Hopefully not. Strike fear into any sheep farmer.

Ah it's pretty much guarranteed now for the east and southeast of Ireland possibly the entire island.
These are extremely low upper air temperatures coming and with it passing over the Irish sea added to that the air pressure, it's going to bring a lot of snow.

We'd be used to dealing with whatever weather comes, no point in worrying about what you can't control.
Nothing will be neglected because of it anyway

There was a good 4ft of snow in that video. Will we get that much snow ? Still hopeful we’ll escape some of it here in the Southwest.

Ah sure what about it. A few days of snow aintbtge end of the world. It's the cold I'd be worried about and that will dry the place so there's a silver lining in everything

You can ignore people you know but helping people with accurate forecasts based on ALL the data is about as far from disgraceful as I can think.

I’m glad my local farmers have the common sense to listen to those who know how to read weather data!

I can only imagine what it will be like in the Kerry mountains if half what is forecast actually happens.
Hope the farmers are trying to get the sheep in

I don't mind the cold, would prefer to be prepared for it than unprepared and shouting about not being warned!!!

Just stick on a jacket and bring in an extra bag of turf.

In the last bad snow IFA in Westmeath along with the Emegency services put together a database of names and mobile nos of farmers who volunteered to make their jeeps available to get doctors and nurses ''the last mile'' ie pick them up from a gritted road and bring them to houses that are inaccessible by conventional car. I wonder is that database still available, I think over 100 farmers put their names down .....covered the whole county anyway.
They used to get an army jeep from the barracks, but the barracks closed, it was a complete waste as it might only need four wheel drive for the few miles, so they looked to the local farmers

Well there's no drying in snow. :p

People are going on about the cold but I'd be more worried about the snow potential.
Then there's this low pressure coming up from the south colliding with the cold air on Friday that has potential for extremely heavy snowfall all over the country. There'll be a load of moisture in that one.

Can't understand the hostility for George but then I do only dip in and out now and again. He's only raising awareness.
Ye can access the weather forum and I'm sure everyone does.
Prophets never meet a good end in history. :p

Everyone in Wexford is prepared anyway.
I know some people who have contingency plans to stay in hotels in the towns here if it gets bad enough so that they can get to work.

If there is over 6 or 7 inches of snow ill be shocked. Wicklow and wexford might get that but across the country as a whole it wont be too bad id say

I Remember that. We had jeeps out everyday. Did many a run to the children's hospital them days with sick kids that needed dialysis

Keep an eye on the BBC and met office on YouTube clips they usually give a detailed forecast. Don't forget met eireann and they get their forecasts from the ecm model (which I have given links to on netweather and the weather outlook).
Check out the snow maps for your area to get some idea.

Just because anyone hasn't experienced a heavy snow in their lifetime doesn't mean it won't happen.
We still talk about people sledding off the roofs of houses down here.

Yes there is no drying in snow but there might only be 2 days of that and a week of drying leading up to it

No problem with George but he seems to be the one with an issue. I'm getting the impression that he believes we should be reacting in a certain way and if we don't then we are in denial

Starting Monday evening. 2 days away.
You'd be knocked down on the road here by a tractor such is the rush on.

Edit : just seen your edit. Ah his hearts in the right place. I gave up trying to warn ye here. ;) Instead trying to get more farmers turned into weather nerds by showing the way to the weather nerd sites online.
But then most farmers are weather nerds anyway.
    So hello fellow nerds.

don't think any farmers were volunteering for that commitment, it was only a days work for you, there wasn't enough jeeps anyway from the army, there's less now
Typical of the public service they only got their act together after the snow so no farmers were out and the database is probably lost now

Been dry here a good few days up to now. First spell in months. Course there is a rush on sure it's the first chance in ages to get the slurry out

A days work? I'll have ya know that I lost my van in a ditch one morning at 5am heading to bks to drive one of them kids to hospital. I left the van there after the bus sent out a jeep for me and continued on. Each day started at 6am and might not get back to bks till 8pm that night. No extra pay or overtime just doing what I believed to be right.

The army has enough jeeps for what we require them for as we ain't bus eireann. Mullingar bks had over 15 assorted 4x4s and all that weren't required for security purposes were out with the health services.

What do you mean about the public service getting the act together after the snow?

Prepare to be shocked so Ted... we're going to see double that before next weekend in wexford & Wicklow
    .
We got 14 inches in 2010 and this looks more potent .

Mullingar is gone now so it's down to athlone to handle everything

    I understand that I'm referring to 2010 not 2018

It's the government has to answer that one

Snow was over before the database was organised, there wasn't enough jeeps and that's why it was organised.
If a doctor couldn't get to a patient they'd get an army jeep, the jeep driver would probably drive to get the jeep and like you maybe put his car in the ditch himself.
The plan was that the doctor would drive as far as he could and a farmer nearby take him the rest of the way.
Bet you the database is lost

I think after a year it's outdated sure many persons on it might not even have a jeep anymore

wouldn't i cover a fair amount of sth westmeath, I could tell you 10 that signed up around here all still have them.
Once you have a jeep it's hard to go back
