Here are the tuning details for Free sports. 11.426 V 27.5 FEC 5/6 DVB-S QPSK.It is currently showing a colour bars test card with a tone and a digital clock down the bottom. Also the epg info says Free sports. Hope that helps.

I'd is 52556 showing adverts for the channel now

Article mentions Ofcom licences covering satellite, cable and terrestrial platforms, then seems to focus on Freeview. Doesn't actually mention FTA or Freesat though.

    Edit.

Used the above search. Advert shows will be on Freesat 252.

Not a great start - it's in stretchyvision.

It's Flagged as Widescreen. There were widescreen transmissions from here in last few weeks.
It has been epg testing for the last week. But apparently we cannot discuss the new channel here.
Only on the Eirsports forum in broadcasting section.

I thought that referred to discussions about content rather than the technical stuff like this.

I could be wrong though ...

That's lunacy. What have Eir Sport got to do with this channel? The channel is not owned or operated by them.

For those unaware of the relationship between Eir Sport and Premier Sports, the two used to be the one company, Setanta Sports. The Irish operations of Setanta Sports were sold to Eir in 2016. However Eir Sport and Premier Sports continue to cooperate in relation to acquiring rights, technical facilities, and management (in particular, the services of Premier Sports chief executive Michael O'Rourke continue to be available to Eir Sport for a period following the Eir takeover.)

How this manifests itself on air is that Premier Sports and Eir Sport 2 are operated as a single service, broadcasting a common schedule with largely the same programmes and events. Programmes limited to the Republic of Ireland, such as UEFA Champions League, are blocked in the U.K., and GAA Championship coverage is blocked in ROI. The channel is branded on air as "Premier Sports" save when programmes aired only in the Republic of Ireland or primarily of interest to Irish viewers are aired. Only then is "Eir Sport 2" branding used.

The upcoming channel FreeSport will, I understand, primarily operate as a free to air taster channel for Premier Sports. As a result all of its content will be rights for which Eir Sport or others holds the Irish rights. It will only be available in this jurisdiction on free to air satellite and Freeview overspill. It won't be available on any Irish owned platform.

That is my rationale for seeking to limit discussion to the Eir Sport thread. It's effectively part of the Eir Sport family. I'll allow this thread to continue as a "pre launch/tuning" thread for present. But unless it turns out to have a radically different programming line up from Eir Sport 2, I think we need to treat it as a variant of that channel.

What version will be on freesat? The Premier Sports version I presume? But wouldn't that contain tv rights that are owned by others broadcasting in Ireland?

So will the freesat version be a lesser version of the UK Premier Sports? Basically wall to wall coverage of NRL, NHL and smaller football leagues in Europe (Belgium).

    Would any AFL be covered?

On a sidenote I read online that Quest on freesat who it seems are owned by Eurosport will be showing the Giro d'Italia.
    Edit: it is highlights only.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,066 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

All or nearly all of its rights will be held by Eir Sport in RoI. (I say nearly all because I hold open the possibility that in the future some GAA championship action might be shown - however I expect one of the key differences between Premier Sports and FreeSports to be a lack of GAA).

There will be no AFL. That's with BT Sport.

The advert for Freesports, if that is any indication, does have a brief GAA - hurling & football - piece.

I hope they consider upping the resolution on launch .... presently SD ... 720x576

A bit confusing regarding launch date. On the promo it states It's launching August 31st and on their website it says September. Wouln'd you think whoever confirmed the launch date would have noticed this mistake. I would hate to miss the launch day.

The Freesports promo vid is now in widescreen 16:9 ratio not the 4:3 stretched to widescreen

    11426 V 27500 FEC 5/6 DVB-S QPSK SID 52556

I tried to manually add that. It says transponder already exists.
The Food Channels are on that frequency.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭cupthehand1

    Live Football

    Belgium 3 per Week
    Portugal 2 per Week
    La Liga2 1 per Week
    SuperLiga Argentina 2 per Week

Also says Live Airtricity from Ireland

Weekly club shows from Barca TV, AC Milan TV, Dortmund TV & Bayern TV

Not bad at all for a free channel

I'll take that - nothing like Genk v Gent on a Friday night.

I think I might need to do a full rescan. A lot of these channels seem to change around frequency.

EDIT: I did a full rescan but no sign of it.

Btw what is the difference between a blind scan and a tp scan?

It is run by setanta/premier sports to get more subscribers so it will not be in HD for free

If you are looking for this on Freeview it will be had to find as it is only on the HD transmitters and that is only in Belfast here in the North

One thing that has struck me since seeing the trailer is that it could be used to show Eir Sport 1's slate of Allianz League games that Premier Sports have the rights to but don't show in Great Britain (on TV).

All Freeview transmitters have BBC 1, 2, ITV, Ch. 4, & Ch. 5 HD channels. You're thinking of those with the extra COM 7 & 8 muxes (Freesports on COM 8), & indeed Divis is the only one of those giving regular reception on this island.

COM 8 is on UHF ch. 34, & won't be subject to interference like COM 7 on ch. 33, so should be more receivable further south.

Tennis, Aussie rugger, ice hockey, Portuguese, Belgian, Spanish, Argentinian and Irish football, monster trucks, NASCAR, Speedway.

...... with the hope they might add some other sports in the future, like European handball, squash, table tennis and so on.
Those additions would make it even more attractive.

To be clear, the Australian rugby on the channel is rugby league (NRL), a different sport to the game of rugby union which Irish people will be familiar with. Sky have the rights to Australian rugby union.

Hopefully people might watch rugby league and see it's not a bad sport. Too many dismiss it without giving it a chance.
