There's more time in between the waves this year to control the flow of runners over the course and finish line (mostly the latter I think), so it might be as much as 10 minutes.

Ah ok, hadn't realised this. Thanks for the info :)

    Hey everyone,

just thought I'd drop by and wish you all the the very best of luck on Sunday.

I've been dipping in and out of the thread over the last few months and I can tell that you are all more than ready for this, a testament to the guidance from your mentors who have done an unbelievable job this year.

Over the next couple of days, nerves will undoubtedly take hold but I will tell you from experience as a 2018 graduate, standing at the start line on Sunday morning will feel like the most natural thing in the world. Drink it in, relish it and enjoy the ride! :)

Looking forward to meeting some of you in McGrattans afterwards!!

The expo opens tomorrow! Peak times are 2-4 on Saturday, so maybe attend outside of those hours if you can. The priority for Saturday is rest and minimising time on your feet, so don't spend all day traipsing around the RDS! Also, and particularly if you are travelling to Dublin on Saturday - plan ahead with your food! Don't leave yourself go hungry. Between travelling, the expo, new surroundings, and just general excitement it's easy to get carried away and forget to eat.

The only time I can make the expo is tomorrow lunchtime... I know it will be packed but to do it at any other time would mean a longish journey there and back.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I have to go to a wedding on Saturday! A family thing, and most of my extended family are not runners so "I have a marathon the next day" wasn't going to cut it as an excuse. Luckily the reception is taking place quite near where I live. I told them I couldn't stay for the whole thing so I'd just drop in, see everyone, and then leave before the meal. Hoping to be home by 6:30 for pre-race dinner followed by early bedtime. It means I have to dress up, do my hair and makeup etc., which is a pain, but at least it'll pass the time - I imagine a Saturday with no plans could feel very long and nerve-racking!

If you're a Dub - go tomorrow if you can. It will be busy as hell on Saturday. I'm combining parkrun tourism with a visit on Saturday morning.

    Nearly there now folks

Well done on making it this far without getting injured, sick and/or going crazy :pac:

I've found this week extremely long tbh but I'm probably better prepped for this marathon than any of my previous 5 so fingers crossed things go to plan on Sunday.

I just wanted to come on and wish you all the very best of luck of Sunday!

Thanks to your amazing mentors and your own dedication and commitment there can be no doubt you are all well prepared for this marathon, a lot better prepared than the majority of other runners who will be lining up alongside you on Sunday!! Be proud of how far you have come and what you have achieved already, training for a marathon is by far the hardest part, running it will be a pure joy compared to those 16-18-20 m long runs you slogged out a few weeks ago.

Everyone will give you different advice but my one piece of advice it to ENJOY IT! You will only run your 1st marathon one time. Don't let the time you do it in be the main thing. You have worked so hard for this, you've made sacrifices, your family and loved ones have most likely made sacrifices on your behalf. If it takes 3 hrs or 6 hrs, or if it took 30 mins longer than you planned, crossing the finish line is a moment to savour forever, crossing the finish line is what matters most - you are now one of an elite group who get to call themselves marathon runners! There will be many more marathons and many more opportunities to shoot for a time.

Have a brilliant day one and all #runthistown :)

I'll jump in here and join the ever growing list of well wishers! You are all on the brink of a really special day. Embrace it. You have trained so hard and are getting to the start line because you earned it.

Enjoy the tingle of excitement that comes as you are laying out your race gear.

Enjoy the sense of trepidation as you make your journey into the city on Sunday morning.

Enjoy the surge of emotion you will feel as the start gun goes off and you take the first of many strides.

Enjoy the crowds on the course.

Enjoy having the confidence to let others belt off as you know that taking it easy until Castleknock College is crucial.

Enjoy freewheeling downhill through the Phoenix Park.

Enjoy having the know how to speed up or slow down. Run to how you feel and don't feel pressured to stick to some arbitrary time target you have.

Enjoy gritting it out when the going gets really tough (which it will)

Enjoy the last mile when you realise for sure that you got this beast in your back pocket.

Enjoy the soft feeling of that famous blue carpet under your feet.

Enjoy smiling for the finish line camera.

Enjoy getting that medal around your neck.

Enjoy wanting to laugh, cry, burst with pride and scream with pain simultaneously!

    Enjoy trying to find McGrattans.

    Enjoy beer!

Now what was the message I was trying to get across? :pac:

I hope every one of you has a brilliant day Sunday. It’s some journey to get to the start line and the Boards group makes it all the more exciting as hopefully you’ll be meeting up before and after and you’ll have each other to rehash the day with when your family and friends have had enough!

Smile as much as you can, enjoy the signs and the noise ... and the quiet part running down the hill in the Phoenix after the madness of Castleknock. Wear your name on your bib and you’ll feel like a celebrity.

Mr Guappa, Huzzah, and ReeReeG, you’ve been outstanding mentors. Very well done.
