Ah when Ray started out he was grand... It was only when he got into a relationship and then fatherhood did he torn into a sanctimonious curmudgeon

It's poor Jenny I feel sorry for.
Despite ray's feminism the minute they had kids he made her give up her job to stay at home

I'd have no doubt that that particular decision was more based on the fact that Ray has more earning potential than her. As incredible as that sounds on reading it back to one's self.

I think every single show Gerry Ryan did was “live and unscripted” and he didn’t go on about it! He did what he liked , let callers go on, had the confidence to go with the flow and created mad, great, random radio as a result. He was brilliant at what he did because he was a natural, he didn’t have to try.

Ciara is not a natural, she is trying to be cool, trying to be new, trying to be liked, trying to be the femenazi , yet trying to be PC.

Gerry just didn’t give a damn and let the show roll , you never knew what was coming next or what twists and turns the conversations would take........now THATS unscripted. He had that confidence. There’s nobody like him on radio these days .

Gerry was the Maradona of radio an absolute genius. He could cover any topic under the sun. Very few people have that ability.
I mentioned in an earlier post that I think the fun has gone out of radio, well Gerry had it in spades.
Ciara is fine covering general /social topics but rarely goes of the beaten track which makes for quite a repetitive show in my opinion, I'm not having a go at her as l think it hampers most broadcasters working in Irish radio apart from Pat Kenny who like Gerry can dip his toe into any topic, alas they're few and far between

I wonder is that because of the changing attitudes in the media, what can and can't be said. People seem to have less freedom now to voice an opinion on radio, or in print, or online, anywhere public at all I guess.

It's like it's becoming illegal to offend somebody. It's very frustrating to watch it all develop before our very eyes. I believe it's a vocal minority driving this as most people you'd meet think it's all getting a bit mad.

    Probably right.

There's many things that could be said or joked at on the radio or in TV programmes a decade ago that simply wouldn't be allowed now.

Big shake up happening in newstalk over the next few weeks, seemingly Ciara is moving to weekend slot too many people turning off during the day unsurprisingly.

Any source for that? Are Pat Kenny and Breakfast joining her.

    Can I suggest:
Move Ciara Kelly, Jonathan Healy and Kieran Cuddihy to a new weekend show called "Social Justice Saturday".

Jeez I find that hard to believe Charles. Bobby Kerr's voice is very hard to listen to. I know he was sick and that's terrible, but I have to turn off when he's on. Always sounds like he's just waking up from a wedding the night before. Do you have any grounds for saying this or is this conjecture?

Are you sure? He gave up his Late Breakfast show on Sundays only last February saying...
“I have loved my time on Bobby’s Late Breakfast, but given my expanding range of business interests and board commitments – for DIT’s Foundation and the Cliffs of Moher Centre amongst others – I have decided to reprioritise. It has been great to wake up the country on Sunday mornings, but I won’t lie, a Saturday night out and a Sunday morning lie in beckons.”

Be very surprised to see that happen.

Bobby is ok at what he does but is most comfortable discussing everything in the context of business, profit and loss, margins, staffing issues etc. Can't see him having the range to discuss current affairs.

Also, this was what he said in February when reducing his workload at the weekend.

Just heard a promo for tomorrow's show. They will be talking about this story:
Three American students rescued from base of cliff in Co Kerry

Ciara said "given the story about three women on vacation who were interrupted by toxic men who inappropriately touched them and tied them up with up with ropes, should all men be banned from carrying ropes. I want to know what you think. Well, I don't really but I at least want to present that facade, but we all know only my opinion counts"

Charles, I hope for your sake that wasn't a troll.

A few things have been said in this forum recently that seem to have been totally made-up.

You really should pay attention to what she says as opposed to this type of fantasy world. She regularly holds a position which is the polar opposite to the picture painted of her on this thread.

I think this tells us more about your frustrations around women than anything about the programme.

And here's me spending all this money on a therapist. Thank you for your armchair back of the envelope diagnosis.

Also I want to know more about the whole Ciara Kelly moved to the weekends thing. Is there any basis for this suggestion?

It was a late April fools joke me thinks. She's pulling in big numbers on the lunchtime slot why would they demote her to weekend?

    None.

Mod - I don't know what's going on lately, but more than once on this forum recently (and by more than one poster), people have posted news stories that appear completely made up.

Someone else did it earlier on this thread as a joke, and that's completely different. But if anyone starts doing that again for attention, don't act surprised to be banned.

Regardless of his popularity, his voice his like sandpaper - to my ears anyway.

    .

He's not even great at that tbh. He gives out some terrible advice.

Bobby did Breakfast business on Monday. Sounded terrible. He seems like a nice guy but he doesn't have a voice for radio.

Yeah I heard it. It was absolutely ridiculous that they would even put him on air sounding like that. He's bad enough normally, but he sounded like he was on death's door on Monday morning.

Isn't he recovering from throat cancer?

He is. I haven't heard him recently but his voice is raspier after the cancer treatment. He doesn't need to radio for financial reasons and I think he has some other projects. I can't see why he would want to commit to more regular broadcasting. Especially early in the morning.
