Cavan v Armagh game on BBC2 now.

I still find it strange watching Armagh play. My head still says Armagh great side.
Then I remember is not the early 2000's anymore.
Clarke is too good for this current side I think!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

This may have been covered already but I was watching it "live" so not reading the thread, but why is it going to a replay? I thought there were no replays any more unless it was a final?

Clarke is over rated, had a poor game today

Same fella could throw a strop and head to America at the drop of a hat too so he's never worth counting as that much use. He loves a coaxing and being made feel important.

Level after extra time. Surprise they don't have '45' shootouts or somesuch to settle matches on the day in this eventuality.

I was sure that was brought in. A few teams changed it to penalties off their own bat in the preseason competitions but not sure what the official line is now.

Double header of local derbies in Clones next Sunday...perfect!

It’s in for the qualifiers I think
But not provincial semis or finals

I know it might've only been Limerick but that's the best performance from our footballers in a while. Absolutely ruthless, and some of that kick-passing was outstanding. They tackled aggressively too. If we're within 5/6 points of Kerry, I'll be happy.

I hate ye (in that beautiful summer way). But I delighted in seeing that result and the commentary on the performance.

I fear it'll be a classic Munster final "false dawn". But I live in hope.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cork pulled it out of the bag. It's a funny one anyway. The MFC has seen cork beat Kerry and then Kerry beating them later on, it does not seem to have the same psychological effect of lifting the team, you need it to be knockout for that imo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,079 ✭✭✭C__MC

It's very hard to see cork win this game
They will play division 3 next season and Kerry steam rollered them in last two finals.
Worst more when we expect cork to come, they usually flop

Just imagine you have to put 25 euro on to win one on Dublin winning Leinster and they have 2 games to win yet . The whole provincial championship s have become stale and boring . Everybody knew before a ball was kicked that Kerry and Dublin we’re winning province easy . I don’t know what the answer is but i the provinces need changing . Look at the joy in Leitrim when they won division 4 but it was short lived when Roscommon hammered them come championship . Teams need to be playing against there own level and the sooner tiered championship s come in the better . Provinces have had there day . Agree or disagree ?

Very very unlikely . Cork have been rancid for a long time now . People getting carried away after they have beaten limerick just shows how far they have fallen

There's a thread or two about this already.

One about a different style of championship too.

Maybe, they can come good though, it's unlikely but I wouldn't be surprised if they won.

I wouldn't expect them to win a knock out game against them though

No bother . I’m just saying what the point of these provincial championships in Leinster and Munster . People are bored sick of them . Any gaa fan I know is anyway . Even Kerry and dub fans are as you will see by attendance drops over next few weeks .,

Will keep my fingers crossed that they can keep it competitive . I think if they have a chance with 15 to go that will be progress

Was it 2016 that Them'muns scraped an equalising point in a game that Cork mostly dominated and then the Shams got annihilated in the replay.

2015 - thrilling game first day in Killarney, Cork should've beaten us only for a penalty. Replay was in Killarney, woeful weather, Cork looked insipid and us not much better.

Cheers. Bit surprised they've gone for a penalty rather than free kick shootout; the latter would seem to be a more 'universal' skill for gaelic footballers. Be interesting to see a GAA penalty shoutout though; I'd imagine the conversion rate would be a bit lower than in soccer.

GAA goals would be a good bit smaller than soccer

Penalties were used twice in The FBD Connacht League

Leitrim v Mayo and Galway v Mayo.

Weren't they the games where the teams just decided between themselves it would be penalties? Mad that something like that can change the rules and the GAA will roll with it.

The Connacht council decided it a few months previous I believe.

I’d be shocked. Got a good start last year and still got pulverized scoring 2-4 in the process in 70 minutes and then got steamrolled by Tyrone. To keep it to single digits and be semi competitive in the second half would be major progress.

Its the best option I can think of though myself

45's are way too specialised a skill to decide a championship match really

The problem with free kicks is you'd have lads robbing a few yards, and there's always the potential they could be wrongly flagged over/wide

Penalties cut out any nonsense, are easy to implement and there's a precedent there from the most popular global sport

I really wouldn't want them to go down a next score wins type scenario either

It wouldn't be hard to enforce the positioning of the free if the referee was standing right beside the taker, telling each one ball must meet boot behind or on the line. I was thinking a 45 from the hands because there's a line handily marked on every pitch but maybe that's a bit too far out. Re flagging scores wrong, well maybe you could have a linesman behind the goal to help out withe umpires with a 'casting vote'. I think this format would avoid the extra pressure that penalties would put on goalies too.
