I see Thai Plus has gone from cutlery road. A pity as they did the best and biggest spice bag in the town. Replaced now by a Turkish Kebab place.

Ugh seriously! Loved that place their tofu black bean was amazing.

Don’t think so. It’s a large pipe that runs into Pairc Mhuire under the footpath between doctors and garden place (struggling for name of it). It the continues into Pairc Mhuire and goes up the centre of the road approaching the shop. Based on pipe size, I think it’s sewerage scheme. Can’t imagine Aldi would require a sewerage scheme upgrade for any reason.

On a side note, they need to do something with the Finlays site and in particular, hide that yard at one side of the garage as it looks like a ****hole.

The road between Pairc Mhuire and Highfield is now closed too. Coming from Highfield, it's blocked just after Spar. My brother was in my house earlier and as he left, he had to go to the main street. After going down Highfield he had to turn around, and then had to go as far as the cross at McLoughlin's since the road at Finlay's/Applegreen is also closed.

    'Tis a great set-up!

Went to Firecastle in Kildare today. Lovely breakfast and nice selection of products in the shop.
Pity that Newbridge has nothing to compare (UBH is good but doesn't open early enough and often changes the menu)

I think it’s over rated and over priced. I live in Kildare town and would rather drive to Hoky Poky in Newbridge for nicer food and better value

Does anyone know if Finlay’s still own the Apple green site and leasing it out or did sell it completely to Applegreen.
The old showroom is a big enough building to be left empty in that location.

applegreen was granted permission in 2018 to demolish the whole site and build a new modern petrol station and shop. It is currently under "APPEALED FINANCIAL". planning number 17256.

I don't think they are demolishing the whole site. The current shop is to be demolished and the showroom will become a food court and shop with just a few structural changes

So when they finally start, it won't take too long

Its odd they haven't proceeded. There seems to be an unquenchable thirst for service station amenities in this country. They all seem to be booming.

The athgarvan road is closing for November. Details in pic. Even with the current restrictions it'll be fun trying to drive around Newbridge.

The diagram isn’t very precise, but it would appear the closure may affect Lidl? And possibly the SuperValu entrance?

Thanks for the heads up, Casals.

You can drive into lidl coming from the Newbridge Silver direction but you can't continue past that. Likewise you can go into supervalue by driving past Dunnes but you can't drive any further so if you want to go into both you'll have to drive around the town. Still open for pedestrians.

Planning permission lodged with the kcc for bergins pharmacy to extend into the empty unit beside it.

They are already in the empty unit selling cosmetics while they wait for permission to extend into it. Probably closed now though with the current restrictions.

Supervalu are reconfiguring the store. They have moved the butchers, fruit/vegetables etc and have moved all the aisles etc. Looks like they will have much more products available than before.

Still working on this. The tills have been moved. Looks much better.

The burger king drive through is now opened.

For those of us that use Parcel Motel. The one at Brennan’s has moved to Tesco.

The Brennan’s one was split in two last year. Some.of us were moved to the new one at applegreen. I'm guessing the remainder is now moving to Tesco unit. I have yet to use the An Post one outside the post office itself. Have used that service (parcel wizard) and colleted inside the post office. Takes a little longer than parcel motel. Used it for a higher value item.

Have used addresspal for aftershave that amazon wouldn't deliver. Was handy, but just found parcel motel first, so got used to that. Thought it was odd when they said they were moving to Tesco with the applegreen extremely close. Will probably be transferred to tesco too in the end, unless it's getting over capacity traffic

The works were removed today and you could drive straight through as normal.

I had seen planning for this up some years ago but finally looks like its going ahead. Probably needed in that area and will be a good addition for the residents of Station walk, The Meadows and The Paddocks.

Great news but a strange time to be building something like that considering the way the world is at the moment

Ah it's not really, the permission should have been granted for it first time round - 10 or more years ago!

A petrol station and shop out there will take huge pressure off the town, it's been badly needed since the estates were built the far side of the railway, with another 200+ being built at the moment it will definitely be used.

Builders have started work on converting the former arch bar on main Street into a Chinese restaurant and takeaway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Cazale

Oscar House Artisan Wood Fire Pizza & Takeaway has opened at the Old Oscar Cinema. Looks well!

Another new place opening on Henry Street called fire and smoke.

3 new eateries either here or coming. Nice, but we still need a really decent restaurant, when all this CV19 hullabaloo is over. And by nice, I'm referring to ala Hanged Man or Brown Bear.

    Progress on the Aldi build.

Agree. Surely there is no need for any more takeaways in Newbridge now. A couple of nice restaurants serving good food would do very well IMO. What is going into where the old xtra vsion was?
