I'm not digging that new tune.

That theme song is absolutely horrendous. Sounds so generic and not F1 at all.

Agree, I guess that's why they are calling it the 2018 theme, if people like it they can keep it, if not dump it

The F1 subscription service was briefly up for 64,99 Euro per year or 7.99 per month. But won't be ready for Melbourne it seems.

    Wow

Less than 6 euro a month when paid for year round. Way less than I was expecting.

Just renewed the parents account with HD package for the F1 and that's costing 12 a month. The package looks amazing with lots of historic races and docs on there too.

In another article from that website it mentions Sky will be providing the english commentary.

If I can stream to chromecast, there is no reason for me to keep the sky package (except maybe the country blockage) As F1 Fan with access to that offer, it is a no-brainer.

F1s new title music, made by Brian Tyler and I had to check straight away if he worked with Hans Zimmer or is involved in e.g. "two steps from hell" as it sounds exactly like them.

I don't dislike it, it has a certain "epicness" that fits well with the scenario (in that regards, yes, has a sort of a "superhero" feel, Marvel-like).

I still think that a more electronic or rock theme (The Truth from T-Square or the celebrated "The Chain", even Giorgio Moroder's "Never Ending Story") fits way better - these were chosen for a reason by Fuji TV and BBC...

Overheard Martin Brundle discussing some changes to the coverage. They've been asked to stop commentating for a lap to 3 minutes for an "action lap" with the new music playing. He didn't seem optimistic about it saying "3 minutes is a long time on TV"

    Sweet divine christ...

I hope Brundle breaks the rule.

That's very like the "Crank it up" section from nascar, No commentary for a lap or 2.. it works for Nascar as it's well.. Nascar, but It'll be a long time in an F1 race...

When I watched the new theme tune video I didn't have any strong opinion other than "Why the f*ck is this 3 minutes long?"

Me too and David Coulthard as well. If there is something interesting happening on the track I want to know and hear about it not hear a theme tune in the middle of a race. They can have that on before the race starts or after but not during the race unless the commentators can talk over it.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

However, if I recall correctly, they do the "crank it up" thing in Nascar when coming out of a caution period. It makes zero sense in F1.

Anyone else do this Quiz. I did. I got 7 out of 10 the first time and 10 out of 10 the second time.

Oh I’m amused by the whinging I’m not going to tell you to do anything.

For fans of the most adventurous and cutting edge sport in the world, some F1 fans are surprisingly opposed to change.

No. Just no. Bernie hasn't actually gone away. He's constantly stirring trouble at any opportunity.

He was talking up the breakaway formula recently. Would you believe he said a breakaway is viable because the problem with F1 is that it charges the race venues too much money.

He's part of the old generation who succeeded by loaded the young people up with debt, and he still wants to be in charge. Bernie and his peers need to go away and... ya know. Let the young people run F1.

Not really. Plenty of changes I'd be happy with. One which was mooted a while back was banning tyre-heaters. Massive change I would have been delighted with.

Are you happy with the change yeah?

Am I happy with which change? The action lap idea? I don't know. I haven't seen it in action and it seems fairly inconsequential. I imagine they will spend the lul until the first pitstop rehashing the action lap rather than trying to cram it into a single lap. In any case, you won't miss anything.

I do know some things though. For instance I know that Liberty Media knows more about entertainment then i do. I know F1 needs to move away from the stuffy smell of old folks home that it has gotten in the last while. So im happy to throw open the window and let some fresh air in. If it doesn't work they can always change it.

One thing about F1 though, when something isn't working, they are (reasonably) quick to change it back. Remember knock out qualifying?

    This too shall pass.

Just a point of information, that's not a song it's an instrumental piece.

That was during the Bernie era though[/quote]

Everything in modern history was during the Bernie era. What's your point?

Strictly speaking the Bernie era will still be felt until the contracts signed by tracks to pay exorbitant amounts to host races, expire. One real test of liberty media will be when they sign new contracts with tracks. Monza is always precarious. The fact that Silverstone puts on such a brilliant show for those who attend, and attracts more fans than almost any other track, and still loses money, is a scandal. It doesn't benefit anyone (except one guy)

They try a lot, and sometimes it fails, then it is reverted back or changed again. Nothing wrong with that.
