Reading this thread shows me how I've been taking our A rated house for granted. No heating since about April. Even if it is cooler today.

Our house is C1 . Top end of it nearly B3 but still c1
The weather hasnt been great but we haven't had heat never mind a fire on in 2 months
I think people are either exaggerating or have turned into ectotherms

It's not THAT cold especially when it's daylight for most of the time we are awake !

Do they? Maybe on the immediate east coast but I suspect for the vast majority of the country they're far more common in late autumn / winter. Very unusual to see hail at this time of year in Donegal yet November - Jan its pretty much a weekly occurrence

AccuWeather is miles off from Met Eireann, the fact they didn't show thunder's is just coincidental. If you want accuracy, steer clear.

Escaped the showers here in Castlebar today. Drove West-East today and return, lots of heavy showers in the midlands and east. Its actually one of the nicest nights ive seen in a while here: clear, calm, 10 degrees with lots of brightness in the sky approaching 11pm.

Temps dropping after a max of 13.2c today. Now 7.6c and geting lower.

Could threaten 1972 cold if this sustains and it looks in for another week at least

What does all that mean? Sorry to be so ignorant but my house was built just before all those ratings came in. I'm curious though as my house is south facing. full of glass and very warm.

But right now I'm in Spain since June 3rd and while ya, the weather is a million times better than at home, firstly it's by no means great, a lot of cloud and by no means phenomenal temps, and second, it's noisy as the apartments around me are rented and I hate noise and the close proximity of people. So while ye'll think I'm a snowflake and I probably am, right now I'm actually missing my gorgeous, quiet home and my pets in Ireland.

We're never happy are we? Just something to ponder if ye all wake to bad weather and I really hope ye don't.:)

Left the bedroom window open accidentally and it's freezing in here. Brilliant.

I'm not normally one to complain too much, but god this cold is really annoying me. Always cold, it's June ffs! To think this time last year the outlook was so much different.

agree totally and am rarely here as more depressing than anything the weather throws .... i even got accused of writing a "parody account" as I see the good in it all!. REALLY!
Heating on? no way. extra jersey, socks. walk faster

I am enjoying the changeable and challenging weather. Gets boring else... It is what it is. Oh someone way back appealed to Jesus. Others did that; asked Him face to face to change the weather.
" The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike, and the sun shines on the just and the unjust alike."

I enjoy deciding on my day depending on the weather. Look out of the door, smell the air,, yep, today I can go for a very early stroll.... later, yep I can do some gardening.. .nope, I will stay in and knit or clean or bake....

Just in from out and a lovely, quiet, slightly rosy dawning, but more gold than rose,, The early drizzle has cleared and the midges were still asleep. Bliss

Heard the cuckoo and always the lark in the quiet air. He starts before 3.30 am now

it will all last as long as it does. Enjoy! back when things have cheered up here!

I'm enjoying this cool weather, no sweating and dealing with clammy humidity we tend to get in summer.

Of all of Irish weather, it's the constant gusty wind that gets to me the most. You can't enjoy a relaxing walk, and it makes the rain much more of a problem. Last few days have been mainly calm, and lovely walking weather between the showers.

It is now going to start raining weds afternoon and not stop until Thursday afternoon
Impossible to plan anything in this country during “summer”

It is cold for June. Some people working the land need some dry sunny days in June. July is late. June is the month of max nutrition value and also the longest days of the year. Sunshine is important. However if it's not to be it must be accepted. Here's hoping a window arrives around midsummers day and this blocking gives way to a few real summer days.

wall to wall sunshine yesterday here in west Mayo,pleasant again today,strangely western coastal extremities are avoiding the worst of the misery.


you could always head to southern Iceland,its 22 degrees,
fascinating to think that with sunrise there at 4am and not setting to near midnight,they have huge potential to have very high temperatures with the amount of potential sunlight,providing the conditions were perfect,clear skies,wind direction etc

It must have really brightened up later on but when i went back out after it had completely clouded over here.

I remember last year when we were having our fine summer Iceland was having its wettest summer since 1914.
It all depends on where the blocking is of course, this summer so far our luck is out!

Beautiful morning here with clear skies overhead but with temps struggling thanks to an onshore NE wind. Convection bubbling up overland should steer clear thanks to the NE flow.

Iceland is far too far North for any potential high temperatures. Iceland is one of the few countries where it's actually colder than Ireland in summer!

Sure if you went to the North Pole you'd get 24 hours of daylight but that doesn't mean you'f get high temperatures, regardless of wind and conditions etc.

The only fair way for nature to balance this miserable summer out, is for July/Aug to be nothing but wall to wall days of 30c & no rain

22C with no cooling breezes off the Irish sea and I'd be more than happy
