Re: the action lap, wasn't that just one of the items they proposed to broadcasters in a meeting earlier this year? Has it even been agreed or confirmed by an official source that isn't some random bloke who got a selfie with Martin Brundle? I might just wait to see what changes they've actually made before condemning them.

"Action laps". This is F1. There's no "action laps". Just long term strategies.

Music during pitstops might be viable.

One thing about F1 though, when something isn't working, they are (reasonably) quick to change it back. Remember knock out qualifying?

    That Airwolf one is excellent!

I think the theme tune is a bit of a grower. Having looked at the 80's retro, I think once they have grpahics to go with it, and as the season progresses, it'll make hairs stand on the back of your neck.

By listening to it, it's essentially made to be talked over - I'd imagine that they'll be looping it on the grid of the USGP this year when making the driver announcements.

    *shudder*

Managed to last 32 seconds into the new intro.

My word, not my cup of tea at all. It came across a mix of the music used for American Sports Intros and Pirates of the Caribbean. Didn't get a racing sort of vibe off it but maybe that will change with time.

Obviously The Chain was great back on the BBC, but I used to love the RTE intros, can't find them online now but with Prodigy and Fat Boy Slim.

Not a full representation of the intro, but:

I always thought that this would make an excellent intro song - slow shots of tyres and cars passing, overheads of circuits and fans, switch to the lights going out just before the riff hits! Some electricity company is actually using it at the moment :D

    I'm rather lazy today
Just mute the Intro vids press play and then maximise

One positive of this new theme thing, that God awful "You could push it but got no brakes" intro thing from Setanta / Eir is gone.

    This too shall pass.

Yeah, that was terrible. Still not liking the new one though. Keep expecting a Transformer to burst through the graphics. :p

I'm really surprised that they don't have a solution to the halo being in the way of the onboard camera. It doesn't block much of the view of the road on most cars but it's not great.

It gives those who really want to be upset about the halo one more thing to get worked up about.

Does anyone remember some posters saying getting in the car would be difficult with the halo? They thought the drivers would need a step to climb over the the halo into the cockpit! Obviously, they just step over it and into the car like normal. But it shows the distance people are willing to go find problems with the halo. They should really solve the camera problem sooner rather than later.

From garage footage it appears that at least some of the drivers are using a step to get over the halo, maybe all of them are.

The over shoulder camera placement on the side of the air intake is clearly not compatible with the halo, it is extremely poor that this has been continued when most of the shot is of an expensive scaffolding pole. The higher camera position on top of the airbox is not badly obstructed so that one should be used instead.

I've certainly seen Hamilton using a set of steps to get into his car in the garage during free practice.
The halo isn't really an issue for the high level on board camera but the over the shoulder camera was a fantastic camera angle. Very much like actually sitting in a car.

Another season where cars just can't follow each other.

If you want to see fights on tracks, good overtakes then you need to be able to follow the car in front.

You can get within 1 second and then can go no more.

Overtaking these days is just DRS on long straights.

The backfired on you didn't it? I was the one who suggested that drivers might use steps to aid car entry... and they did as posters above have kindly educated you.

"For those who really want to be upset about the halo". Such an ignorant comment in so many ways and thankfully the last of yours I'll have to read.

Ok, one race in, 20 to go. I can see that when we get past half way through the season, with people taking their 4th and so on engine, it'll get too confusing during/after qualifying when all the penalities have to be applied. It'll be an absolute mess.

I can see Liberty doing something about that to 'Americanise' it and simplify it for the fans, which I would say wouldn't be a bad thing. Then, maybe we'll see proper racing without a care for preservation of the engine/gearbox.

Any one going to the French GP this year, it is held in the most beautiful place , South France, not far from Nice or Monaco

I didn't see anyone using a step or struggling to get into the car. I did see Hamilton who simply... stepped over and into the cockpit like a normal person.

Feel free to panic about getting into the car or whatever else upsets you about the halo.

^ the glare / shine from the visor would make identifying the drivers even tougher than halo. I don't know why they can't include the driver name in big letters on the body. I know the numbers are there, but people can't be expected to know 22 random numbers!

The one they tested in the states didn't have any glare, and they tested it under lights as well. I think the material they used to make it is different.
