fighters in the second category normally tone down their behaviour after their first good beating or disappear, and are generally not as popular fans as most want to see the cocky fighter beaten.

    Its always been like this.

James Gallaher wasn't showboating. He was just being a prick.

Haha.. True. I don't think many would have a problem with his opponent goading him afterwards either. Thoroughly deserved.

    khabib's cousin up next!

Think I read somewhere this was on the conor card originally but they pulled it to avoid what could be mayhem.
Conor arrived on monday so khabib there now.

no doubt they'll be kept well apart

That kick looks spring loaded its so quick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

Wonder what Conner will say about that... it will
    be interesting

Nurmagomadov looked like a smaller, faster, weaker version of Khabib. His style was so similar. Even the way he checked a kick was the same. Definitely a prospect.

    If Chimaev is Khabig.
Does that mean Umar is Khalittle

I need to see that Knee again sounded flush ?

    The chin on Mason though
must be awful disheartening for davis

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,411 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

McKee cut after going 0-2 and Jones in an absolute war on his debut against a relative nobody. Kind of gives you an idea of where exactly Cage Warrior is at in terms of level.

Cracking back and forth fight there though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,411 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Jones beaten. Hard to complain about that. Could have gone either way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,884 ✭✭✭SlowBlowin

How do you score that ?

Mason was so aggressive - and that Chin (must be related to justin gaethje)
