So you’re admitting they were personal comments?

any chance certain poster stop getting into games of tennis with other certain posters - or maybe do this on PM? All this does is shut the thread down for everyone else why Mods review and hand out bans! Its a bit unfair on the rest of us.

No I'm accepting you took them as personal. Considering you mention them in every second reply to me it's hard to think anything else.

Unbelievable. Both Newstalk Breakfast and Ciara Kelly pushing the agenda today that women are being discriminated against simply by virtue of the fact they bear children and cant have it all. Almost ALL texters on both shows clearly showed NO support for the Newstalk agenda. Texters were saying actually we have evolved, we share the chores, the housekeeping, the childminding, we both have jobs. If a child is sick we take it in turns to leave work.

Why oh why are Newstalk absolutely intent on pushing this agenda down our throats. They try and portray the image that women are helpless, downtrodden, victims with no voice and no redress against discrimination and men are rapists and predators. Its hugely damaging to society and especially to the views of younger people.

We have never had it so good. Women are not weak and helpless and most women I know don't see themselves as such. We have so many choices. Why are Newstalk and especially Ciara Kelly doing this!!

On a separate note why does Ciara Kelly make EVERY SINGLE topic about her? She spends so much time debating issues with ...."Well I feel this, or I feel that, I do this, I do that, me me me me me me me me I I I I I I I I I I I I I... I'm a doctor, I'm a woman, I'm bolshie, I'm extrovert" etc etc etc

And this is by no means a new thing. When my first two were born 23 and 17 yrs ago respectively, my OH worked 4 midnight or midnight to 8. I would have done 75% of what needed to be done. There were no shortage of other men doing the same or similar.

Are you even listening to the show today?
I just listened to it during lunch and heard two male guests speak about the difficulty of making friends later in life which was part of the topic on information that only 1 in 6 men have close personal friendships.

They also spoke about how it is clear that many men do housework now amongst various other chores without any hint that it is rare or unbelievable.

She also stated that even though there is a common message that women have it so bad yet there is clear evidence that women overall have a better quality of life.

Stop trying to be perpetually offended.

I am not perpetually offended. I have nothing to be offended by. I am in my early fifties with 2 daughters of 33 and 27 who are strong independant women living and working abroad. I might add they have never been sexually harrassed, whistled at, or groped - and if they were they dealt with it.

Women now have so many more choices yet the agenda now seems to be to brainwash so many into thinking how bad things are and how tough it is for women. I have no issues as I am long past the child minding stage. But I strongly object to the narrative of women being victims and the amount of male bashing on Newstalk lately.
Interviews saying how tough women find it at home rearing children.. We all did that, with far less recognition. I myself felt blessed to be able to do it. As a mother who lost a child to cancer (when I was still in my twenties) I would say I didn't even have enough time , it went too quickly and spending time with my kids whether it was lonely or not is something I will never regret. Life is tough, end of.

It's a general current affairs/magazine show. It's not the suffragette hour it's made out to be. Nor is Newstalk such a station.

Moncrieff is doing this women panel in relation to the Red C Women survey going on in NT.
I've noticed a few times now how any message from a listener that doesn't agree with the panelists' point of view is kind of scornfully brushed off. (something that actually happens regardless of the theme discussed anyway, women or global warming)

I'm guessing is this NT's guideline?

Unfortunetaly this is the case, Newstalk is an overtly anti-male broadcaster and makes no apology for it.

It's not. I think it's more a reflection on the listener that they feel that way than the broadcaster themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,394 ✭✭✭✭Hurrache

I've said it so many times. You're talking about a show in which the content is pretty much anything that the host wants to discuss. She's a woman so it's only natural for it to be top heavy with the topics that appear on it.

To say all of Newstalk has an anti-male agenda is hysterics.

Let me guess, someone else unhappy that Donald Trumps views on global warming are being discarded.

That's not a Newstalk guideline. It's called science.

She made me laugh today. She was say something Like her house is 100 years old stone house with no insulation. Within minutes she states to her guest that she doesn't put her heating on till November!

With the amount of hot air she produces I'd say that accurate 🀣

I said global warming totally randomly. May as well have said the price of a pint, cute puppies or road rage

Has anyone else noticed that 9 times out of 10, if there is a male contributor on that instead of saying you're correct or such it's "you're not wrong". It kind of implies that your right but I don't fully agree with you or something. It's the tone it's said with aswell. I dunno, maybe it's nothing.

    Slightly off topic.
Hooks last show this morning. He introduced Ciara as "my good friend". Without looking for a new debate he could have called here anything he wanted on his last show. It doesn't seem to me that he believes that his good friend stabbed him in the back.

Was it not Chris O'Donaghue and others? Vaguely recall her saying she was friends with Hook

Some would have you believe that she stabbed him in the back but this is the second time he's had her on as a guest. He could have introduced her in many different ways today but the words he chose were "my good friend".

I have also heard her say that they are friends a few times.

Some people see people who speak their mind as being rude I guess.

Only when Person A disagrees with Person B.

Will be interesting to see how some people who refer to Newstalk media as being feminist/left wing etc react when Peter Casey is broadcast.

Casey isn't getting his own show. I wouldn't say Caseys views are much different to Hooks either.

a lot of cry-babies on this thread think that Ciara "stabbed him in the back".
More than a year on and still frothing with rage at their keyboards over their precious George and looking to blame anyone and anything for what he brought on himself.

Ciaras stance on medical professionals calling patients pet or love has left me scratching my head. While I agree with her position I do remember her pulling up an English guy live on air stating "I'm not your love". Her comments today aren't in line with how she treated that English chap.

I'm wondering if she believes it's ok for a female to use the terms with men but not the other way around.
