Apple just confirmed the time and date for their next special event. As rumoured it’s on the 12th at the usual 10am US time (6pm Irish time).

Supposed to be three new iPhone models, updated Apple watches, maybe new iPad pros, and a chance of a few mac updates as well.

We usually get the final releases of the software announced at WWDC so they will probably be out right after the event. Looking forward to this one.

Pretty sure that round graphic indicates "what goes around comes around", meaning FM radio is finally back in play.

    Sweet.

that copper, subtle nod to a copperish/goldish iPhone?

They better not release a ‘round’ Apple Watch.

The square shape is iconic at this stage.

    Yes, but probably in October.

I know the event is less than two weeks away but that’s a pretty big leak.

    The new iPhone Xs(‘s)
    97_F15_B06_B0_C4_4_B92_B0_DB_A78761_A1_CE4_E.jpg

The new Apple Watch Series 4

Looks like the iPhone will have the gold colour and bigger size, but wonder if they will drop the ‘Plus’ branding? Also, will the LCD version be iPhone 9?

I’m personally looking forward to the new Watch, and the bigger screen is a great addition.

Leaks all year have been spot on I was hoping for the plus. The new watch looks great with the bigger screen size. I think they will keep with the plus name for the bigger Xs Plus.

I’m not updating the phone this year as I have the X.
But I am waiting on the watch update as my wedding present from Mrs. kceire.
That and AirPods are on my wish list currently.

The new watch interface looks amazing!

That’s a lot of complications on the screen!

All the reports I’ve seen point to a release date of 2019 for the 2nd Gen AirPods. Wireless charging case may be available this year.

I got an 8 Plus last year

I can’t see myself getting an XS this year

Might be tempted to replace my old MB Air though depending on what the new one is like...

I don't get why the Apple Watch is still so FAT. Apple are usually obsessed with making everything thinner.

I'm in an upgrade year for my phone. Waiting to see the contract prices for them here (including last years' X) - and which of them still have 3D touch support.

If they lose 3D touch on the 6.1" cheaper model, I might just get last years X as it'll still have a better camera.

I bet it was when they were first making it, they wanted to have what the Series 3 has from a feature point of view. gps, altimeter, cellular radio, all day battery, water proof to 50m etc. but couldn't fit it in yet due to manufacturing or miniaturisation processes.

Series 3 watch has everything they wanted so now they can slim it down, if they make it larger (i.e. 46mm being rumoured) it give enough volume to put a slimmer but bigger battery in it.

I really don't see the watch being nicer if it gets bigger. Some of the other smart watches out there are far nicer and more stylish as it is.

name a smartwatch that has roughly the same functionality (nokia/withing watches excluded) and looks nicer?

Strange reply. I never said anything about functionality, and why remove those 2? I've never seen a Nokia, but the Withings offerings are nice.. As the Apple Watch is the only proper iOS device, I wouldn't expect the same functionality.

Not really that strange, was just curious as to what you thought was nicer looking.

Nokia now owns Withings basically the same watch. I removed them because they're not really that smart, yeah they have step tracking etc but they don't have gps, music streaming, cellular calls all the other things an Apple Watch does.

I guess I was thinking you were going to say some Android monstrosity was nicer looking :pac:

The Withings is elegant. I also like the Huawei original watch, and the Sportwatch. Some of the Samsung S3 aren't bad. I don't know about functionality of other watches with iOS, I haven't investigated fully. I won't be going with another Apple Watch, though, it did seem to get laggy very quickly, despite it being only a few years old. Not that its cheap either. Once the apps lag, you tend not to use the functionality anyway...e.g nest is unusable on the series 0.

Might have a look at the one that is being launched at the moment which powers itself through body heat.

Nokia sold the business back to Withings this year.

Still using my jet black 7 plus. Might be tempted to change up for an XS Plus or whatever it ends up being called. Also glad to see a bigger watch screen, the 42mm feels still a tad too small for me.

I have an iPhone 8 which I got last Christmas and a Watch Series 3 which I got approximately 6 months ago. Depending on how much I like what is announced, I’ll probably upgrade one of them this Christmas. If the new Watch had a decent upgrade on battery life, I’d probably go for it. I’m currently getting 2.5 to 3 days out of my Watch so it’s not too bad at the moment, but I was used to closer to 10 days for my Fitbit (which could admittedly do a lot less)

not too sure about the new XS unless it is a massive improvement over the X.
    New watch could be nice....
I have however got 450 euro in apple vouchers that needs to be spent...so who knows..

I wouldn’t be a fan of “Max” either. Reminds me too much of the Galaxy Mega by Samsung, which I think sounded awful as a name.

I also recently saw a rumour saying they might call it the “Xs Pro”, to align more with the naming conventions on iPad and MacBook.
Also that this would be followed by the numerical X, 8, 9 and s parts of the naming being completely dropped next year and the devices just being called “iPhone” and “iPhone Pro”, with a subtext akin to iPad 5th gen (2017), iPad 6th gen (2018) being used for clarification between years, but not officially part of the name.

Guess we’ll know soon enough. :-)

I remember before Apple new slate/tablet was released came out, the name "iPad" was bandied around and ridiculed in many quarters. Once Steve Jobs lifted the thing up - all was instantly forgotten.

Once the products are released and all the unboxing and newsreels are watched, how many people really care what they're called? Don't get me wrong I enjoy this time year as much as any, but I struggled to remember or care what model my iPhone is. Maybe that's the problem. Just call the damn thing a number!

I wasn’t bothering doing this but if the 5.8” gets a price drop that’ll mean I’ll get less for it long term so I’m considering selling now and getting the Xs or maybe upgrading to a plus.

I’d say the plus will take the X’s price point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭dubmick

lads how much was the X on a €40 Vodafone contract last year?  600 or 700 ??

Anyone selling their 64GB X? And if so, for how much?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

To be fair, you’ll be better off buying this years 5.8 inch model for the same price someone is selling last years.

My 256gb X was €1349, the 5.8 inch being much cheaper this year is going to kill the second hand market this year!

That’s what I think as well so I want to flog it as soon as I can!

I think the Xs will be around €1000 this year and the Xs Plus or Max will be €1179.. so if going rate for the X based on adverts is €800-850 I’d be ok with a €200 upgrade for the Xs tbh

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

Hold out, the Xs May not even be worth the upgrade. IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,353 ✭✭✭Shn99

How much roughly could a second hand 8+ be after next weeks event? around 550-600 at the mo

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

The 8 and 8+ shouldn’t drop too much due to them being discontinued as opposed to being upgraded.

The only problem being with the 2017 X, no ones gonna pay a premium second hand when they can get a marginally upgraded 2018 model brand new for less than most people would be expecting for their 2017 model.

Might not be as cheap as was originally expected, some analysts are now predicting the X could stay at or around the price its currently at, with the Xs Max model being priced higher again by €100-€200.

This is just analysts predictions, so definitely take it with a pinch of salt but these sometimes turn out to be correct.
