45 for Galway and they blow half time

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Near perfect half from Galway and can see once again tonight why Galway have such a good recent record against Mayo.

O Laoi goes back up corner forward and kicks a lovely score. Madness to have him tracking back so deep. He's a nice footballer. Whether hes conditioned enough for championship football remains to be seen. Needs a good year S&C but a good prospect

This is what happens when you don't have a short kick out strategy and you're playing into a gale.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,982 ✭✭✭threeball

Ref not giving us much this game. Mayo getting plenty of frees that we're not.
Kerin stupid in his coughing up soft ones again.

I'm going to call it that we don't score again.

Weather like this is where tactics are of importance and we're inept under this fella.

Every point or score Mayo get they have a great chance of winning it back.

We didn't attack enough with the gale in the first half and the one situation you should try to slow the game and pass around is when you're 7 points up playing into a gale yet we're panicking. Its headless stuff

Losing kick out after kick out there for ages which just let mayo cut the lead.

We might sneak a draw which might be enough to stay up which is all that matters this year.

5 points might do it and anything on top would seal it.

A point here would win it. They kind of steady the ship. Goal chance was badly missed. It was game over

Credit where its due. They battled hard to stop being overran and got some good scores to turn it around.

Good win, but we made it hard on ourselves.

    Mayo had some crazy shooting

When has it ever been any different :D

    Status retained after that.
Mayo just don't have the quality of player we have.

Their better players are all the wrong end of their 20s or 30s.
Horan will improve them IMO but he has less to work with than he had last time.

Galway scored more in second half than Mayo did in first half who were playing against thirteen for nine minutes. That’s Mayo who have an excellent manager according to you.

That ‘fella’ has two all Ireland medals in his pockets, Connacht titles with Sligo and Galway, who were getting beat by twenty points plus in Connacht when he took over. But sure he hasn’t a clue about football.

They showed a bit more willingness to push forward tonight. Hopefully they do more of it. Roscommon and Tyrone are well beatable and that will put us very near the top of the table.
Given the amount of lads we have to come back yet, we have a serious squad. I hope they're allowed show what they're capable of.

They do have a better manager.
You know very little if you're trying to argue otherwise.

Mayo have scores of players who wouldn't make Galways team but made a few AIs over the past few years.

Why not make a point instead of hiding behind a keyboard waiting to have a go at someone you don't agree with when it suits.

Scores of players? Are you insane? Mayo may not be the force they were but the team that was making all Ireland football finals was an outstanding outfit with excellent players across the team, probably only lacking a truly top class forward in the mould of Padraic Joyce.

As for talking about hiding a keyboard, there must be no mirrors in your house.

Disagree with Walsh’s tactics all you want but the facts are that regardless of how reign turns out, he is a legend of Galway football who was a pivotal player in two all Ireland teams and has now restored pride in Galway football from taken hockeyings.

You call yourself a Galway supporter and treat him with contempt on here. There’s a way to criticise with respect, you might want to consider that.

    Yes scores of players.

What in Gods name does his record of a player have to do with his management ability?
Did I ever say he wasnt a playing legend?

We were losing games at that point as we hadn't the players.
We fell off the radar at under age level as well, whether he came or not an improvement was coming and returning to winning Connacht titles was only the norm.

Does it go on head to head?

In fairness it has been a remarkable league by Galway in the circumstances

Style of play aside, I actually think KW is doing an exceptional job

John daly has the makings of a proper centre back. Didn't give o shea a sniff in the first half and then got moved off him when Bradshaw came on and the flood gates open and moved back in 6 and things tightened again. The thoughts of molloy, daly, wall, mcdaid and heaney as our half back line options is exciting.

    2019
    NFL - Mayo 0-12 Galway 1-11
FBD - Galway 1-9 Mayo 1-9 (Galway won 4-2 on penalties)

    2018
    Championship - Mayo 0-12 Galway 1-12
    NFL - Galway 1-13 Mayo 0-11
    FBD - Mayo 1-9 Galway 1-10
    2017
    Championship - Galway 0-15 Mayo 1-11
    2016
    Championship - Mayo 0-12 Galway 1-12

Key to each of those 7 Galway wins has been holding Mayo to low scores and talk about consistent low scores there also.

2014,2013 before Kevin Walsh was manager Galway conceded 3-14 and 4-16 against Mayo. Can't help feeling that Walsh isn't getting the credit he deserves from some..

You’re delusional if you think a team that drew with Dublin in one All Ireland final and ran them to one point losses in two other finals had scores of players that wouldn’t make the current Galway team.

Based on that logic and your view of Horans management abilities, Galway would be beating Dublin by six or seven points if Horan was in charge of the Galway football team.

The reference to his playing record was to indicate that considering all Walsh has contributed to Galway football, he is entitled to a bit of respect not the dismissive condescending attitude you resort to when talking about him.

Bit misleading seen as Mayo were beginning their golden generation around the same time as we were at our lowest ebb. More an indictment of Mayo that we scored that much off them as we had a really weak back six and relied almost entirely on Michael Meehan to keep the show on the road up front.

Yes we got the scores down against us but our scoring has dropped dramatically also. Theres a middle ground to be had that shouldn't be hard to achieve given the talent available

Whatever about Walsh's tactics, he's installed amazing character and toughness. How many times from 05-15 did we lose by 1 point? Probably 8 in championship alone. And now when we're backs to the wall against the wind (Monaghan, Mayo, Roscommon), we tough out a victory
