Halal is a non-issue and there was no obligation for the government to allow for it, they did because they also believe it to be a non-issue i'm no fan of it myself, but as a meat eater i know that whichever method would be in place animals are being killed.

Halal is more than a system of killing animals. It is a whole system of dietry requirements, along with a taxations system. The taxation system is called Zakat or Halal certification where a producter pays 2% goss of their business. This isnt much? But it is charged at each stage of the product, such as production, storage, transportation and sale. So very easily to be Halal compliant you could be paying very easily 10% extra on your groceries to religion that you have no interest in. There is also a clause that you cannot advertise that you do pay certification

That means you cant come to Ireland and expect to change the education system which works perfectly well. The Food system which was our own and now has Halal implemented. ......

Halal has been on the books since the ultra liberal 1930's.

Refugees need to settled in similar countries. God forbid if there was nuclear disaster in Sellafield, if I was lucky enough to escape I would want to be settled in a country with similar culture, religion and tradition.

You do realise that the reason there are halal slaughterhouses here is for export? And it's been that way for decades.

And if there's a nuclear accident in sellafield I fully expect you to sit here until you start glowing rather than move to a country with a different culture.

49.5k...... that was a few years ago. Then you have to take into account the numbers who have "dissappeared" like in Germany and cannot be accounted for

    .

I also expect the surplus of these factories is dumped on the domestic market like in the UK? Also the retain bolt method is now gone and the stun and cut method is used now..... do you think that is much more humane? That is Halal.

Actually one of my relations is high up in beef insustry and any time I bring up the matter ... he wont talk about. You already have Halal hotels and such. The next move will be to medical devices and medicine. Seems like a lot of pandering to minute percentage of the population.

    From your link
We now have a very sizable Muslim population in Ireland, estimated at around 65,000 and predicted to grow to over 100,000 in the next five years or so.

About one third of Muslims here are immigrants and the rest are native Irish converts.

One third of 65k is 22k immigrants. Where does your 70k come from?

Not any more so than emigrants from other countries. I always hear the above trotted out as a reason why Irish illegals in the US should be allowed to stay legally. And it's always been rightfully rejected. It's jingoistic nonsense to think we distinguished ourselves in this regard. We overestimate our influence. On any historical infrastructure project you can think of, there were Irish, sure. But there was also Polish, Chinese and emigrants from countless other nations. The amazingly mixed ancestries of so many American I read about and know personally shows that many, many countries were involved in the building of the country.

Who were the ones building the railroads in the US, the Irish and yes the Chinese from the Western direction.
At the time of the railroad building there weren't that many of some groups that would later become very dominant e.g Italians.

Who were the navvies in Britain that built the canals and the railroads ?
    They weren't Chinese or Poles.

In 1850 the largest immigrant groups to the US were Irish and then German.
Around 1.8 million were Irish emigrants and 1.7 were German born.
By 1880 the Chinese had become a sizable group and they were treated abysmally.
It wasn't until around 1900 before Norwegians, Swedes, and Italians were providing a sizable proportion of the emigrants.
By 1910 there were large numbers of Russians and Italians arriving.
Poles could also be included around that time.

BTW it wasn't until the 20s and 30s before Italians were major emigrants to Australia.

The first sizable migration of Poles to Britain was circa WWII when Poles fled Nazi and Soviet invasion and they fought alongside the British.
Why not check out their contribution to say the Monte Casino battle ?

ROFL. There's not so much of it now, but back in 2008 when Irish people were leaving here in droves, the relevant regional forums here were full of questions about where in London/Sydney/Ackland/Ottawa the local Irish pub or GAA club was so they could meet up with other Irish people, and what areas had significant Irish populations already. Along with incessant moaning about how the bread/tea/beer/crisps weren't the same as back home etc. etc. and where was the local "Irish shop" where they could buy some delicacies to remind them of home.

Maybe if you knew anything about Irish emigration down through the years you might have learned that Irish pubs and clubs were meeting places for emigrants and also a huge networking opportunity where people got set up with accommodation and work.
If you knew anything about Irish emigration to Britain in the 40s, 50s, 60s then you would know guys got work through who they met in pubs and in clubs.
Sadly it led to lots of alcoholism as guys were often purposedly paid in the pub so that they would blow their earnings.

Oh and a lot of those emigrants to Britain, including many relatives of mine and a huge amount of people from the West worked damn hard, tried to insure their children got a good education and through their endeavours their children went on to become successes in the adopted country of their parents.
Likewise with the states and one has to just look down through the names that crop up in positions of power in the US and Australia to see where they hailed from.
You may review that rose tinted view. Irish were absolute scum in the USA and criminals in Australia. It took a generation or two to integrate. In a generation from now the kids of refugees should be integrating provided we don't create ghettos like Paris.

No the scum were the quislings who were able to stay at home because they turned in their own people to the magistrates, British army, RIC, and the local landlords.
They were the ones that took the soup, the ones that made sure every rebellion was doomed, the ones that ensured Ireland was always under the yoke of the British and the Anglo Irish gentry.

I am not a practicing catholic, nor a shinner but I am damn proud of what a lot of Irish people did to break free of one of the biggest empires in the world and try build a better life for themselves, their families and their people.
A lot of Irish people, especially from my part of the world, had to flee their place of birth to build that better life for their families.

And you have the audacity to then label them scum and criminals.

Even after we got independence the emigrants subsidised a huge chunk of people in this country.

I would bet that the traitors of yesteryear have a link to the quislings of today who it appears despise their fellow Irish.
More revisionism... Many protestants were integrated and provided great employment and were Irish and were wrongfully kangaroo courted off their land and in some cases burnt out or murdered.

These would have been the same protestants who had in the preceeding decades lorded over the catholic population, enjoying more protection under the law, more opportunities and most importantly a full belly and not the prospect of an American wake.

I lived in Baghdad in the 80's and ate nothing but Irish beef. The vast majority of the beef slaughtered here according to halal methods is exported to the middle east.

Also, some studies have shown that the halal methods of slaughter may actually cause less pain to animals.

Either way are you protesting against all animal mistreatment? I became a vegetarian because of animal mistreatment, especially fowl. I think you probably only care about stuff like that when Muslims are involved.

Man you have a lot to learn... I'd start with perhaps talking to some Irish protestants the majority of which didn't lord over anyone.... In fact we thought you a lot

No we should discriminate based on requirements and skills.
We should discriminate like we do when shopping, "Why dont we take home 5 sacks of potates home, Mummy?" "Because we dont need 5 sacks of pototes son"

That's a great point, it's a proven scientific fact that most immigrants add more to society than natives who wish to deny them access because of race, religion or Creed.

I work in science and I have never encountered anyone with the blinkered up the rá i hate the Brits attitude you have. In fact I mean no insult here but people with your views are usually bottom feeders. So well done in getting three degrees and not learning anything.

WOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!! Where did you get that up the RA vibe from? Or that Brit hating? You certainly read that completely wrong ...... polar opposite in fact. I love British culture, many of my friends are British, plus as for the "up the RA", I am ex FCA (years not there for the boots) and I wouldnt be caught dead with them who are pro-immigration.
