The problem with trading for Fields is that he is entering into the 4th season. Nobody is going to trigger the 5th season if they traded for him. And if he is successful for a period, what contract could you sign him to? The value that the Bears got is about what could be expected.

Well if he is one and done in Pittsburgh you probably get a decent comp pick if he signs elsewhere. You also get exclusive negotiating rights to him in the interim, its a good low risk trade for the Steelers.

If he plays well you can work out an extension, if not you can let him walk next year.

They don’t need to give Fields the fifth year option they can just see how this year goes and extent him if they want him back for 2025. Wilson will likely have moved on if that happens and Fields would have no reason not to re-sign

The Steelers methodology of patience and stability appears to have been tossed out under the new front office. It’ll be interesting to see how this works out for them

A huge, major, even ginormous change to the rules next year - kick-offs are going to go from being boring to one of the most important phases of play as the XFL-type kick-off is going to be part of the game.

I like the new kick-offs idea they were gone stale. Shame nothing being done about QBs fake sliding and making defenders give up on tackles.

Charlie Smyth fromer Down GAA under 20 goalkeeper signs with the Saints.

This is the guy who sent an email to enquires@nfl.com a few years ago wondering how to get a job as a kicker in the NFL.

He kicked a decent 63 yarder on a windy day in practice a few days ago at the IPP facility.

Now there's a long way between now and the final roster cuts but it a good start for him.

Chiefs sign Welsh rugby union & Lions player Louis Rees-Zammit

Rees-Zammit signed a three-year contract with the Chiefs - typifying the faith shown in the Welshman by Andy Reid's team as IPP players aren't guaranteed any length of contract. He has also been given a guaranteed salary in addition to a signing bonus. He has targeted a hybrid role playing at both wide receiver and running back, and his next task will be to try to earn a regular-season roster spot.

Chiefs might need him as a WR with Rashee Rice on the run from the cops following a hit and run in Dallas overnight.

Highly unlikely he will be making the active roster as a wide receiver.

If he does make it it will likely be as a return specialist.

A busy few days for the Chiefs with Rees-Zammit signing, Rice's stupidity, and now JK Dobbins in the building for a visit. They also re-signed CEH for another year so that probably, and sadly, means the end for McKinnon who has been brilliant.

    No draft thread.

Please Patriots do not join the Jags, Jets and 49ers drafting a QB at three. Those QBs were Bortles, Darnold and Lance. No other QB has been drafted at three in the last ten years.

I think Penix is the best QB prospect in this draft.

Penix to the Falcons at #8 is the first big shock.

Dont think anyone had them taking a QB.

Blank is a clown, I've said that many times.

Belichick saying he likes him a lot. He didn't like all the top rated QBs.

Good draft so far if you need defensive players.

Happy with that Chiefs pick, surprised the Bills allowed the trade though.

I'd say the LasVegas and Denver are fuming with Atlanta taking Penix.

With them and Minnesota needing a QB, and Minnesota already expected to take McCarthy there would be only Nix left when it came around to Denver at 11 and LV at 12.

So Denver had to take Nix even though he was said to be the lowest prospect of the top six QBs, and Las Vegas were left without any of the top six QBs.

    Chicago did well getting Oduze.

GM should be fired immediately, criminal waste of a pick

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,010 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

Oh, Falcons. Could have gone in for Lamar, instead are now paying similar money for Cousins and spending a top 10 pick on his replacement due to his age and injury.

Really like Morris but the whole thing is a mess.

Especially with Penix’s age, it’s not a green 21 year old that can benefit from sitting and learning the ropes of the NFL. Assuming Cousins plays out the contract, Penix will be in his late 20s when he’ll emerge as starter (all going well). He’s not a first round QB talent anyway imo.
