England were favourites by 20 points with the bookies, :P

Last try potentially huge in terms of championship. 5-0 in terms of points on table instead of 4-1

  • Registered Users Posts: 854 ✭✭✭foxyladyxx

Well coached. grew in confidence as game progressed.

    Who stood out?

Great to see a good crowd at the game too. And at the women's game. Moving the game to Cork seems to have been justified

Hodnett and Penny for me ..but they were all brilliant.

Oh and Harry Byrne and the full back ..Flannery?

Thought the 8, Scott Penny, the 9 (passing was good but box kicking needs a little work) & Harry Byrne. The 15 too. Tbf they all played really well, great performance.

    Italy beat Scotland 32-22
    France Wales is Sunday

I thought the Loosehead was impressive, had to come back on after the sin-bin and won the penalty.

Just after watching the second half of the game. What a win. Pure grit and determination in that second half.

Deserved to be in the lead after the first half performance but gifted England a lot of there points.

Brilliant performances from all the pack, Casey, Byrne and flannery.

How did Hawkshaw play? This team showed plenty of grit to grind out that win like Hawkshaw did in school.

Hawkshaw played well until he went off injured in the second half..

None of them had a poor game. They really gelled particularly in the second half.

I think Hawkshaw had a knock to the knee, ,

Is it like GAA and almost every Irish born player in the senior squads once played for the under 20s ???

You never hear much from ex players about there under age careers ?

It isnt the case at all and its far from the case with senior pro squads that every irish born player played for irish 20s.
You dont hear too much from retired players on their under age career because its just their age grade career. A stepping stone to playing adult rugby

    Was at the game
    Cracking atmosphere
    Impressed with both teams fullbacks
Thought Hill was very good for England too
Our 9-10-12 axis was really efficient- all 3 are cracking players
Hodnett, Penny and T-M went great in the pack (everyone did but those 3 stood out to me there)

Love the name Hawkshaw, sounds like he is the Pokémon evolution of Henshaw

    T'was a good night

Credit where credit is due We’ll done to the 20s & coaching staff. What a result I never expected that. Feared that we would get bet by 30 or more. Great work done with the scrum and locking them out, great performance all round Harlingen Ryan and our back rows put in some big tackles and turnovers that really made a difference. Nice to be proved wrong!!

Of the Leinster Ireland u20 starters

    3. Tom Clarkson(Blackrock/DUFC), was excellent, played the whole game at 3, at 18 years old.
    4. Charlie Ryan(Blackrock/UCD), was very good, looked much more athletic that last season. Captain after Hawkshaw went off.
    6. Martin Moloney(Athy RFC/Old Belvedere), strong 1st half, quieter in the second, was a strong breakdown threat.
    7. Scott Penny(St. Michaels/UCD), excellent all round game, tackle machine.
    10. Harry Byrne(St. Michaels/Lansdowne), bar one kick, he was excellent.
    12. David Hawkshaw(Belvedere/Clontarf), poor pass at the start to give away a try, other than that pretty good.
    13. Liam Turner(Blackrock/DUFC), very good, looked very much up to it physically at 13.

    Subs
    16. John McKee(Campbell/Old Belvedere) - got 10 mins, scrum improved when he came on.
    17. Michael Milne(Roscrea/UCD) - struggled with the scrum at the start but adapted well, carried a lot once he came on.
    19. Brian Deeny(Wexford RFC/Clontarf) - wasn't on long enough.
    21. Cormac Foley(St. Gerards/St. Marys) - wasn't on long, but did very well to score his try to win the game.
    23. Rob Russell(St. Michaels/DUFC) - wasn't on long enough.

One thing I noticed was Harry Byrne went off with a HIA and was back on less than 5 minutes later. Thought it was a mandatory 10 minutes off for hia?

He didn't come back on in the second half so maybe the 10/15 mins at half time was included?

10 minutes is the max assessment time.

As delighted as I'm sure the rest of us are for Leinster, maybe post this on the Leinster thread!

Ah didn't realise he didn't come back out to start the half, rte player froze so I missed first 2 minutes of the second half.

That's blood sub. For a HIA you have to take the full time
