If you can see past the tire shine and hoover lines in the carpet, that 8 series looks quite tired, especially inside. The zoom function on those photos are not doing him any favours IMO.

I’m not for one second advocating the price, but I honestly can’t see it looking “tired” at all.

The seats look to be spotless, all the switch gear etc looks to be in very good nick, bodywork looks good and straight if you zoom in around...??

Being a bit pedantic over this but I suppose you can be given the asking price.

The threads are fraying a bit on the drivers seat bolster and I'd at least want the dust and sh1t cleaned out from that screw hole and in behind where the belt goes into the plastic trim.

A lot of scuffing on this lower dash panel

    Screenshot-20200417-204128-Chrome.jpg

Boot floor has a lot of stains

    Screenshot-20200417-204500-Chrome.jpg

Oil sweats from both rocker covers and brake fluid is as black as the ace of spades

O/S/R lower sill has a scuff

    N/S/F alloy is nicked

    Screenshot-20200417-205110-Chrome.jpg

And that's just what you can see in the rose tinted photos.

I know it's a used car not a new car but for the money I think it's fair to expect the car to be fooking mint. The prep work is minimal and poor, all things considered.

Is it worth over double the price if this one? I know it's higher mileage but it puts you in the ballpark. Even this one is strongly priced.

They only have to sell 1 or 2 cars a month to turn profit probably

I know the novelty is wearing off these but I couldn't resist.

Was scrolling facebook, seen the name, seen the car thought in my head what kind of lotto numbers does he want for this yoke, €30k says I laughing.

Yup... actually €30k, dont all rush at once though, he has a choice of two.

Rear alloys are on the wrong sides too!

Genuinely didn’t see those horrible scuffs on the dash.

One thing my Father always says and it rings very through

“If a vintage car looks good in photos it’s probably rough,

If it looks rough in photos you can be assured it’s rubbish”

The Irish seem to be talented at saying things are mint and making them look mint.

The gas thing is, Deane Motors only are always banging on about how good their specialist detailer is, and how well he prepares their cars etc!

You’d wonder what their definition of a Deane quality car is, most cars look well once they are cleaned and polished up, you’d have to wonder to what the cars condition was like before I was polished to a inch of its life!

They don't mention who "details" them ? They don't seem to have a trained eye for detailing

They frequently mention who details them. Ridiculously often on all their social media.

Ive bought a lot of "Performance" motors from "Specialist" dealers over the years and ive yet to deal with one who had any real clue about real Detailing same with main dealers in fairness! Its a real profession to do it right and its expensive too!

On the left side of the gear lever, there are 3 drill holes from a phone kit.... hate when people installing phone kits back in the day did this....

At least on that car you could just replace the trim that goes around the gear lever and radio...

Absolutely when they drill the dash it’s a not as easy ..

€5,500 for a 1991 190D on English please plates anyone? Wouldn't like to see the NOX charge on this one.

KMS and right hand drive and the Japanese writing of course, must of travelled.

To be fair it's worth that money to the right buyer, if it was cleared.

I'd say the NOX is definitely maxed out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,074 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

€200 VRT and Nox exempt next year. If it’s as well sorted as the ad alludes it’s well worth the money. I don’t really see the appeal of them but there is a big market for W201/124 Mercs of that vintage

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,385 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Is that even turbocharged?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,074 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

No turbo, but its a nice 5 cylinder unit. The 2.0 diesel is not as nice

They got a 2.5td om602 engine for about one year or something but I dunno were they ever made for the rhd market.

The om605 from a w202 c250td can be fitted relatively easily but I think the steering linkage has to be altered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,462 ✭✭✭hoodie6029

Its not vintage until August 2021 so he's dreaming at the moment. Unless there's a way to prove in 2021 that you it hadn't been in the country already there is a steep VRT bill looming.

There was a turbo in LHD markets. The US got a turbo diesel for one year only and they are quite collectable over there

This is the first CLS i've seen that has my mind ever so slightly changed, that's not a bad looking car at all. Considering the year, condition and low miles, surely it's not a million miles off? €7500-€8000 would be fair money, could be just starting high.

I think its an absolutely gorgeous looking car, and probably the best example you could buy in the whole country, but they truly have had their day. Even 7500 would be ludicrous IMO.

Heres a V8, with low enough miles, not too many owners and identical spec (+ airmatic and ventilated seats, which the 07 is missing) for less than 4k. I'm not saying its a like-for-like comparison, the wrap needs to go and it needs a nice set of wheels, but you get the picture.

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/cls-500/23602900

The only thing the 07 car has on top of a base spec car is heated seats, a sunroof and the AMG pack (which, to be fair, makes a massive difference to the look of the car. Its class)

The only people buying these cars now are enthusiasts, and who knows - maybe there is someone out there looking for a very very good example, but you could buy that V8 above and make it just as nice as the one linked and have a lot of change left over from 10, or even 7500.

Worth nothing that there is a decent looking CLS55 on Donedeal that could be had for around the same money

Jonathan in JC Autocare is their detailer, and he's been trained by the best (Ian, from Elite Autocare) but that 'valet' bangs of 'do a cheap job to make it look good outside'. I know Jon personally, and a long time at that.

Here's the Facebook Post from him, https://www.facebook.com/708305009236046/posts/2921190741280784/

TBH, engine aside, if my goal was to have a mint CLS with low miles, the 350 trumps that wrapped 500 all day long. The 350 is read to roll, you can be sure that 500 is not. And it's nicer to boot.

If cash was no object I’d have that 350 tomorrow, I think it’s possibly one of the nicest cars I’ve ever seen. But realistically I don’t think it will achieve anywhere near the asking. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong though!

So due an NCT and an oil change?? But wait he's kindly offered to change the oil for a small fee.

I'm guessing those 2 new front tyres are Triangle's finest rubber.
