What really annoys me is the likes of Arkham Knight that had the 'true' ending attached to the collection of all 243 Riddler trophies. Fúck that shíte...

Ignoring how disgustingly broken Arkham Knight was on release, it was actually a pretty good game and imo one of the best of the series.

However, those stupid Riddler trophies and the over reliance on the Batmobile totally ruined it. I ended up going on Youtube to get the ending.

Totally agree with the riddler trophies however I really enjoyed the batmobile stuff! It's my favourite game in the series

They went from one of the biggest and most respected names in the industry to absolute dirt in basically weeks.

Konami is the only game company I actively cannot stand and it's only for one reason. Pachinko MGS3.

My favourite game ever with gloriously remade cutscenes and all for use in a fúcking pachinko machine. Just imagine a full remake looking like that. Stealthing your way through a lush jungle environment. The Shagohod chase scene. The final stand with The Boss in the field of white lilies.

Instead we get cockteased by Japanese slot machines. "Why are we still here? Just to suffer?"

All they had to do to make a bit a sh*tload of money after Kojima left was a remake of MGS3 with those graphics. That's all they had to do. Remake game with Fox Engine from MGSV, and make the cutscenes look like the Pachinko thing.

    Metal Gear f*cking Survive....

I mean, they must have run the numbers and presumed there was more money to be made out of these pachinko machines than new iterations of Brand X, right? I don't believe a Japanese company is that slipshod or disorganised that they hadn't at least figured out if it was financially worth the blow-back...

I'm sure they made kajillions off Pachinko machines. I think that's changed though as there was some change in regulations which affected them. Never read too much into it though so not completely sure.

Biggest part of their revenue is still traditional games, and they make more from their gyms than they do from their gambling and traditional arcade games combined.

It isn't a matter of a new metal gear game or a new Pachinko machine.

I don't feel that I'm missing out by not playing for trophies as my time is limited, is this common?

I have a feeling it's mostly young fellas collecting trophies as they squeeze every bit of value out of the game, as I would have at that age :-)

You’re not "missing out" in the same way that people who do like collecting trophies are not losing time. Trophies are an excuse to spend more time with a game you enjoy, nothing more or less.

I work full time and game when I can or on my days off. Platinums can take a week or several months depending on the game but I can take as much time as I please because the other games in the backlog are not running anywhere. I think people who feel like they don’t have enough time to game unwittingly impose this restriction on themselves by feeling like they need to get through loads of games in a short amount of time to "clear the backlog", as it were. You don't.

You have more time than you think you do. If a game takes a month or year to platinum it does not matter as long as you’re still enjoying it. In some cases, going for platinums gave me an excuse to replay a game I hadn’t played in years and reminded me of how awesome those games were.

I tend to play multiple games at once i.e. dip in and out of completed ones for trophy clean-ups. Replays aren’t as time consuming as you think – they tend to be way quicker because at that point you know the game very well. If a replay is taking too long, just play another game in between and come back to it. It doesn’t need to be done in one go.

Some people just like it. I know one guy that has hundreds of platinums. I think it might be 150 but probably more. He enjoys it. There is a sense of achievement. I don't do it myself but I'm always glad to platinum a game.

In my experience, I find that people who have 100s of platinums do so by playing all those exploitative My Name is Mayo type trash games where you can get the plat in 2 hours just by clicking a button a few times. Games like that prey on trophy hunters. You’re just buying a platinum at that point. I have 40 platinums which to most trophy hunters would seem small but they’re all high profile games I enjoyed, and actually required a degree of effort. When I look at someone’s trophy list it tells me what sort of games they’re passionate about, it creates a profile, as it were, but if they’re just trophy hunting every crap that’s out there it’s meaningless. I don't get a sense of what type of games they enjoy or if they enjoyed them at all.

I know a guy who has over 300 platinums and he treats gaming more like a job than a hobby. Shortly after we got the Borderlands 2 multiplayer trophies together he said, “right, now we should now get the multiplayer trophies for The Pre Sequel out of the way.” I respectfully declined because I actually wanted to play Borderlands 2 to completion, and when I do dip into The Pre Sequel I would like to fully immerse myself in the world first. Bouncing from game to game getting multiplayer trophies “out of the way” like some sort of checklist before even being properly introduced to the game world is immersion breaking to say the least.
At their very best (and this is rare) they can encourage experimentation with mechanics or meaningful exploration of the game world.

I would even go as far as to say in the case of immersive sims like Dishonoured and Prey that you haven’t really experienced the full game until you replay them because those games are designed to encourage different types of clever experimentation. Dishonoured 2 is my favourite platinum ever simply because the hidden trophies blew my mind as to how a situation could have been approached. You can actually complete the entire campaign in about half-an-hour which is insane. Took me about 6 hours just to complete the second level on my first playthrough because I was fully exploring.

Yeah I loved Assassin's Creed 2 and got the platinum, but the trophy for collecting 100 feathers (over multiple different maps and only having the general location and needing to climb all over the building to find and get to most of them)... yeah, that one f*cked me off by the end. Had a lot more free time back then though and less of a backlog of games.

I don’t have the platinum for ACII because I don’t have it on Playstation (will get the remastered collection soon). I have played ACII three times and each time I collected all feathers. For me, I just loved running around in that world and the emotional investment of why Ezio was collecting those feathers were enough. The payoff was worth it each time IMO. It’s also not that long – if you collect 10 feathers a day that’s about roughly 20 minutes a day? A week and 3 days in total to get them all.

Mine too. I actually collected all the trophies. Not for the true ending, because I got to fight the Riddler!

However many minutes of likely pre-rendered footage they produced for the pachinko machine will have cost far less, taken far fewer people, and been much quicker to produce than an entire game.

Even if those character models are suitable for use in-engine, that's a tiny percentage of the overall work that would be involved. There's nothing to stop them doing both pachinko and a remake, but if they were it could easily be another couple of years before there's something to show for the latter.

I love my mum, she's a legend, and I understand that she likes to look out for my wellbeing...... but jesus christ woman if I feel like ordering a chipper for my dinner please stop killing me for not having the microwavable chicken korma that you have in the fridge. I'm just in from work, I'm not in the mood to use any kitchen appliances

She's against takeaways, finds them too unhealthy. Whereas I'm technically
the fattest and hungriest man in the family and couldn't give a sh*t what I eat :pac::pac:

Me thinks Gamer Bhoy 89 mixed up the gaming discussion thread with the TA thread in After Hours.

Chipper food or microwaveable chicken korma sound equally shíte and unhealthy.

I'm laughing at the idea that "microwaving a ready Korma" constitutes effort. Jesus wept.

Not judging... but I'm totally judging :)

Clearly should have bought the Cooking Ability DLC.

It really is the ultimate first world problem...

I could have a ready cooked meal but... sigh... I have to turn a dial and push a button and wait a couple of minutes.

    Life... is so hard...

Korma is literally the easiest dish to make, either with premade sauces or even making your own sauce is straightforward.

I was meant to post it in the trivial annoyances thread.
