I think i mixed up couple of different posts...apologies....i used google only and oneplus app syncs to google...

The big positive of the OnePlus Switch app (and indeed most of the manufacturer switch apps) for me was that it allowed me to bring my SMS history - unless Google have changed something since Android 6 (which I upgraded from), SMS does not sync via the cloud for most phones. The vendor-developed switch apps take care of those kind of gaps very well in general, OnePlus Switch being no exception.

That's a valid point. The only SMS I get these days are security codes or confirmations so never even thought of it.

So I decided the time was right to make the move from Apple IOS to Android via One Plus 6. I have been using an IPhone since the 3GS up until The iPhone 6S Plus for the last couple of years, but the idiotic decision to drop the headphone jack and constant price increase with very little innovation has convinced me to move to Android and One Plus’s OxygenOS seems close enough to stock android without the bloatware added by the likes of Samsung. One thing holding me back was the camera a freind or mine got the 5T and said photos were crap on it but from accounts on here and YouTube reviews they seemed to have rectified this somewhat with the 6. Also I wanted the big screen and this tics that box. The audio quality from the built in DAC via the headphone jack gets good reviews also. I am sure we will have a 6T in a few months with wireless charging and possibly a fingerprint reader built into the screen (something announced on one of the Mi8 models releasing soon) but I can live without either of those.
So 3am this morning I ordered the piano black 128GB version with the nylon bumper case using one of the referral codes from the other thread.
One thing I’m worried about is transferring my contacts photos data etc from my iPhone to The One Plus any suggestions?
So goodbye Apple and hello One Plus I hope It will serve me well for the next couple of years!

Just made this switch myself. My first Android phone. Before I got the OnePlus 6 I just backed up everything to Google. Google photos, Google contacts etc... It was really straight forward and didn't take too long. Just be sure to turn off iMessage or you might not get texts from people.

So lads anyone unlocked the bootloader and Root their One Plus 6, seen a few YouTube videos of folks doing it, just wondering if it’s worth it? I’ve seen some interesting things you can do One is a way to have an always on display.

45 quid delivered for a charger and a 1.5m cable delivered from OnePlus directly. Bit of a pain but I guess it's worth it in the long run.

The length of the cable is a joke. I have the car charger, and with the phone to the right of the steering wheel (which I feel is a fairly common location) it barely reaches and is in fact very dangerous, as I found out recently taking a roundabout and the cable somehow got caught and was preventing the steering wheel from turning

Most phones get that default length of 1 metre for the usb cable. Paying the extra for the 1.5 metre cable is worth it.

This is for the car charger which comes with a cable. You don't get to choose the length of the cable that come with it.

Anyway, this is off topic I guess just wanted to highlight that the phone charger cable is not of a suitable length in my opinion.

Placing the phone to the left of the steering wheel wouldn't be the biggest compromise.

Depends on the car, for me it blocks the screen with controls for radio/nav etc.

Outside of the distinctive white and red cable is it a standard usb C cable or is there something proprietary about the cable to use with the dash charger?

That's a good question, I assumed it was required for dash charging but may be wrong on that.

A standard USB-C cable will charge the phone, but won't give you Dash.

The other advantage of Dash other than speed is that it will continue to charge at fast speed while the phone is in use, e.g. in the car for navigation where the screen is always on.

Yes...it will help for any drops...gorilla glass is scratch resistant to a level...but not shatterproof...

When you have the camera on a subject it looks crystal clear but when you take the photo it's not as clear I have found.

Anyone else have a problem with the panorama or is it just me? Took three yesterday and they were shocking bad. All up and down as if I took them during an earthquake.

Oneplus panaroma has been always bad....

Would ye think software will improve the camera?
    Considering returning over it

Downloaded cardboard camera from the app store and it did a perfect panorama for me so it's not the camera that's the problem. Must be the software.

Is the camera on the back decent? I'm coming from a decent camera on the S7 and while I know OnePlus can't match the likes of the S9 there I'm hoping it won't be worse off than what I have... :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 590 ✭✭✭ldr

Some pictures match the s9 plus they are rare but they do happen. Compared to the note 8 I get more often the image I want at first shot.
According to my partner the images on the OnePlus are more natural and are good. must be me and being so use to the Samsung image processing the reason I find the colors washed on the oneplus

    I didn't mention panorama

Keep reading that the speaker is terrible and sound from the headphone jack is a lot lower than previous Oneplus phones.

Ugh really like everything else about the phone and wanted to upgrade from the 3T but thats putting me off the 6 now. Do you think a software update could fix the sound?

Yeah I decided this weekend after agonising over it at work for the past few weeks that Im going to wait for the 6T and see, theres too many compromises here and too many good phones being released at the minute aswell. I want the best camera money can buy this time around aswell, might just switch to contract for the S9.

For Dash charging, you need the OnePlus charger and cable.

Plugging the cable into the car's USB port will still charge it, just not as fast.
