He like me sees plenty of rain and can always wait !!!!!

I'm not only going by this one comment!!!!!

Previously, he said that we'd had a enough sun, let the floods begin.
I didn't sense sarcasm in that comment.

As it appears there will be a fairly dramatic drop in temperatures from next midweek, I wonder if there is a possibility that the low maximum and minimum August temperature records for Ireland could be broken?

As it appears there will be a fairly dramatic drop in temperatures from next midweek, I wonder if there is a possibility that the low maximum and minimum August temperature records for Ireland could be broken?

Here's Irish stations' record low air minimums for August:

    Station|Minimum temperature|Date
    Shannon Airport|2.8|18th Aug 1948
    Cork Airport|4.9|29th Aug 1963
    Malin Head|4.8|22nd Aug 1944

    Dunsany|1.5|30th Aug 2010
    Gurteen|0.6|30th Aug 2010
    Mullingar|2.1|31st Aug 1986

Don't know about the exact low maximum record for August in Ireland but here's some notably low ones I've found (randomly selected stations):

    Dublin Airport|13.4|24th Aug 1958
    Dublin Airport|13.2|31st Aug 1956
    Carlow (Oak Park)|11.8|25th Aug 1986
    Carlow (Oak Park)|12.6|26th Aug 1986
    Carlow (Oak Park)|13.0|14th Aug 1971
    Shannon Airport|13.0|23rd Aug 1986
    Shannon Airport|13.0|25th Aug 1986

Not bad at all here in Dublin today. Nothing to complain about, I wouldn't mind more of this sunshine/cloudy intervals type of weather.

It was mostly fine, with a small bit of cloud, the last few hours. The high temperature was 24.3C and with a breeze it was very pleasant.

Turned out a lovely evening here in south sligo. Amazing what a bit of brightness and sunlight can do. Hopefully more to come this weekend.

What an afternoon/evening in west cork (Rosscarbery area.. just for summer :) ) . Roasting all afternoon and such a beautiful clear evening. Mars is in full view and all the satellites are clear as day whizzing by and shooting stars in tow. Just wonderful. Nothing beats a clear country night in Rural Ireland.

All I remember from Charley was rain and the media focus. It must have been bad up the country for me to remember the name 31 years on.

I'm sure we've had worse in recent years?

Dirty morning. Don't know why, but was expecting a bit of sunshine..

I would gladly take a big Greenland high and an autumnal northerly at this stage, at least it would bring sunnier skies. This endless gloom is only eating up valuable time in the final third of summer.
Anyways, a warm summery August is about as likely as a cold February.

Oh yeah. I mean we never ever get snowy/cold weather in Feb/Mar in this country do we?
