    Main event was very close.
    I had Santos 2 up, Jones 3 and 4.
    Last one was very tight.

Have to imagine if his knee hadn’t of given out we would have a new champion now.

Jones hasn’t been impressive in a long time in my opinion. Juice based.... maybe.

I thought Holly was looking ok till she threw that half oblique kick and then changed her mind and left herself wide open. A Cyborg rematch or a Valentina fight look the only people that have any chance against Amanda.

Yeah its dependent on the ref getting their in time, in this case he was on the other side of the cage. Cant really blame the fighter in that case, because they are all fired up and don't really know if the other fighter is KO'd or not. Unless they bring in a counting system like boxing, which has its own problems because fighters can end up taken even more damage after they survive the count.
In some cases yeah it's definitely a fired up fighter or the fighter doesn't know the other guy is knocked out. I understand the mentality of "keep hitting until the ref stops it" is drilled into fighters mma fighters from the start but there have been fights before where fighters have recognised their opponent is out and they stop. There was no doubt at all that Askren was out, the way his body flopped to the ground (which Jorge mocked afterwards so he knew), the only reason he punched him after that is because he wanted to and the ref was on the otherside so couldn't get there in time to prevent it.

Jones looked a bit fat (for an MMA fighter).

You're telling me he didn't know he was out? He was stiff as a board, arm fencing before he even hit the mat. Professional fighters generally won't lie there on their back with their face uncovered in a fight if they are awake.

    Delighted for Askren!

Most satisfying KO I've seen in a long time. Lovely that Askren will be associated with probably the most iconic KO in the history of the sport now.

That looked like an early stoppage in the Nunes Holm fight. Holly still had her hands up, pushing Nunes away. I still think Nunes would've won mind, maybe within another couple of punches and I'll have to watch it again but seemed early for a title fight.

Also Masvidal is some scrote. Askern is too but no need for that post fight with the guy still out.

thought the stoppage was fine, hollys knee buckled when she was trying to get up after it was stopped, and the ref had to tell her it was over also when the camera was on her corner after the fight, she was done and was gonna eat alot more clean punches from nunes imo was a good stoppage.

Holly stoppage was fine dropped on or her ass and followed up with a clean combo to the head. I'd be disappointed if it wasn't stopped there for her sake.

Trying to push her away from that position is intelligently defending. She was out of it.

Nearly sure Bethe had the same reaction to Holly head kicking her as well, just an instictive reaction.

I started warming to Ben lately so feel bad for him on that but my God I do love a flying knee KO on someone diving for a takedown. Nothing worse when it doesn't work and the guy ends up being ground humped for the rest of the round.

No problem with the Holm stoppage, she was done with that head kick.

As for Jones, he's annoying to watch. Huge talent with potential to finish every fight but it's like he's holding back.

The idea of a Jones fight always better than the reality. The defensive coaching just wont make him the ppv goat.

I really would like to see a rematch on this though however probaby a year out for santos.

Sanchez please consider retiring you mad bastard. He has taken so much damage over the years.

I enjoyed that final fight, always good to see someone put it up to Jones.. also really surprised to see such a lack of killer instinct from Jon when the guy infront of him was hobbling, maybe he was afraid of getting caught as Santos kept throwing such big punches whenever jones got too close.

Masvida was embarrassing, he got a lucky knockout and I hope Ben gets another chance to smother him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,782 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Delighted Askren got done, but would hate to think he was hurt even more due to a hating opponent wanting to do him “extra” harm..

Ah ok fair enough didn't see the knee buckle.

    Beautiful kick from Nunes.

Seems like with being the most tested man in the UFC now that he's kinda limited. Please, please, please let him fight clean against DC. I want nothing more than for DC to finish his career beating Jones.

It's hardly lucky when the first thing Ben does every single fight is go for a double leg takedown.

Cormier was beaten because Jones was simply superior both times. Next to nothing to do with clean or not clean..all to do with skill and talent.

    Superior because of steroids

Was Santos carrying that injury into the fight? I thought his physique looked very soft compared to his normal.fighting shape

Same, was wondering where the jacked looking Santos had gone.

I'm surprised at the number of people saying there is no one currently who could beat Nunes. Valentina is the obvious candidate. Their first fight was a clear victory for Nunes, but it was obvious that had it gone longer than 3 rounds she would have been in trouble. But to my mind Bullet definitely won their last fight. I have rewatched it several times since and I have seen nothing to change my mind. It was close, but it was clear. If I recall correctly, the large majority of media analysts watching also scored the fight for Bullet. While not exactly a robbery, nonetheless she was blessed to get that decision from the judges imho.

I am actually a big fan of Nunes, I love to watch her fight is she a definite contender for wmma goat. But I think Bullet can feel pretty aggrieved that that belt is not on her shoulder.

The media was pretty much split down the middle. But since then Valentina has moved to 125lbs. That's not in her favour in a rematch. Especially when Nunes took a trip to 145 in the interim.

Yeah that and all the steroid sandwiches. Both losses are scrapped in my mind because Jones cheated. Simple as that. If he does beat DC clean at some stage in the future then fair enough.

He only popped for one of them. Or are you writing off everything prior too?

I'm not saying he was clean when he didn't pop. I'm just wondering where do we draw the line. Or does it even matter with cheaters?

Yeah i like the fact that a boring takedown machine like Askren go KO'd in that way but the way Masvidal was going on after it was poor form. Not good.

Really after calling him a Street urchant and the lowest in society in reference to coming from the street.

Ben got what he deserved probably not enough.

The benefits of taking steroids have been shown to last for over 10 years after last taking them, so he will never be clean for the rest of his career

I find it weird that people can act as classless as possible before a fight and people call it "Promotion" but if someone goads someone post-fight it's a no-no.

It's still two lads fighting in a cage. You can't expect everyone to act like it's the old Japanese Samurai days

    Agreed.

Nothing worse than hearing two "enemy's" talk afterwards about how they were hamming it up to sell a fight.

Live by the sword die by the sword. I very much enjoy Askren but he always had that coming to him after the way he's been talking about people.

Fair point. But I would still be very interested in seeing them clash again at 135. I think if anyone is going to give her a run for her money there, its Bullet.

Amanda Nunes has now finished every 135lb/145lb champion in UFC/Bellator history in the first round.

    Ronda Rousey - TKO, RD 1 - 0:48
    Germaine de Randamie - TKO, RD 1 - 3:56
    Cris Cyborg - KO, RD 1 - 0:51
    Julia Budd - TKO, RD 1- 0:14
    Miesha Tate - SUB, RD 1 - 3:16
    Holly Holm - TKO, RD 1 - 4:10

    #thegoat

And has beaten schevchenko twice (a fight I wouldn't mind seen again though)

I absolutely loathe Rogan and his calling everyone the goat but she absolutely deserves that title.

Nobody ever has that coming to them. You beat the man that's fine and it was a horrific ko but got my after a knocked out fighter is scummy behaviour. Going down in your knees slapping the floor beside him afterwards is every bit as bad and then mouthing off in the post fight interview just shows that you really are a POS.
I'd love that see him get his ass handed to him in.his next fight.

I like masvidal as a fighter but the more I listen to him the
    harder I find it

So you think mocking someone pre fight is the same as mocking them when you've not only won, but the guy is unconscious and possibly seriously injured?

Once you've won you don't need to do that when the guy has just suffered the equivalent of a head on car crash

That’s just it. Some MMA fans have no standards, and no common decency.

Masvidal’s actions post KO should not go unpunished. Jesus, the sport is tough and rough enough as it is, and a bloody hard sell to many, without fighters behaving like out and out thugs..

His actions do nothing but damage the credibility and sellability’ of the sport..

I'm not personally a fan of people saying whatever they want beforehand, and id prefer to see a lot less of it, but no matter what you are going to get in there with them and give them the opportunity to get some revenge if it bothered them, but dancihg around and shouting at a person knocked out on the ground is just back alley thuggery

Didn't see the fight but seen a lot of people and journalist on Twitter had Santos winning 1, 2 and 5.

Dana then says anyone judge who scored the fight for Santos is a moron and should never judge a fight again

    LOL no.
You'd swear he was the first prize fighter to do this, it's not uncommon, and it's not just MMA.
Askren was being his usual troll self, he had that coming.
