What are your views on contraception?

I'm not looking for this to turn into any sort of abortion thread, I'm more curious about various christian groups and their views on contraception. This is related to the topic of the 8th but I don't want to see it derailed.

So, what christian religion are you and what are your views on contraception?
Do you believe the use of condoms, female condoms etc should be acceptable?, what are your views on the morning after pill?

If you are against contraception then what are your solutions to stop unplanned pregnancy's?
Also what are your views in relation to a married couple where one of the partners has aids, do you still think condom use in this situation is wrong?

Do you think that your religion (in cases of Catholics...the Vatican for example) should change with the needs and times and change its views on contraception?

If you're a Catholic you are not allowed to use rubbers, as you call them. Every act of intercourse must be open to the possibility of human life.

Given the failure rates associated with normal use of most contraceptives, then I'd say that acts involving condoms are open to the possibility of human life, it's just a lower probability than usual.

The only fail-safe method of contraception is abstinence.

Tell us, though, what about cases when the woman has had her womb or ovaries removed - there is no possibility of human life if she has intercourse. Does that mean she is not allowed to have it, even with her husband?

You have a very valid point there. We are called to show restraint, to bring our base animal instincts into check, and behave in sexual matters as befits sons and daughters of God.

Of course she is entitled to have sexual relations with her husband.

We are entitled to sexual activity which befits us as God's children. This means that the full ejaculation of the male must be deposited in the female. This naturally bans all sexual activity which results in the spillage of the ejaculation.

    What about anal sex?

Absolutely forbidden. This is the crime which cries out to the high heavens for Vengence.

The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in a body which does not conform with His Holy Will.

Oral sex is forbidden for it conforms to base animal instincts. I said that the FULL ejaculation must be deposited in the female vagina. You, as a son of God must rise above your animal nature, and become a co worker with Almighty God in His divine plan for procreation.

I think we’re seeing some serious and vigorous interpretations here.

In places scripture says an eye for an eye, if we take every single word literally there would be a hell of allot of blind people bumbling about, and yet there aren’t, because not every word needs to be taken literally, even the church see that would be foolish.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,253 ✭✭✭ouxbbkqtswdfaw

Foreplay is of course allowed, both man and woman are entitled to pleasure each other.

Well you can engage in oral sex as a precursor to intercourse.

Are you saying that couples should just go straight into intercourse without doing anything beforehand to get the mood going?

Obviously untrue. Think about the founder of the Christian church.

I said that foreplay is of course allowed.

But you also said oral sex is not allowed, I would consider oral sex to be part of foreplay.

Makes me wonder what other practices are frowned upon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,253 ✭✭✭ouxbbkqtswdfaw

Foreplay is of course allowed However, sexual activity ie oral sex is a debasement of proper sexual activity.

You are entitled to fondle by hand each others sexual organs, and other parts of the human body, but with the proviso that the full emission is deposited in the vagina, thus holding open the possibility of new life, should God desire it.

Well most foreplay is sexual activity so that doesn't really explain it.

What about sex toys? Role playing? Using porn?

Absolutely forbidden. Remember you are human, not animal. Respect yourself as a son or daughter of God, which you are, and rise above the morals of the animal.

So straight sex only, no fun stuff. Are female orgasms okay or is the sole function to reach ejaculation alone?

AFAIK animals don't do any of the things I mentioned.

    What do you mean?

Abstinence didn't prevent Mary becoming pregnant with Jesus.

What I mean by that is that you have a high calling given you by God to cooperate with Him in the momentous act of creating a human being.

Yes but not every sexual act is about creating a human, sometimes it's just for pleasure. Sometimes pregnancy isn't possible. If a woman is already pregnant for example, what's the problem with oral sex etc?

Yes, what you say is true. The problem with oral sex is, besides being a debasement of one of the partners, is that it results in the spillage of the sacred sperm.

    There’s no problem at all.

Lots of the over Interpretation from scripture is just a control mechanism to allow people be dominated and become sub servant.

Yes but if the sperm isn't needed because a pregnancy isn't possible it's okay right?

I have to tell that it is a very big problem. Furthermore, it is a sin, which must be confessed.

Still the sperm must end up in the woman.

    Back to the OP.

I'm an Evangelical Christian, and contraception is a very sensible idea as far as I'm concerned. I see no conflict whatsoever between contraception and a biblically grounded faith in Christ.

I will put it like this. You must be free of sin to enter the Kingdom of God. In order to do this Christ instituted the sacrament of penance. You don't have to detail every aspect of your illicit sexual activity. Just tell the Lord you are sorry for all the selfish things you did during sex.

A blow job isn't selfish, quite the opposite I would have thought.

Remember the list of those who will not enter the Kingdom of God. Fornicators are high on the list. A fornicator is one who sins against his own body.

    It's selfish for one partner.

It's like slapping God in the face.

Just messing. I don't see a lot wrong with it as a means of preventing unwanted pregnancies... Particularly for people who would make bad parents (drug/alcohol abusers, unstable or nonexistent relationships)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,495 ✭✭✭✭eviltwin

    It's selfish for one partner.

Only if you don't reciprocate. These kinds of things are not an alternative to sex, for most they are part of the build up. So no waste of sperm. Your sex life sounds dull Owen. You must sometimes long for more.

Masturbation is a grievous sin, which must be confessed. If not, such sinners will not enter the Kingdom of God. God has provided for legitimate release of aged sperm in the monthly wet dream.

When you say “tell the lord”
Have you conceded to my point on the confession thread that you didn’t answer that a just and forgiving god would hear My confession directly and so there would be no need for me to go to confession “locally”.
