NZ have named their squad with 20 year old hooker Asafo Aumua the uncapped player most of note. Don’t think he’s played super rugby yet but at U20 and Mitre 10 he looks a talent.

We see if the SH can restore some pride. Folau not touring with Aussie is a pity.

I declare this thread a safe space from the gum-bumping feckwittery that will infest the Ireland thread!

Wiki says New Zealand will play "France XV", is that some weird non test match type scenario?

Italy have Fiji, Argentina and South Africa - if the improvement in their clubs are anything to go on, we could see them pick up at least one, if not two wins there.

The XV stands for how many millions France are going to 'lend' NZRU if they vote for France 2023.

Or how many millions they give to their academy. Otherwise known as Fiji ;)

France are playing New Zealand on 11 November in a test and again on Tuesday the 14th in a non test match South Africa on the 18th and Japan on the 25th.

Whats Aumua's all round game like? Obviously his highlight reel is impressive but barnstorming runs aren't always enough at top level.

Don’t know a lot about him. I saw some of the U20 and that’s about it. But he’s consistently got rave reviews and it’s unusual for Hansen to select a player uncapped in Super Rugby. In the worst case if he can’t scrum or throw he can be put on the wing!

Any news on TV coverage of France and Italy tests? No reference to them on either BT Sports or Premier (UK equivalent of Eir Sports) websites.

Wales squad for the autumn internationals

    Forwards: N Smith, R Evans, W Jones; T Francis, S Lee, L Brown; K Dacey, K Owens, E Dee; J Ball, AW Jones, S Davies, A Beard, C Hill; J Tipuric, S Cross, D Lydiate, T Faletau, A Shingler, J Navidi.

    Backs: G Davies, R Webb, A Davies; D Biggar, R Patchell, R Priestland, O Williams; H Parkes, O Watkin, J Davies, T Morgan; A Cuthbert, S Evans, H Amos; L Williams, L Halfpenny.

Priestland is back in at the expense of Sam Davies, Owen Williams also in as the fourth out-half. Scott Williams and Jamie Roberts miss out.

North is injured, hopefully Steff Evans gets a run.

A real left field pick in Sam Cross, one game for the Ospreys. I think it was his first 80min game in a couple of years. He was a star of the 7 circuit for Wales and GB.
The picks certainly seem to indicate a change in Gatlands tactics. Presumably he will be going with a ball playing 12 with 4 OHs in the squad

    Or Parkes at 12?

EDIT: Just remembered he's not elligible until December

Scott Williams' star really has fallen. A victim of Warren Ball?

A who's who of ex-NZ Super Rugby centres set to make debuts for their adopted countries

    Phil Burleigh - Scotland
    Hadleigh Parkes - Wales
    ?Bundee Aki - Ireland

I would firmly class the first 2 as journeymen, and I'm surprised Scotland and Wales need them - both countries have better centres available IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Parkes is a very good player. He's not a superstar but he excels in multiple areas both at 12 and on the wing. Could end up being Wales' Jared Payne.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,072 ✭✭✭Yeah_Right

Parkes is a poor man's Jarod Payne. A decent pro but I can't believe Wales don't have better options in the midfield.

Scott Williams and Jamie Roberts miss out.

That would appear to be that for Jamie Roberts international career.

He is unbelievable In contact about as quick as Jordan larmour and has the hands of a halfback , also is exceptional in scrum and line out .. best prospect at 20 years old in the world right now bar reiko ioane .

NZ probables 0 vs NZ possibles 5

I find the BaaBaas concept a bit lame, when they are so full of Kiwis, it kind of defeats the point.

Agreed. But it's entertaining! Especially after the Pro14 matches so far this weekend.

It's a bit of a NZ B side, but jeepers they wouldn't want to ship a loss to the BaaBaas. Especially with 5 or so BaaBaas players joining up with NZ after the match...

Burleigh is a very strange choice, dont think, the Edinburgh fans rate him, then again they don't rate much.

That baa baa 7 plays like a back in attack.

Also looks about 40, very retro with that moustache !

More than one occasion that an All Black try has gone begging because a player hasn't passed. Strange stuff.

Heading to Paris this weekend to watch the ABs. Never been to a match there before. Does anyone know of a good pub near the ground to watch the Ireland v SA games beforehand?

Looking at the Eirsport 2 schedule, they have the Rugby League WC and Nascar on in that time slot. Eirsport 1 showing is snooker for the night.

Sky guide is showing the rugby on Eirsport 2 straight after Samoa v Scotland in League.
