Eh.... Put spare on to get home.., get new tyres fitted which hopefully aren't ditch finder special....

Yeah, I'm just pissed off. I asked the fella behind the counter if I could do that, and I was told to do "whatever I want".

To be honest, it's a lot to do with his attitude more than anything else. He didn't mention that I had a dangerous fail to my face and when I went back to ask what could I do, he couldn't have been more unhelpful.

It's an advisory for below 3.0mm, which is when you should be changing them.

They're checked with a tyre depth gauge.

Really? I should have asked him to show me so cos it's not listed on the sheet I got back

Not a great idea driving about on tyres near the legal limit anyway I normally change them once they go under 3.0mm..

Cars been off the road for 18 months, was just getting an NCT before I take it back off the road again/sell it.

Just noticed that there is a problem with one of the CV joints too which the garage said they fixed.

Edit: Just bought new tyre and went back in so they would remove sticker. Said because the CV boot needed to be replaced, it would have to go back on lift to check I changed the tyre and they wouldn't take the sticker off or declare it not dangerous until I rebook

Any update on this? Wouldn't mind BT music streaming...

Did you get sorted? What head unit is in yours?

Car just failed NCT and got a "too dangerous to drive" sticker with a letter warning if I drive off they "could" call the Gardai.

    Why?

The thread depth is less than 1.6mm on one of my tyres.

Funnily enough the garage I brought it to last week said it was 1.7mm and thought it would be ok.

Interestingly, there is no value to say what the actual depth is, it seems to be just a visual test.
    Find a different garage...

Maybe the tyre wore down 0.1mm in the meantime!

Tell me about it. They replaced a steering rack which broke less than two weeks later and they also fixed the cv boot while they were at it (which also failed the NCT today). They are a fairly big and reputable garage but after the cv boot and my dealings with them recently, I won't be going back.

Anyone recommend a good Audi garage/independent near Ennis?

That link shows a way to code it with BimmerCode in expert mode even without nbt2. Haven’t tried it they myself but will give it a go tomorrow and let you know.

For some reason on the Mk7 Golf the coming home lights don't automatically come on when you get out of the car they would only come on if you pulled back on the headlight stalk before you got out of the car. Seemed like a bit of a backwards step (My 2008 Astra had the same feature) and was annoying as I would never think to pull the stalk. I managed to change it to being automatic using Carista its the small things that make the difference :)

Were your lights set to Auto?

Yes even when set to Auto you needed to pull the stalk stupid I know not sure why the mk7 was sent up like that. Leaving home lights work as normal unlock the car and the lights come on once the switch it set too Auto.

That’s weird, I know on the Octavia it’s an option on the touchscreen.

From earlier on in the year. Chronic depreciation.

Was driving the Leon around the place today and noticed something just seemed different about how others drivers / cars were acting around me. Didn't realise it until I got out of the car. It has L plates on it from the brother learning to drive in it. Its funny how some other drivers react when they see the plates some are more cautious and give you more lee way which it good. But then you get others which are more edgy just waiting for you to make a mistake so they can beep at you

Probably a few people thought look at the guy driving around on L plates on his own :pac:

Also first time in about two months driving a manual it is weird for the first minute or two but then it comes straight back to you. Funny I have always been fond of manuals and a lot of people that get a DSG / Auto car say they would never go back to manuals don't think I will ever be like that. It does really depend on the car and the type of driving you do as to which suits better.

Honestly dicks are just that, it doesn't matter what's on the car....

I'm getting tools flashing and putting on indictor to the right more then ever on dual carriageway or motorway....

I'm in no way slow and if I'm out in the overtaking lane then that's exactly what I'm doing.....

Like today doing 122 in a 100 and the guy passes me doing @least 130 then roads policing unit passes me, I was like oh he has to pull him but no he stays behind, passes then gets to their motorway pull in zone and reverse up onto it.

    Very aggressive driving out there....

Another thing that's getting beyond ridiculous is these tools pass you, pull in in front and slow down.

Then I must pass again as I've cruise on.... then again, then again

I think I overtook the same car 7 times on the way from Maynooth to Tullamore one day, absolute wreck the head.

Not unless you kept slowing down :)

In the DC2 when I had it on the road, some oul lad in an avensis kept putting the boot down anytime I went to overtake him. Flew past me initially and then slowed down and then any time I went to overtake doing the same speed I had been, he'd tear away and slow down again.
Did it a few times then I put the boot down when he tried again. About 20 mins later, there was a garda car waiting for me on the road.

    TL;DR People are assholes

Good I was just checking in in case I'm losing it as in I'm out there to get others....

Not yet but maybe in my 60s or 70s so be careful out there :-)

Had the same thing with a lad in a caddy, was driving a turbo starlet at the time eventually passed him and he absolutely sticks to my back bumper. Completely unnecessary

Lads I have a 162 Octavia that I got on PCP three years ago next month. Not sure whether to get a new car again on PCP or give this back and get a second hand car. Any advice?

Do you want to keep the 162 Octavia?
Do you want to pay the balloon?
Is there equity in the Octavia?
Does the Octavia suit your needs?
What's your budget to replace it if you go down that route?

I'd advice you to do whatever suits you and your finances.

Thanks! I'm happy enough to buy the Octavia outright but everyone I've talked to has said that it'll depreciate too much over the next few years so going PCP on a new car again is the better option.
