I know what you mean, but even if she falls short (she likely will), she deserves every compliment she's gotten from all quarters for her hard work, and for just being a good egg (organic, naturally).

Incredible result for a candidate who was unheard-of 10 days ago.
I'm not a Green voter but I really thought she came across well, would have much preferred her than Maria Walsh who looks good for a seat now.

    Completely agree with that.

Walsh may as well put a deposit down on a flat in Brussels at this stage.

I can understand people voting along party-lines, especially in European elections. But if this were a contest on candidates' grasp of policy, Walsh would be at the bottom of the list with Direct Democracy and (dare I say it?) Peter Casey.

If McHugh had been pushed as heavily in media and had the campaign as Walsh she would have got in. She just wasn't known enough until the debate. Also Fine Gael had an edge on Green in a big rural constituency.

Walsh is going to get in. This is the worst result possible. Basically crowning her a millionaire. **** sake.

She's appeared from nowhere. Who tf is voting for her? FFS. Her 90's kids video was cringe. She knows absolutely nothing about anything relevant to the EU and she just wants the money as her tv gigs dried up.

Less about party lines here in teyh Euros. She's on about the 10% the re-election polls had her at. She also has a very impressive running mate, who has probably addressed the transfer question. I would also guess there is no harm being a former Rose but her work on supporting mental health programmes is a winner as well along with being a reservist.

    What work??????

Ambassador for Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health

Extremely feeble performance from FF in this constituency. I'm actually miffed that Walsh will likely get a seat, complete empty vessel. As big a gobdaw Casey is, at least he's got his whacky opinions and he owns them. As Walter Sobchak famously opined: "Say what you want about the tenants of National Socialism dude, at least it's an ethos."

Saoirse McHugh would have made a fine MEP. Ming is there to balance out the nodding dog that Walsh will inevitably be.

What work does an ambassador do? She only joined in 2018 too...

    She's a fraud.

You seem to be more offended by people voting for her. Democracy is not everyone voting the way you want them to. I'm offering explanations of how she might be known and the Euros can be affected by a level of personality.

I actually feel sorry for Saoirse McHugh, RTE were making on her a celebrity and asking her her plans in the parliament based on their nonsense exit poll. It's not really fair, she seems a very nice person.

And she fell for the celebrity ****e hook line and sinker saying who the Greens should support in government
Shes had her 15 minutes of fame now back to making nettle soup

Those Fianna Fail transfers will push Casey ahead of Walsh surely.

More likely to vote for each other in large numbers. Even at 40% that's 12K-16K non-transferable plus a portion of McGuinness ones. If they've managed their transfers well it could be small enough. There will probably votes for everyone but Carthy did OK back in 2014 - nearly 8K but over 16K of Byrne's votes were non-transferable.

Casey applied to join FF and they rejected him, had they accepted him and ran him as a single candidate they'd have been a dead cert for a seat, however cronyism in Fianna Fail runs deep. Your typical FF voter would rather spoil his vote than transfer to Maria Walsh.

Walsh refused to rule out a run at the Dail as well. In fact Carty was a bit more up front about it.

Youth mental health would strike me as pretty important.

Casey is unpredictable so not exactly the most reliable for a party to have. Having the support of Fianna Fail doesn't necessarily make Casey more electable.
