    Looks good.

I like that it's set in Europe instead of space like people suspected. I think it's safe to say this based before the events of Infinity War as well.

Also, I don't think it really counts as a teaser trailer, it's just a full blown trailer.

Spider Man outside of New York just feels ... weird.

And with all the 'splosions action, I worry the low-stakes, neighbourhood aspect is going to be lost.

Plot: After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker goes on summer vacation to Europe with his friends. While abroad, he
teams up with Mysterio to battle the Elementals.

Its super weird we have confirmation that at least some of IW has been reversed somehow (Fury, SM not being dust).

Good trailer; looking forward to seeing the movie.

Mysterio look mystical to me - along the lines of Dr Strange. Maybe thats he gig though - making himself appear legit magical through tech.

Any idea on who the baddie (the elemental dude, not mysterio) is?

    international trailer is slightly different

Looks to be Hydro and Sandman?

There is a fire dude in there as well (unless its sandman on fire).

I'm going to go ahead and guess the plot is taking inspiration from The Incredibles, in that Mysterio is creating these monsters so as to be seen fighting them & presumed a hero. His schtick is deception and fakery after all...

Yeah this is exactly what I'm guessing too. The villains are called The Elementals who in the comics are Immortal beings. Thing is Marvel could be fooling everybody with Mysterio actually being a good guy and the villains being real

Hmmmm, I get that there would be no hint as to what happens in Avengers.... but still. its weird.

Molten Man could be the fire villain. He is a classic Spidey villain

In the comics, the Elementals are

    • Hydron, the lord of the waters
    • Mangum the master of the earth
    • Hellfire the wielder of flame
    • Zephyr the mistress of the winds
But Hydro Man could easily be the water villain

What if... the movie is set prior to Infinity wars?

After writing that sentence, i remembered he has a new suit so very doubtful :(

But yeah they should have waited until after the next avengers to show any trailer tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

I got the same feeling but at the same time there was no chance they weren't bringing Holland's Spiderman back imo. We all knew it was gonna happen...

Are people really that surprised Spider Man is back from the 'dead'?

Nick Fury kinda surprises me sure, but it'll be a cold, cold day in hell when any Studio decides to keep a massively loved character dead.

sum theories is this is set before IW and the scene where
They are on the bus is them actually returing from Europe ???

Yeah fairly annoying going too see Endgame knowing they will all come back somehow

    No mention of
Iron Man/Tony Stark in the trailer so i pressure hes gone for good

No, but it's a little odd to be trailing a movie where he's alive when in-universe he's dead.
(and the trailer isn't "Spiderman returns from the dead!")

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

I mean it could be from before IW and they just made a call that that's the lie they tell to not give anything away.

Its either give away both characters return or not tell people this is from before IW.

The synopsis says differently but it would be amazing if you were right. I think I'd love it.

Surely the fact that there is a Spider Man movie and a third Guardians of the Galaxy is evidence enough that they'll come back somehow in Infinity War

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Is there a third GoTG movie? Gunn going was the death of that movie.

Even if there is a third movie, the GoTG roster changed all the time in the books, so some of the characters introduced in GoTG 2 could move into leading roles.

Of course they're going to, but it would be strange to see a Guardians of the Galaxy trailer that was all about the gang going to find Rocket Raccoon's long-lost twin brother, and the trailer featured Gamora, and no-one in-universe thought it was odd that she was there...

Fun trailer.....interested to see how Mysterio is done, jake gyllenhaal is usually fantastic.

Obviously. But it would have been nice for them to hold back a little bit before Endgame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,958 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Trailer didn't do much for me. I don't like the Europe setting and even though I like Mysterio, him and the elementals seem very side story stuff. I really hope they are hiding the big bad until after Endgame.

Spidey being my favourite comic book character and the way marvel are handling the latest iteration, I'm just mad to see how they handle the sinister 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,596 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Theres also rumours that "Fury" could be Chameleon (aka first ever villian Spidey faced way back in his debut Comic appearance)

Also worth noting that marketing on this is controlled by Sony and Not Marvel..
Could be a little bit of 'this is our movie so screw what ye have planned' in play

If that's the case then it doesn't bode well for the future of Spider-Man in the MCU...

I’m sure the agreement is mutually beneficial and won’t end anytime soon.

Though, given Spider-Verse was by far the best Marvel superhero film yet made, considerably beyond anything from the MCU, I would not for a second complain about Sony refocusing their efforts on that strand of their licensing deal :)

The original agreement was to end after this Spider-Man film, I haven't read anything about it being extended yet. And if, as bennyl10 suggested, Sony are not playing ball marketing-wise, then the chances of it being extended are not good.
Spider-Verse was a different film, nothing to do with the MCU, so there'd be no reason for its future potential to be impacted either way by a continuation of Spider-Man in the MCU.

Did a little breakdown of the trailer and it's easter eggs if anyone is interested :)

As far as the Sony/Marvel deal from memory it was basically a handshake deal so it's not exactly a stable one.
That being said Sony completely benefit from the deal, they foot the bill and Marvel do lots of the work.

The only worry would be that they want Spider-man back for their own universe.
When the original deal took place Sony had made a mess of Spider-Man, now they have one of the highest grossing films of 2018 and one of the critical darlings of 2018 using Spidey properties.

They may decide it suits them better to strike out on their own but I don't know if there's much benefit. If they make good without Tom Holland then why burn that bridge.

Still not immediately buying into a Spider-Man movie set outside of New York; feels too much like the lazy sequel of sending the cast on a foreign holiday cos they can't think of anything else.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 827 ✭✭✭pxdf9i5cmoavkz

I don't understand the problem having Spidey and Nick Fury show up after the events of Infinity War. Marvel were always going to reverse The Snap, they had to reverse The Snap. It should not be a surprise at all.

At worst the "continuity" of the trailers feel disjointed. Suspension of disbelief and all that...

    Avengers Endgame -
I guess after Tony Starks death...
that Peter might get lulled into thinking of Mysterio as a bit of a mentor figure.
I'm still not 100% on them going full baddie or maybe full goodie with Mysterio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

I've seen Mysterio described as the
    cool uncle in the film
, either way, I'm curious to see how exactly it picks up post Endgame.

Also spoiler ban on Endgame is lifted today due to the trailer for this coming today.

I see omniplex presale for this is starting today. Bit early? 2nd July

    Well.. No.

Just cause the Russos say it doesn't make it true.

Well they wouldn't say so publicly on American television unless they knew something was coming down the track, which obviously something is.

Presumably they're trying to latch onto the Endgame related enthusiasm to get a few more sales from those desperate for more MCU

They are realesing an endgame spoiler heavy spider man trailer today.

But that doesn't mean a global spoiler thing is over, you still shouldn't be discussing endgame spoilers openly wherever you want.

The whole concept of a spoiler embargo is almost farcically absurd. The film’s out there, people can talk about it. The whole insane spoiler hysteria that surrounds modern franchise blockbusters has gotten completely out of hand - with the irony that most of these films are completely predictable in the first place. It’s nice to go in blind, absolutely. But social media shutdowns, ‘don’t spoil it’ hashtags, and the bizarre attacks on critics who discuss even the most general plot details pre-release are preposterous. At worst, they even invoke a sort of Streisand effect - the more people take extreme precautions to avoid spoilers, the more likely it is people out there will want to spoil it for others.

    It's just gonna probably be
Tom Holland at the front of the trailer saying the film spoils Endgame, so go see Endgame before this, roll footage from the film

Well surely if you've seen the film, you can be free to discuss it as you please with those who've seen it? I've seen Facebook posts/Twitter updates from friends warning people they'd be openly talking about Endgame and the events from it.

So if you haven't seen Endgame and somehow stumble across spoilers on social media, it's nobody's fault but your own.

One line in that trailer and they have made absolutely anything possible going forward in the franchise
