    Per the DCM Facebook page.....

Hi Bill, yes, I can confirm that the organisers of the #KBCDublinMarathon will be introducing an official refund system for 2019 which will be managed centrally by their team. The details are being finalised at present and will be announced in the coming weeks so please keep an eye on www.kbcdublinmarathon.ie & our social channels for more information. Many Thanks

So the ambition that dominated and possibly limited my running life has been finally achieved. At almost 44 years of age 00and after 34 marathons and 8 ultras I had decided that Dublin 18 was to be my last serious attempt. I trained harder than ever before since January and the effort took a toll mentaly as well as physicaly. What now is the question. I think I can go faster. I believe sub 2.28 is realistic and with the monkey now thrown off possibly even 2.26 is possible.Il give a spring marathon a go possibly Krakow if not Limerick. Its very hard to beat Dublin for athmospere even if the road surface is poor for a capital city so hopefully Il be on the start line again in October 19.

Apparently there are 10,000 entries gone for DCM 2019 already. At this rate looks as if it will be sold out by Christmas. It’s crazy how popular it’s become since moving to the Sunday.

Think running became popular because unlike team sports or 5 a side you can do it on your own time and fit into your own daily routine

The amount of people i do see running into work in city centre every day is phenomenal. 30 min bus journey and woyld regularly see 15-20 ppl

Running to work is probably more attractive (and quicker) than relying on public transport and/or driving yourself in this increasingly gridlocked and slow moving city. Possibly related, albeit in a very small way, factors.

I think it is also because DCM has become an event as distinct to a race. It has captured the imagination of many of those who stood roadside to watch it. It is now a bucket list item.

Does anyone know if DCM have any plans to sell off the remaining 2018 clothing like they did last year?

Nice one, just ordered a couple of tops.
Couldn't remember the name of the site from last year.

Dublin Marathon twitter advising they're down to last 4,000 in case anyone is putting the registration on the long finger for 2019.

Just read in the paper this morning that it's down to 2,000 places left now. Feck the presents and get it booked if you haven't already.

I have to say the fact that they're sponsoring it is a turnoff for me already.

I wonder if there will be any backlash for KBC in regards to the bad publicity they're receiving at the moment. DCM are probably just hoping it all blows over. They wouldn't have been my first choice for sure.

Milk Cup? Coca-Cola Cup? Carling Cup? Carabao Cup? or indeed no sponsor at all, to the vast majority of people running the race it's a non issue. I, of course, could be way off on this......

Have those sponsoring these other cups etc. had similar bad publicity though.

The sponsor wouldn't stop me from entering a race. The race is sold out so i doubt it will matter too much if a few thousand don't turn up

It isn't being sponsored by gambling, alcohol, cigarettes, arms, or some Gulf state. It's a bank, with a lot of customers in Ireland, who I bet aren't outraged enough (if at all) to move their accounts, let alone think badly of a race that accepted the sponsorship long before there was any controversy.

I'd prefer to see it sponsored by Diageo to be honest. I wouldn't expect people to pull out of a race that they have been desperate enough to pay for a year in advance unless they were personally affected. I would expect DCM to be hoping it will blow over or else find another sponsor next year if it doesn't. Probably won't come to that anyway and the race isn't big enough of a catch for anyone bigger or better than KCB to want a part of it. Well not yet anyway. I am hoping for bigger things for DCM though.

If the rumours are to be believed and they allow transfers then yes but so far I havn't seen anything solid put in place. It won't be that many places if it happens, they'll be very hard to come by.

I was just throwing the question out there as it was in my head reading and hearing about them lately.

I was thinking more about demo's than people pulling out.
I was also thinking I wouldn't like to be associated with them if I had a choice.

Because they went through the full legal process over a period of 10 years to try and receive monies that they were due from people who were blatantly cheating the system?

Yeah, its probably not the thread to be going into all this, actually its definitely not the thread to be going in to it. We are all happy runners around here!! :)

But its certainly not a case of bad foreign bank evicting a poor unsuspecting farmer.

they have said that they will be operating a refund system this year, with runners able to sell their places back to the marathon and those places then being resold. They haven't released any details yet.
