That would make sense. But do times not go by when you go under the start mat.
tdl-live is just the timing site - not the official results, which you can get from the Dublin Marathon site (where they seem to have weeded out things like wave issues). Your chip time will be the difference between crossing the start line and crossing the finish line. Gun time will most likely be your assigned wave starting time to when you cross the finish line. I'm not an official though and don't represent DCM - so only guessing.

@AlanPat Best advice I can give is that this is the only time you will ever run your first marathon so enjoy it! About the actual running, don't go banking time in the first half, it's a recipe for disaster (exhibit A and B - my first two marathons). There are a couple of hills and potential wind tunnels that can bite you on the ass later on. Your plan for even splits is a wise one - go for it!

This is my 4th marathon - all Dublin btw

Might as well add myself here too. 3:39 is realistic but 'no guarantees'. Might be a bit short in terms of 'overall mileage' covered, although got in a lot of speed and core work :) as well as good results in 'shorter races' :)

I'm now reminded why switching the 1000 mile thread from tables to Google Docs was such a great idea. Makes for less posts on boards.ie, but also a lot less fixing things. :D

Not really. There's plenty of decent eateries around Ballsbridge though. Roly's Cafe is pretty good: http://rolysbistro.ie/cafe/menu/lunch/

My details seem to have been dropped from the improvers thread, probably age-related! Could someone please stick my details on the table; pb 3.29.45, target time 3.29.44!
    Thanks

You'll be able to purchase a mediocre* serving of pasta at the Expo itself - not delicious but purely for function it'll do the trick.

    * mediocre in taste; the serving itself is quite substantial.

It's from 2015 though and Dublin is now a lot bigger, but some other event from that list must have jumped up in participation numbers as well by quite a bit.

    Amsterdam?

If moving back a wave do you need to do this at the expo or just go into the later wave on the day? The FAQ just says that you can’t change after 31st July.

There is no issue moving back on the day. It's only moving forward that they object to.

FWIW, the Garda Traffic maps for the course are much better than the official PDF.

Very useful for spectators, you can click on sections to see the expected time of arrival for each wave.
Also info on road closures and real-time traffic info.
Has most of the other marathon info on it too and quicker to navigate than the official site.

I'll probably break the internet if I try to put something in the table!! PB: 2:49:00, Goal: 3:19:59.

Not much running this past couple of years, looking forward to enjoying the race, and running first DCM since 2011.

    Heres the deal:
I signed up for the marathon a way back and decided not to do it about 6-7 weeks ago when I couldn't commit to the training. However I am starting to get tempted this week.

I have never ran a marathon before but I have some friends & family doing it this year. I do run regularly (but not the distances required for marathon training - about 100mile per month the last two months) around Dublin and other places. I recently competed in a 10mile race in a forest on a tough course and completed it in a time of 74mins.

I was thinking of plodding around but still aiming to hit 4 hours - is it possible or would it be too tough in peoples opinion. The furthest I have ever ran was 18 miles about 2 years ago.

It's possible to plod around and complete it, maybe not in that time. Apart from the 10 mile race, what other races do you do? How long are your runs most weeks?
