I know, I wonder why the delay in testing the remains?

At the family have some closure and can have a burial, although still many questions as to what it happened to the poor young man

Interestingly, some of these issues have only been recently discussed in the Seanad:
Senator Burke proposes that I should “establish a new section for unidentified human remains which will centralise information and streamline the identification process”. He has previously submitted to me, a proposal from a well-respected Forensic Anthropologist that a Forensic Human Remains Identification Specialist position be established and located within the Department’s ambit.

If they really are going to do something proactive about it remains to be seen.

I think from reading the article is that DNA extraction had advanced but not enough to let them test these remains up until now.

You'd have to wonder how many other remains are lying in a morgue that could give families closure.

That’s exactly the problem addressed by the proposal with the Dept of Justice at the moment. A centralised database of all bodies, body parts and bones unidentified throughout the country to be headed by a human remains identification specialist to act as a point of contact and advice for Gardai, Coroners, families and the public in general.

It seems it’s aimed at coordinating all identification efforts with modern technologies and provide comprehensive data on all cases. The way I read this would mean a dedicated person or office that will only deal with unidentified and missing cases to free up time for other forensic people.

It appears more likely now that he took his own life rather than died at the hands of others.

From what I can tell by Google Maps, this Quay Island is in the Shannon Estuary, well downstream of Limerick city.

The unfortunate lad may have just fallen in: that Shannon is a mighty river and he could have been swept away, and part of the body wash up on the island weeks or months later.

Yeh i think with a lot of the young men who have gone missing like gussie suicide or accidental death is the most obvious explanation. Trevor Deely being another where this is probable. Unfortunatley with Deirdre something sinister probably happened.

    From that:
“Larry Murphy’s intention is to never come back to Ireland – he is hiding in the UK where no one knows him and that’s where he wants to stay. He has a girlfriend there and is living a quiet life.”

The sheer stupidity of some members of the human race is awe inspiring.

I wonder do Murphys girlfriend know that he has a deadly past,
It seems to be that the garda think he may have killed Deirdre,

I'd say she does. He hasn't changed his name or anything has he?

How come murderers get girlfriends? The mind boggles :(

He almost killed that woman so in my eyes he's a murderer. And I'd bet my life on it that he has killed a few women.

Deirdre Jacobs, along with Philip Cairns, is to me one of the scariest missing person cases in Ireland because they happened in broad daylight in built up areas. Jastine Valdez too, though she’s not missing obviously. But she was snatched in daylight too.

Will give this a watch tonight

I said in this thread last Summer when it was going strong, I always thought she must have gotten inside the house and then left again with somebody during the following couple of hours - possibly the person who brought her into town!

The fact that Mr. Jacob regularly and explicitly points out that there were a number of witness who saw her walking home, but not one who saw her walking into town, suggest to me that it's a line of thought that he has too.

And another thought I have always had - it would be interesting to know if there had been any burglaries in the vicinity that afternoon

She may have walked up the driveway, caught people about to break into her home, and they did her some harm.

Think the mother was at home, it really sounds like L Murphy did it, but no proof.

    100%agree . It was him.

Feel so sorry for her family after watching it tonight and obviously a victim's family can't take the law into their own hands, but I'd imagine if one were to arrange the kidnap and torture of Murphy for answers that the law mightn't be too hard on you.

    No, her mother wasn't home.

    Could have been Larry Murphy
    Could have been John Crerar
Could have been lots of people!
