I wonder why some of the other people 'stung' by similar groups in the same way are let off, especially by Gardai

I thought this was going to be about the Secret Producer Twitter yoke.

I do not know if the UK do remission for good behaviour which reduces sentences but this should send out a warning to anyone using the internet to get sex.

Excellent. I wonder why some of the other people 'stung' by similar groups in the same way are let off, especially by Gardai

Something odd afoot there over the years alright re kids' rights in this land.

That judge Curtin and the expired warrant.

The Irish college guy Ó Lúbhlaí and the missing tape and transcript of the confession

    etc.

That is BEFORE we look at RCC cases.

Brits nailed the case here but they've also had high profile embarrassments with investigations of late.

Apparently they found a **** load of stuff on his laptop, he was chatting to 15-20 young girls and trying to blackmail them into sending pictures.

I wont be sad if he is cell mates with an English version of Bubba

Absolute filthy pig. I feel sorry for his family and especially his elderly mother who I’m led to believe is compleley and utterly heartbroken over this.

Now that the case is done and dusted here's the original sting of 55 year old former RTE producer Kieran Creaven by a group of self-styled pedophile hunters in Leeds.

Just about to say the same thing. I do feel very sorry for them and the shame that he has brought on them through no fault of their own. I'm sure their lives have changed utterly since he was caught.

I believe sex offenders are segregated from the rest of the inmates so the rape fantasies probably won't come through.

I feel sorry for his family, but for the man himself I am delighted with the sentence for this scumbag. It's a pity that if it were here, he would barely get a warning.

And we'd have absolutely no idea of his identity...

Brilliant how quickly the UK Courts dealt with this case , he would be still out on bail in Ireland

You can't convict people on what they might do.

You might pick up a shovel, and cave someone's skull in, but we don't imprison you for it.

I think it’s very lenient of the judge/courts. Think he should of got more in my opinion.

Oh I know. What I meant was he didn't physically abuse anyone and that's a bloody good thing. We know he's a grubby, dangerous, predatory f*cker and I'm glad he got caught and nobody was hurt. He looks like he knows he's ruined his life too. Delighted for the fool and I've no sympathy for him. Wouldn't say let's hang him though, that's a step too far.

Additionally, just after he was caught and his facebook was still active his trips abroad were from countries associated with child sex tourism

In the article it says that he plead guilty which the judge took into consideration during sentencing. Also something about them running concurrently.

Why do concurrent sentences exist at all can anyone tell me? It's like a ''commit one crime, get the second one free'' offer. I don't get it. Basically getting away with it.

Because prisons are busting at the seams. I'd love to farm some of the biggest scumbags out to the biggest **** hole prisons in the world. If they got out alive they'd never ever want to go back.

    Somewhere like Honduras.

The inmates run their joints, prison guards keep watch over the perimeter, they don't enter the actual prison.

So unless you have money or criminal connections the bosses are going to treat you like a slave for the duration of your sentence.

Yes but if I was on my way to someone's house with said shovel with the intention to cave someone's head in and got stopped at the door by cops, the crime was going to happen alright it just got stopped

On bail? The Gardai and PSNI are refusing to even charge anyone caught by vigilante gangs in this fashion, there has never been such a case before the courts north or south and probably never will be.

What disturbs me almost as much as his actions is the behavior of these vigilante groups who effectively stalk these predators. There is something disturbing, something that just doesn't sit right, with the almost gleeful satisfaction of seeing someone else's life ruined, albeit self-inflicted. I've seen some of the social media remarks and it is sickening.

I also think it is a class issue - the vigilantes all seem similar in background; certainly they are not middle class

Sexual abuse id a huge problem and the root of a lot of alcoholism, drug addiction and other self destructive behaviour among people. THe perpatrators are often former victims themselves and their moral compass has often been destroyed by other monsters in their past lives.

I do not know if they can be reformed or made not to repeat their behaviours but the Church made this mistake in moving paedophile priests around the place in the hope that they would reform and not repeat their deeds elsewhere. It seems that only constant and never ending supervision and confinement from general society and full disclosure to responsible members of society will prevent further offences, how to do this without exciting the anger of the rougher and less disciplined members of society, who might be tempted to resort to more sanguinary and rougher solutions to the problem, is a huge dilemma.

You need to be able to deny the more primitive urges in order to survive in the current climate. Any "protection" the privileged classes had in the past are long gone. People will not get away with wrong doing anymore.

You are almost as disturbed by these vigilante groups who catch paedophiles as you are about child molesting paedophiles?
    Thats an awful shame.

The church didn't make a mistake, they actively covered up crimes and didnt care that the paedophile priests continued abusing. If they did they would have done something about it after the first couple of times a priest had to be moved. They weren't hoping to reform the abuser, only make the problem in that particular area go away when the whispers got too loud.

1 year and a half?...... Is there any consideration given to child safety at all any more? Did he have to actually rape and brutalise a child like the Athlone case before a more appropriate sentence could be dished out?

The sick fúck should have got years not months. Intention with meeting a child to have sex with them and only 18 months???? Sickening

Be careful telling the truth around here about the crimes of the Roman church. Irks a lot of people for some reason.

Australia have brought in a law to deny passports to convicted child sex offenders. I think it's a great idea and think more countries should follow suit. It will make a big difference to abused children in countries that people travel to specifically to commit abuse.

Plenty of scumbags I'll wager among the paedophile hunters

They seem to attract riff raff to their ranks
