There is no longer any league game between Europe and Christmas (not for a few years anyway), so your solution only works if you move Europe by a week.

Either a league game at the beginning or the end of the block? There has been for years. 3 interpros at christmas is completely new this year. It suits us better to put the league game at the beginning but that's at the mercy of the calendar somewhat.
If you don't have two interpros in the Christmas period, you have to find another empty weekend somewhere in the already-packed season to make up for the lost game.

    I dunno. Worth it?
It's not absolutely essential, but there are benefits. And there also absolutely does not need to be an interpro on the new year's game, there's no problem at all with playing a league game then given travel is back up and running well in advance. Its just the IRFU don't want any of it to happen because they want to take the edge off the games as much as possible.

  • If that was truly a 2nd choice Leinster side, Fardy would be playing... Joe could quite easily pick that entire pack for the 6n....could be a bad day at the office for POM and Stander ...could end up wishing for the south of France yet.

We would quite honestly never hear the end of the moaning and whining if that pack got picked for a 6N game, stop.

And that's just from your good self :D

I like the games over Christmas. What they lack in intensity they make up for in show casing emerging talent.

It's like the half time mini games but for 80 minutes.

I will be multiquoating all the posts criticising Leo if Leinster win on Tuesday and repost them all the second I've stopped touching myself.

I'm just gonna keep this one for when you claim you're not contributing to this joke.

Leinster by 2, munster to have earls sent off in the first half for a tip tackle and Murray to go off injured.
Larmour to score a hat trick and Byrne to be 100% from the tee

    ;)

Glad to see someone getting the point of this thread anyway. :D

Nigel owens has had to fly to ireland today, spending xmas with John Lacey and his family in order to ref the game on tuesday.

Bad enough missing Christmas with your family but having to spend it with John Lacey??? That's cruel and unusual punishment...

One of Lacey's kids hesitates about picking up the tongs to take a slice of ham.

And still 13 internationals... youd swear it was a b&I cup team that was coming down!

Ah look no one is saying that.

We'd have a much stronger team if this was the B&I.

Yes, that's what I meant... second choice against Exeter, obvious really if you were paying attention.

Certainly a stronger team than last year, and kind of the strongest to come to thomond in a long time!

Genuinely think it could be a fantastic game tomorrow!

Nah. Not quite our B&I team but not our strongest team either.

Michael bent might have caps the same way noel reid does bit it doesn't really mean he is an "international " in the same way someone in 6 nations squad is

    Best possible team|Announced team
    McGrath | McGrath
    Cronin | Tracy
Furlong | Bent (Furlong on the bench)
    Toner | Toner
    Fardy | Ryan
Leavy | Murphy (Leavy at 7)
VdF | Leavy (VdF on the bench)
    Conan | Conan
    McGrath | JGP
    Byrne | Byrne
    Lowe | Lowe
    Henshaw | Henshaw
    Ringrose | ROL
    Who Knows? | Daly
    Kearney | Larmour

Two differences in the front row. Cronin has two broken teeth so I'm not surprised and Furlong is still on the bench.

One difference in the second row. Fardy's season ended at the end of July and started a new season for Leinster on September 1st. He was always going to be rested after Europe, regardless of the opposition.

It's almost our best possible backrow. If you swap Murphy with VdF on the bench and go 6. Leavy 7. VdF 8. Conan 20. Murphy, that's the best backrow we have left.

Byrne is the best outhalf we have that's not injured. I'd consider Lowe a first team player without all the Kolpak nonsense. Isa is getting old and won't play every game.

The only notable omissions are Luke, Ringrose and Kearney.

From memory, this is a strong team compared to the same fixture last year. We're still going to get absolutely hockeyed by Munster in Thomond Park though.

    Let the pashun begin!!

The pashun should begin now. Give it enough time to play out before it's swiftly ended today at approximately 15.27

    Great post.

In fairness, there hasn't been any complaints in the meeeja and the moaning here hasn't been nearly as bad as it was last year. I think it was a bit of a reflex and then people realised it's actually grand.

The problem Leinster have is not personnel but continuity. Some of these guys haven't played in weeks and the team has no experience playing as a unit. The individual players are all good enough for this game, but the collective will struggle.

    Munster by 7-10 points.

Posting the best possible team for today, again, completely misses the point. That's the flaw with the post. I don't think many people are really capable/willing to consider the criticisms so there's no point restating them. But its been discussed now and its gameday, so time to move on.

If the inconceivable happened and Munster did end up losing, I wonder who they'll have on to do the post match interviews....

Criticisms based on incorrect assumptions and alternative proposals that are so unworkable they're bordering on lunacy are not worth restating, so yes, let's move on.

Wardy in the Indo reckons Leo has given the match the respect it deserves this year, unlike last.

It's an exciting Leinster team with Ryan, Lowe and Lamour but can't see past Munster with the team they have out in Thomond

    But is Larmour ready??

He still doesn't have The Experience™

The best thing that could happen to Irish rugby today would be Larmour cutting loose. But he might decide he’s not ready yet for that and make the choice to spare Munster the embarrassment.
