Walking on such a bright morning. A lazy wind and a real bite to it but it clears the cobwebs and invigorates.

And, meeting an old friend while out walking; hadn't see him in years.

Th finally meeting my niece today for the first time, she was very quiet at first so I went over to the cupboard and gave her a plastic cup, well as soon as I gave it to her, her little face lit up and she grabbed it and was shouting mad and banging it off the floor, I took it off her then and placed it a bit away from and she took off crawling mad trying catch it :D

Then I got on all fours and started crawling as well and was i making funny noises and she was breaking her ass laughing at me :3:3

Just got a phonecall from the principal of the local gaelscoil, where my 3.5-year-old had a full interview (!) in Irish (!) to see whether she'd get into the school. She was brilliant on the day, not so much talking but understanding everything they asked her -e.g. 'tabhair dom an ceann dearg' and she'd give them the red brick. It was a very informal interview in that we were sitting at little baby desks and herself was being chatted to in the Irish on the floor with the toys. After about 20 minutes the poor girseach had great tiredness on her and couldn't even count in Irish even though it's no problem for her. She was so positive about the whole process for the previous month or so and she wore her best dress for it and did up her hair and everything. Everybody - in playschool, wider family and friends - who knew she was preparing for it upped their own usage of Irish in the preceding weeks to help her.

I had no familial connection with the school and there is crazy demand for places so it was brilliant to find out that the fact that she is being raised through Irish by me accounts for more than having some blood connection with a school. Long live meritocracy over aristocracy.

Wife just texted to see if I'll ring up, creid é nó ná creid é, the secondary school and look for application forms for them now. I'd swear I just changed the nappy on one of these potential secondary school students at 4am this morning. Hilarious. Ambitious parents are entertainingly mad! (shhh but big pleasing auld eejit that I am I just rang up the secondary school and the woman laughed and said come back when she's in 5th class!)

Woke up this morning with the worst sore throat I've had since I got my tonsils out at 11. But on the plus side, I had today off and am currently curled up on the couch under a fluffy blanket, with my dog asleep beside me and Manhunt: Unabomber on the TV

I went to the doctor a number of years back, with a sore throat. He said my tonsils were infected and I laughed, telling him I had them out when I was 7. He told me they had grown back! He said they really just 'pruned them'.

    Gargle with salt in water.

TH, after going through a few years after this with constant tonsil infections and being told I have to 'get them out again', the infections stopped and (touch wood) no issues in a long time.

Reminds me of my dad....rinse with salt and water was his cure for everything......." Dad, I've sprained my ankle"...rinse your mouth out with salt and water.......Dad, I've cut my finger....rinse your mouth out with salt and water...lol.lol

    Still a legend though...

Himself got me some gifts in the airport when he was coming to visit. A pack of 5 travel sized YSL perfumes, and an Urban Decay liquid lipstick. I wore one of the perfumes today and I really like it, I’ve been smelling so good! The liquid lipstick is unreal too, and glittery pink so very pretty :D

Yes, the glory days are back! It's Christmas - feck off, it is! - that means the elves are going about checking and that means the páistí and falling over each other to be the first in bed.

Brilliant fun tonight, and I stood there at the window showing them the moon and pretending to see the shadow of the elves in the moon as they were leaving Santaland to come down to check all the little children in Ireland are asleep. They ran into their rooms and pretended to be asleep and within 10 minutes were actually asleep. Let's keep this Christmas stuff going all year round.

Some of the shop folk here in deep rural Ireland are legends.. I went to my usual coal merchants on the way home and it was not the usual man on duty... I always get a 20 kg bag of 2s... So i told him "sapphire" and he went off and in due course came back hefting the sack and dumped it in the back of the car... I stared; "That is a big bag? I have the one at E8" ( never a bother before as they all know me)
So the man gazed at the 40 k bag deep in the depths of the car... You could see him thinking how hard to drag it out... "Ah well, you can have that for the E8!"

Christmas? or just as my neighbour opined, too lazy to get it out.... |So free coal.... YAY! Makes me very happy in the cold today

Yes; I burn mostly island turf but put coal on as I go to bed early. Last 20 kg bag lasted nearly three weeks. I was very worried at the weight as they have to get it in and out of the small ferry.. but hey! These men just lift it as if it were feathers... so maybe no more needed before Christmas,,, would love logs...

Well done Cleo, fair play for having the motivation. You should reward yourself with a few extra treats over Christmas!

Aww thank you very much Susie. I've actually just lost interest in food so I eat my breakfast, lunch and dinner and the weight just comes off. Best diet I've ever done :D Think I might treat myself to a Christmas outfit :)

I never knew for some bizarre reason that there was an Omen 2 and Omen 3. Only realised it when a scene from Omen 2 was referenced in the elevator that fell recently in the states injuring a number of people.

Anyway, bottom line is at least 1 Trilogy sorted for the Christmas Period. :)

Getting to collect my teenage grandchild from school, having a real heart to heart on the way home and seeing that they are extremely happy and secure in themselves.

Was at a storytime session for 4 -5 year olds in the library with grandchild. The kids are asked if they want to sing and they tend to sing Nursery rhymes or simple songs
One small lad never has the courage to get up and sing , no problem he doesn't have to . Today he plucked up the courage and we all held our breathe to see which nursery rhyme he would sing
Small boy stood up and in a loud voice belted out George Ezras Shotgun !!
    Brilliant !!
