It's the same dude who found the massive haul of CRTs a few years back. Wonder if these are still coming out of the same lot

Those two JVC monitors he has up at the moment look quite tasty. Not sure about the prices though.

Yeah tbh I'm not a massive fan of someone getting a massive lot for an really good price, and then tricking them out at premium prices.

That's just my two cents and coming from this community where we've all helped each other out with deals etc over the years.

Seems to be selling a Jvc Tm-h140pn for 375e - for a monitor that was mostly used by security CCTV and by default only has componsite and svideo, seems a little 'hot' on the value side. Security CCTV = high hours usually.

That Sony Trini is RF only, unsure if you can RGB mod it

In fairness to him, he's listed some big monitors at some decent prices, but yeah I wouldn't be spending that much on Svideo/composite only monitors. I'd assumed they had RGB cards in them at that price point - should have read the small print!

The ads that really bother me though are the small PVMs. Currently has a 9 inch listed for €200 and a 6 inch listed for €150.

Is that the dudes voice? 🤔

Yeah, more or less. Sounds slightly enhanced with extra clarity and base for the video.

I only spoke to him for about 10-15 mins in person when he dropped out a PVM over 2 years ago, but its definitely him.

Just handed my small Trinitron over to him this evening for repair. Seems a very nice guy anyway.

Be great to see how that goes! That your childhood 14 inch one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Good to know someone is tackling then. Have some nice ones myself that are acting up but I can't bring myself to throw them out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,989 ✭✭✭Inviere

Yep, the one and only. I remember playing LttP on it must be 25 years ago now. He said it sounds like a B+ problem anyway, in that the TV turns on and responds to remote inputs etc, but thr tube doesn't power up. We'll see what happens...

Hello, Boards! I am Weeb Labs and a friend of mine directed me to this thread. I am glad to see that people have generally been quite pleased with my services and pricing.

I currently have several CRTs and projectors queued for repair but feel free to contact me via DM should you have a set requiring work. 🙂

Welcome along, it's great to have someone so knowledgeable with crt's here 👍

Do you have any further ones that you plan to sell? If so, would you post?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Weeb Labs

Yes, I do intend to sell further units. There are a couple of JVC TM-H1950CGs, a DT-V1710CG, a Sony 2130QM, 2730QM, Ikegami TM14-17Rs, Barco ADVM-14s, ADVM-9s, quite a few JVC TM-A10Gs and others. Many of these are not yet in a saleable condition and so I can't really list all of them at once, unfortunately.

Huge thanks to @Weeb Labs for sorting it out. Lot of memories playing on this TV, bought from me brand new from Peats back in the day, so I'm chuffed to have it working again 😎

Thank you for the kind words, @Inviere! I'm glad that you're happy with the repair. 😊

Amazing! well done! What was gone in it as a matter of interest?

Must have been lovely having something as quality as a Trini back in the day Inviere, I had to make do with a 14 inch Telefunken with RF only right up until the PS2 days! 😮

I genuinely didn't know any better. I still used RF because who didn't back then, but yeah, chuffed to have it working. As for what was wrong with it, the details are a bit over my head but it's likely a component failed & in the process, took out a few other smaller parts down the line.

There were a couple of problems. The primary side regulator had failed and needed to be replaced.

The horizontal output transistor had also shorted base to collector, which caused the horizontal drive transistor behind its base transformer to short emitter to collector, which caused the transformer primary’s B+ resistor to fail short and completely obliterate the ordinarily resettable current cutout on that rail.

Crt diagnosis is an art in itself. It's really great to have someone who can fix these things 👍

This is how I read that 🙂

Are old CRT tellies that aren't high end monitors or Trinitons making anything these days?

I have 2 stored away but my free storage is needed soon and wondering whether they would be worth selling.

No model numbers/photos to hand but they are:

    • Early/Mid 2000s Philips 21 inch, silver body, stereo speakers, rear and side connections (rf, fm antenna, 3xrca, 2x scary and (I think) svideo

    • Early 90s Philips 'portable' ~15 inch, black body, mono speaker, 2x rca on front panel, rf andsingle scary on rear. I believe this tv had a new tube ~2004 and the OSD never displayed afterwards

Honestly, most of those kinds of sets are being given away, dropped to a recycler or, possibly, fetching €25 or so from someone who might know the model and the fidelity of the CRT.

Yeah CRTs are by and large still treated as junk. Even fancier Trinitrons and the likes can be had for free if you're willing to wait.

Only stuff that goes for a fortune is really high end professional equipment.

Had to skip a big Sony today. Broke my heart

The chassis was fucked out after I sent it for repair to a guy and the tube had a chip in it and it's been in my garage for 4 years now so it was time to make some space

    Shame though

Hardest part of this hobby is letting things go to the recycling centre, knowing that the particular item will never be made again - My condolences!
