Good inputs. I do think that there's more light at the end of the tunnel this time around, but I will concede Pat is under pressure to deliver sooner rather than later. Dropping in more U20s is an option but you'd be afraid of the roasting they could get until they are established players. Look at last years U20 final where Offaly's Screeney was playing a blinder, Cork upped the ante physically in the second half and that was that. That could be what awaits some of out U20s when it comes to tackling the physicality of Limerick, Clare, Tipp, Galway, KK, etc at championship time. That could be an even uglier sight.

Tactically? We're not at the races at the moment. I think we can now handle physical teams, but when we dish it out we get someone sent off. We probably need to hunt in packs a bit more like other teams to disrupt, maul, second arm, and so on- but that was never Cork's style. We also cannot handle when other teams get cute… see Clare's last few minutes antics of dragging players down and disrupting the game. All that is up to the sideline to get players prepped, and by the way Cork management need to start reminding the refs to play a manly game etc before the games, or maybe Clare are just a bloody good team and we were always going to be a point or two behind. Anyway, what the hell do I know, I never got as far as playing for Cork. Onwards and upwards.

We were a puck of the ball away from making it out of Munster last year. We didn't have much luck against Clare last Sunday either!

I'd like to there's a big performance in us against Limerick. Obviously they'll be huge favourites, but i'd like to think we'll at least make them work for the win.

We haven't beaten Limerick in the championship since 2019, so it would be nice to get that monkey off our backs!

It would be the best feeling in the world if we got totally written off the weekend nobody gave them a hope and Cork then came out and won comprehensively. Carlsberg don't do dreams but if they did this would be up there with the best.

We'll need Limerick to have an off day and for us to play out of our skins to topple them. We did give them a game last year, but it was a case of close but no cigar at the end of the day unfortunately!

Tipp 2-10 Cork 0-7 HT. Cork mistakes punished for both goals. We have hit some poor wides too

Very poor first half from Cork. It looks like we are going through the motions. Load of really bad wides killing us and the gap is very large now

  • Registered Users Posts: 559 ✭✭✭Corcaigh84

O'Regan isn't a centre back, and they are all guilty of taking greedy pot shots from 45+ yards without a thought for the inside line. Leahy having an off day on frees isn't helping either.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Buckley taken out there. Weird how there was no free.

We should be just going for goals now. Use it as practice for the next day.

We keep shooting from way too far out and missing. The whole game its been happening

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭Seadin

Lads this has been a right collapse of a performance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,439 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Yes its a really bad performance all round. Crazy shot selections non stop, bad tackling and just generally second to the ball every time.

I think they might meet again. Hopefully the result will be different

might calm the calls for O'Connor to be next senior manager for a while

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,377 ✭✭✭Seadin

I was thinking the same thing. I actually don't know what is the solution.

Poor performance but being qualified already had a part to play I'm sure.

Once they hit knockout I'm sure the performances will be better.

The U20's have had a stellar few years and throwing any doubt on O'Connor based on tonight needs to be tempered with the the previous performances , which seem very easily forgotten by a few.

  • Registered Users Posts: 559 ✭✭✭Corcaigh84

Tipp's first touch overall was about a 9/10 whereas ours was woeful, we came out of most rucks without the ball (just like the Seniors) and we tend to be far less cute trying to retain possession - ie jabbing the ball too high and letting a Tipp man get flick in. In contrast we can't seem to tackle correctly, and didn't identify the ref blew against the defenders every single time they stood up their man.

I would have found the incident hilarious when the ref heard the Tipp man hit his hurley off our No. 5's stick but gave a free in to Tipp - but by then we were 4 goals down. Serious increase in effort needed the next day.

Pat Ryans previous efforts at both club and intercounty have been forgotten by a few lately too. Not saying he should have the job for as long as he wants or that results dont matter but he was the best candidate by far at the time and he should get our full support while in the job.

If you are not good enough you are not good enough, plain and simple.

Club history matters very little v intercounty history.

O'Connors v Ryan's is a bit chalk and cheese currently.

With regards to Pat Ryan and this he needs our full support thing, well results and performances will dictate that i'm afraid.

If it's another group stage exit with just one or two championship wins this year, then alarm bells will be ringing.

He has been unlucky at times for sure, but i think getting out of the group stage at the very least should be the bare minimum requirement of a Cork manager.

He has a good track record at u20 level but senior level is a totally and utterly different ball game to u20 level altogether.

Both codes need be seriously looked at and how we devlop players.

Doing something right in Hurling in fairness. Would not worry too much about last night as hopefully saving a few gears for later.

I would give Ryan much more time had he picked younger players coming through but that been the stark thing about his selections this season, with no u20 player from last two years making the cut. Big question mark right there.

We have a bigger task at our hands now with the result of the Tipp v Waterford game. Can't see us turning this one around. Cant see us beating Limerick. I am not expecting anything only a loss so can't get myself excited enough to go and watch the game.

I agree. The standards arent good enough and until this improves we aren't going to be winning All Irelands anytime soon. Whoever is in charge of developing the underage players isn't doing a good job. We are accepting mediocrity in Cork GAA for at least 3 decades now and nobody is bold enough to challenge the setup and say come on lads enough is enough let's do what it takes to get Cork GAA back winning again in both codes.

would it not be better if he was allowed to operate a transitional period , he after all was the u20 manager for most of them victorys , he looked like a man under pressure over in cusack park in February let alone last week ,

all of this is assuming the limerick game goes away from ye , looking at facts , we probably should have beaten limerick in week 1 , we beat ye in week two narrowly , which was a much improved performance from the previous week on your part, so next week is still all to play for

but if limerick win surly the sensible thing to do is to use the tipp game as the starting point for a transition that will also take place over the Couse of next year , and realistically set a target of 2027 onwards for success , the conveyor belt is still running at underage level too but its no point saying the future is bright if you are not going to properly give players a chance , its exactly what we done in 2011 and 2012 before 2013

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,878 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

would cork supporters allow for a period of transition over the next few years and maybe one or two bad results along the way in order for long term success , you have had a lot of really good under age sucess latley

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,938 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

For some reason i'm confident enough we'll put in a performance against Limerick next week.

Whether it'll be good enough to win i don't know, but if we are down to our last two games for the year then at least go out with a bang.

tommy walsh said it last week in commentary no one in munster has ever got 8 points in one campaign , to me this is a banana skin for limerick

  • Registered Users Posts: 610 ✭✭✭sportsfan90

    Tipp did it in 2019.
The last time Cork got blown away in a match was against Limerick in the first round of 2022. Since then Cork have lost 6 matches, but the biggest losing margin was 3 points. So while very competitive in every game, they’ve struggled to get over the line in tight matches.

i am no good for stats the tin foil people must have been right , ever since that vaccination my memory has gone to mush 🤣

Unfortunately Tipp couldn't do us a favour against Waterford. Defeat to Limerick next Saturday and the show is over for 2024, and it will be official that our wait for Liam McCarthy will extend into it's 20th year. And we thought at the time, that 1990 to 1999 was going to be our last lengthy all Ireland drought!

We're all desperate for that all Ireland at this stage, but we may have to wait another couple of years yet. The step up to senior level might be tough but 2025 needs to be all about integrating a fair few of the U20 players into the senior panel.

Beat Limerick though and we live to fight another day. The players need to be ready for this, Limerick are coming down to bury us next Saturday. It's going to take by far our best performance of the year to beat them.

But Tip did do us a favour. Had Waterford won, Cork were out. Win 2 games and hope Waterford lose their next 2 and we qualify.
