So do Mercedes rate Russell higher than Ocon? Or do you think Williams was given two options and went with a British driver?

I suppose Ocon or Kubica could still have a chance at Toro Ross seat.

Ocon could only get the chance to go to Toro Rosso if he leaves his Mercedes contract. Thats why Wehrlein is tipped to get that seat now he is free, although Kubica seems to a contender if he doesn't get the second Williams.

Putting Ocon into a Honda stable would probably help with his Mercedes knowledge but I doubt it will happen, Kubica was linked with it as well, I just hope Wehrlein doesn’t get it, the boy has an attitude.

Who was babysitting young Wolff? Hamilton? :pac:
I read this as "who was babysitting hamilton".

    Wehrlein/Kubica - Toro Rosso
    Sirotkin/Kubica - Williams

Seems the last two starting spots.

Ocon will have to just be Merc reserve, Markelov's dad issues means he'll probably stay as Renault test driver. Ericsson is staying as Sauber's 3rd. Hartley will probably just leave the sport as will Vandoorne.

The Tifosi certainly think Hamilton is a baby.

I presume you mean leave F1.
Hartley is only 28 and he is a very accomplished racing driver with a Le Mans win on his CV. The best years of his career may be ahead of him despite this year in F1.

Sorry but this ain't true. If you female and interested in motorsport at the lower levels you get sponsorship thrown at you. I have seen it first hand myself. They also get a load more coverage media wise as well.

DEO GRATIAS! You have absolutely no idea how glad I am that somebody with actual, first hand experience can prove me wrong on this. Thanks for saying that and confirming a sneaking doubt I had.
Makes sense. Based on results alone, how many of us would have heard of Danica Patrick if she was a man?

True enough - and that's a risk as well; Danica Patrick was doing well enough at the beginning of her Indycar career; Most likely she wouldn't have gone to be remembered as one of the greatest in the sport, but she could have probably won a few more races hadn't she let stardom effectively take central stage over her racing. She spent more time on TV sets, photo-shoots, ads and on magazine covers than on the track. Probably a lot more money in it than just racing so a smart choice on a personal level, yet still...
The problem is clearly that if only a tiny percentage of people entering motorsport are female, and only a tiny percentage of competitors make it to top formula such as F1, then obviously there's very little chance of women making it that far. The solution is to get more young girls interested in it. How though, I've no idea!

That is the classic "question nobody wants to ask" - why are girls not interested? It's not even a matter of costs - have a look at this picture of the finalists of a Forza Motorsport championship (click to expand):

    FMRC.jpg

What's immediately apparent from that picture? Now sure, we're talking about an online game - yet it's a driving game; Possibly the most popular driving game right now. It has very little access barriers (all you need is a 250 Euro console and the game itself), basically anybody can take part (many of the guys in the picture aren't exactly built like athletes, some probably aren't old enough to drive a real car :D), and yet zero female participation.

I'm seeing some women drivers are against the idea of the "Women Series", and I understand their point of view - segregation doesn't send the right message about motorsports being a gender-neutral discipline. Yet, if it helps getting more women in the loop...

Oh yeah thats all. He'll race again elsewhere. I'm mildly curious to see who will take the place of Kvyat in the Ferrari paddock. Theres no older experienced driver they can pluck up to partner Giuliano Alesi. Unless they pluck up whoever becomes the odd man out of Kubica/Wehrlein/Sirotkin? Thats why I thought initially Ericsson was moving to Ferrari when Giovinazzi was announced as their 2nd driver.

Tbh I'd say whatever deal was made between Mercedes and Williams would be quite a financial benefit to Williams anyway. Both their seats were available to buy and Merc probably just had a better position to get one of the seats given they supply the team their engine.

Leclerc, Gasly, Norris, Giovinazzi, Russell mean a lot of good youngsters on the grid next year. And Stroll is young aswell.

    Max is only 21 too.

Put Jos Verstappen in the Toro Rosso. Two Verstappens on the grid then.

Kubica must be worth a punt for Toro Rosso or Williams. It would give them lots of free coverage in the press and be a good news story. If it didn't work out, they could just replace him at the end of the season. I don't think it would be a huge risk for either team. Everybody likes a good underdog or comeback story. It gets people interested.

I don't see Kubica getting a drive at Williams or Toro Rosso next year.

If you wanted two verstappens, you could just have max and any of kobayashi, kyvat, maldonado.
    Same amount of sensless crashing.

I'd love Maldonado back. He guaranteed drama as you never knew what dumb shít he would do. Even before the race!

Must have been fcukin terrifying for a driver to see him coming up in their mirrors, (or even realise he was infront of them) :pac:

I didn't think Kobayashi crashed so much. He stood out for late overtaking and that will always go against you the odd time but I thought he was great to watch.

I still think Kyvat gets a hard time. Maybe if it didn;t involve the instances with Vettel, then I reckon people people wouldn't treat him in such a manner. I think Grosjean has had way more instances than Kyvat. Kobayashi shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentance as Maldondao (the grand prix winner).

Kobayashi was basically the inventor of the "Ricciardo dive", which should be called the Kobayashi dive. Indeed, he didn't really crash or was involved in nearly as many tips as the various Magnussens, Verstappens & C.

Actually, some of his dives would make DR crawl into a corner and cry :D

(most of these moves would have resulted in a crash had the other guy been Max...)

And he's turned into a fantastic sportscar driver.

I like grosjean in general because you never know what you get. He can be super quick so I think he deserves to be there but that spin he had earlier in the year where he gave it full pedal and spun himself into the following pack with associated cloud of tyre smoke was borderline suicidal.

And he's turned into a fantastic sportscar driver.

All his F1 crashes are really limited to an Australia start lap crash with broken front wing. Besides that he is most famous for crashing a Ferrari at a promo event in Moscow.

I agree he has done a couple of stupid moves but is a and very fast good driver. I think its great that Haas have decided to keep him next year and hopefully he will have a good year. It will either be his make it or break it year.

I see that Fomula 1 might be going to a new track in Vietnam in 2020 as well as a new track at Vandovert in Holland?

What are people's opinions on this?

I think the Vietnam one is too soon. Its still a very poor country and not many people there have cars. It could end up being another Turkey (see what I did there) with them pulling out after a few years.

Sure if Vietnam can have F1 come race there why not Ireland?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Vietnam would be another pointless exercise of "inclusion". We have enough races in place with zero racing history as we are today. Also, 21+ races per season are beyond excessive as is the season ending in December. Going back to a schedule of 16 to 18 races would be the easiest way to reduce costs...and environmental footprint, as the teams traveling the globe are bound to pollute more than 20 cars going around for a total of 7 hours over the week end.

As for an hypotetical race in Ireland...infrastructures aside or lack thereof, in terms of public it wouldn't be that far fetched, especially considering the substantial international community. Would need to be reasonably close to Dublin however and separated in time from other events...or the risk is that it'd end up like the Phoenix Grand Prix, with more people attending a nearby Ostrich festival than the GP. Can see this happening with something like the ploughing thing :D

Now, an E-Prix on the streets of Dublin, on the other hand, could be much easier to put in place...

^I'm just sitting here wondering where they'd put the pit garages if they aren't using the Phoenix Park.

Maybe if Brexit ends up being a gammon-brained sh*tshow, an Irish GP can survive by stealing the British GP's crowds.

Caved in and got F1 2018. Just crashed out of the lead as Vettel in my first race in Australia - seems like they've got the accuracy of this one down! :-)
