In recent days social media companies have been been boycotted by a number of major advertisers.
On Monday Ford joined a growing list of global brands that are pausing social media advertising during July.

This is the most important quote in that whole piece and any piece on 'hate accounts being banned'

large corporations are using their ad spend to decide what they do and don't want to see on large social media corporations platforms.

you don't have to like the bile these people spew, but the will of large corporations deciding what content is and is not OK should concern everyone.

Thats been the case for 100 years. Since the commercialisation of radio. No advertising revenue, no show.

    You sound like a communist.

Not wanting to have your ads appearing next to neo Nazis isnt exactly an unreasonable position to take.

Also I'm not sure how he thinks you could prevent a company from deciding that they're not willing to put ads on a platform...

Chu said she would like to promote discussions about race and gender during her tenure.

Things that was ok to say in the 60's, not ok to say in the 90's, and now ok to say again in the 20's.
The reds greens are leading the charge.

I thought it was the most important quote too, but for different reasons. I would guess that they're seeing a collapse in demand that no amount of advertising can fix as consumers are running out of money. They were probably planning to cut back on marketing anyway but opportunistically saw this situation giving them free good PR. If they're so ethical, why is it only for one month and, if it was December rather than July, would food, booze, toy, and electronic manufacturers withdraw their ads? Would they f*ck...

Part of the problem is that lots of people are called "Nazis" who aren't Nazis.
That silly "White Lives Matter" banner has been called both "racist" and "far-right". Before I saw the message on the banner I thought it might say something like "Black Lives Don't Matter" or something nasty like that, given that people were calling it "far-right" and "racist".
We're in a very distopian place when someone loses their job for getting a "White Lives Matter" banner flown.

It's the new far right doublethink where we must preserve freedom by destroying it.

It actually got killed a few months back when they quarantined it, yesterday was just the official removal, people stopped posting on it about 3 months back. It was a real cesspit, glad to see the back of it.

Then to top it off a female academic gets promoted after saying that "White Lives Don't Matter". It's sick.

You don't have to be goosestepping around in an SS uniform and jackboots to be a Nazi.

"White Lives Matter" is an obvious racist dogwhistle. To say otherwise is just to be obtuse. Or very, very naive.

And if you're talking about the British academic. She didn't say "White Lives Don't Matter". Those tweets have been shown to be fake, and the prominent people that re-tweeted them will face consequences.

Bizarrely and very worryingly, Reddits new rules allow for hate speech directed at majority groups.

Essentially, hate speech is ok, as long as its not focused on any minority groups.

I know of nial ring alright...only because his time in charge sounded like a piss up for him and his mates. I think something crazy was spent like 28k on beer....in 3 months...
A total of 366k on one year on entertainment.

I think Hazel Chu is a decent choice personally
