you would wonder if he picked up a ban or had an operation because he hasn't fought since he beat ortiz inseptember 2022 so by the time the fight comes around in august it is just shy or 2 years

ha wondered the same about a "ban" as you say too close to 2 years of inactivity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

if a ban we absolutely would have heard on it. I reckon Ruiz just lacks real dedication and consistent focus. Goes through very lazy spells and then switches back on

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,921 ✭✭✭squinn2912

I’d tend to agree there. It’s an awful pity of him. I;d give him the Arreola fight as a bit of a tune up after the Joshua disgrace but beating Joshua, going 12 rounds with a non-committal Joshua and a fair then good win in CA and Ortiz should mean he’d be knocking on the door now of top 5 guys. He’s let the last 3-4 years just float by

so aj has said that his next fight date will be september 20th/21st in Wembley against the winner of either wilder v zhang or hrgovic v dubois, Turki said it will be against the one who looks the best

There is no doubt Usyk is the most skilful but his skill doesn't help him much taking on a man as tall as Fury.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

There absolutely could be doubt as to skill levels between Usyk and Fury. Unless you detail and reason out why Usyk is without doubt more skilful than Fury, it means nothing.

Fury can box, slug, fight. Can work inside. Has good feet, range and stamina. Can throw an array of shots from orthodox and southpaw. He is also capable of adjusting and adapting during fights.

now that I look at it, your claim is way too premature and certain in its statement.

I see recent footage emerged and looks like Fury has put weight back on ,

The man seems to still struggle with his mental health, You get the feeling he gets the head down an trains hard but it only continues for limited time before he loses the rag & causes some kind of self sabotage

For everyone i hope we see the best of both men , OT many times big fights once around when one of them is over the hill or checked out ,

Boxing changes so quickly 18 months ago there was so many exciting fight at HW now this is probably the last one left,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,678 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

Fury seemed fine weight wise at the press conference recently, he’s never going to be rocking an 8 pack but once he’s not 20st he can move well

Yes but there was a video knocking about yesterday & he looks far bigger,

But you wouldn't know if its mind games

was that the promo for the fight that was filmed ages ago, I think there’s 2 parts out now and his father said the game plan is to chase him down and catch him and smash him

There were gym images that folks were querying. Looked nothing to me. In a t-shirt and slight belly. He has always had a bit of a belly. Never ever ripped. The man is a monster. He has quite a weight-window. So whether he’s 255 one week or 270 another week, it’s nothing!!! He’s in training is all that matters.

Wilder v Anderson is being targeted by Turki to be added to the Crawford card in august if wilder is ready in time after Zhang

Hopefully Wilder gets KTFO in June. Gone from not fighting to now being promoted like he’s a beginner.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,921 ✭✭✭squinn2912

Think Wilder is going to get crumpled. I actually would like to see him doing well I’ve always liked him he’s exciting and has heart too. But the bubble is looking very burst. Zhang may well have his number.

In 2 weeks I’ll judge Fury and Usyk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

He’s a perpetual whinger, and wanted a “body” on his record.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,921 ✭✭✭squinn2912

you adore Mike Tyson who wanted to eat Lewis’ kids and is a convicted rapist. For long and long joshua was your hero; a drug dealer. When Fury was first fighting Wilder you (heavily) tipped Wilder. They’re all well capable of whinging and talking shite

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I adore Mike Tyson? Plenty times I have said he’s a scumbag and a rapist.

Where did I ever say I liked/adored Tyson as a person? I actually can’t listen to the man, and have said this before. I find him nauseating

As a fighter he was special at peak, in my opinion. Your conflating of the two (person and fighter) is your issue.

You’re being a bit disingenuous here with what you are saying.

Joshua my hero? Are you ok today?

And because I tipped Wilder to beat Fury (in fight 1), what on earth has this to do with how I view him as a person?

Funny you should say that I was a bit pissy yesterday!

But you’ve misinterpreted me I’ve always liked Wilder’s fights. I dont care a whole lot for him personally sure I dont know him. He talks awful shite but he entertains excepting the Parker fight. My point was nothing to do with him personally

Fair enough. I think he’s a prat, and after the Fury losses he became a whingeing prat.

Oh, and as a boxer I don’t rate him all that highly in an all-time sense

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I watched that Tyson Fury King of Morecambe thing. It's very short but enjoyable.. It's on BT sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,678 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

wilder may come across as an odd ball but in boxing to get big fights it’s all about getting yourself noticed and with his power shot he needed to add some kind of gimmick like trash talk and bomb squad, boring boxers are soon forgotten and plenty have a fake persona but the one that annoys me the most is AJ there’s no way that’s the real him all nice and smiles but look how marketable he is and he’s making a fortune away from boxing so fair play to him

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

AJ can be a bit dark at times and he lets the nice-guy mask slip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,821 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Hearn and co done a fantastic job with AJ
It's the reason he never spoke much because hes a bit dim & the mask drops

Big Femi is the real Anthony not the AJ we get

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,921 ✭✭✭squinn2912

I think you could call a lot of them prats.
nah no he’s exciting and can fairly bang but he’s just ok. Not top 20

Only the prats I call prats. And for me, Wilder these past few years is the dictionary definition.

As for exciting: In terms of his style and what he does, apart from power, he’s so fooking far from exciting. Downright clumsy I think.

When I think:feel of sporting excitement, there needs to be real aesthetic beauty. Wilder is not at all aesthetically beautiful as regards boxing

A few that spring to mind: SRL in full flow, Mike Tyson, Aaron Pryor, Nigel Benn, Thomas Hearns….dynamic, explosive, creative, menacing.

Well that’s a side issue in this discussion.

Yea he’s Bambi on ice but has that massive power. His KO of Spilka was great to watch. How many times have we seen the Stiverne meme? Ortiz 1 and 2 were both very exciting fights with impressive finishes.Dominic Breazeale as well was just folded. Fury 1 and 3 were both edge of the seat stuff and in 2 & 3 he showed enormous heart when he was getting battered. With Fury 1 he can feel very hard done by to not have the victory. He has limitations of course but he’s been involved in some very memorable fights with beautiful finishes.

Judging his ‘beauty’ against those is a pretty high bar. In terms of what we’ve got right now he’s been right up there. I think his goose is cooked now but he can certainly be proud of his record and people who follow boxing will always remember that right hand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Yep…you make valid points to argue Wilder being exciting. I was too harsh in my dismissal, now that I think of it. He did provde us plenty exciting/edge seat moments

Any accurate idea on what Fury and Usyk will earn for this fight? So, do they get a flat fee for fighting, and a PPV cut of the sales? We looking at 75-100 million? And, are they both 50-50 here as regards money to be made? Or is it 70-30 Fury…?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,678 ✭✭✭OmegaGene

deals done directly with turki for each fighter there’s no split as such he just said fight for x amount ? They say yes or no

Rumour fury is getting 100m but wether that is £ or $ nobody knows

interesting how the money rises for Usyk when he’s fighting fury, I thought he would have got more for beating Aj, Usyk will have to pay more to the ibf etc they all want a slice of the pie

    The internet isn’t for everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Part of the rise is as much to do with the magnitude of the fight as it is to do with AJs name and Fury's name. Both undefeated and both holding ALL the belts; for the unification….this a big factor in the enormity of the fight

I really hope we get Fury-AJ. That likely even does bigger financials…..be an absolute sham if AJ and Fury never fight, both pros years and years now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Why do we need a second Fury v Usyk fight before the first one even happens?

If Fury knocks him out that should be the end of it. If Usyk wins by landslide decision that should be the end of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,709 ✭✭✭✭walshb

The rematch clause is a fooking nonsense here.. as if they’re not getting already an obscene amount a money

Its standard in any fights of this size,

Anything can happen in there , you can lose in the strangest of circumstances & the through judges cheating

You don't want something out of the ordinary to happen & then the winner decides not to fight you again ,
