They should've renumbered the 11 and 11b to the 10 and 10a (as a reference to the original number 10 bus route) after the E Spine changes, however since the 130 will also be renumbered 10 after the D Spine changes, I don't think a renumbering of the 11 to the 10 can work

The same vehicles they used to serve the 155 and 46A routes yesterday?

On bustimes, the E1 and E2, as well as the 19, seem to be mostly served by PAs, most likely coming from the old 155/46a (Donnybrook) and 4/13 (Harristown) allocations.

The L12 and L14 are mostly SGs or GTs, most likely coming from the Bray depot's allocations.

It's ironic that the E1 is now mainly PA operated given the 145 rarely saw one allocated to it other than during peak hours! But yes, as you said, they've effectively moved all of the 46/155 allocation to it instead.

I don't think any "good bus" will be allocated to any E service anytime soon, the AX's are mostly operated on the seaside routes (7, 7A, etc.) If the AX's had operated during the weekend, at least one of the "rare" routes: 7E, 7D, would appear more frequent.

what do you mean “good bus”

It seems that the removing the 46A and 155 have given other buses a higher chance to get a PA. Today I saw a PA 7, 9 and 7A routes that RARELY get them, however I have yet to see a 4/13.

Indeed, given that a significant proportion of the Irish population attended UCD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭BusGuy

I mean like EV's, AX's all that sort of stuff.

What about the 44, 14 and others? They also need to get PA's, doubt a EW.

L1,2&3 all passed me while out walking the dog earlier. I was surprised to see a double decker on the L3 which has to navigate a very narrow road up the back of Delgany (said road is due to be widened later this year).

So I walked in the NCR into town today to OCS. Here's what I saw.

    1. At every stop that had timetables, the 46a paper timetable remains in place.
    2. No paper 11/11b timetables were on the stops.
    3. There were no helpers out at the stops to tell people about the change ( a reasonable expectation ), even at the key stops of OCS northbound and Parnell Sq.
    4. The working electronic boards do show the 11 and 11b, but the paper timetables being still 46a led to some confusion.
    5. The schedule, as we know, is vastly reduced from the 46a to the 11
    6. My TFI App still shows the 11 going from Wadelai but using the 46a stops ..
    7. Parnell Square 46a stop now has no info or nothing whatsoever on it ( the very bottom, outside the Sinn Fein offices).
    8. The 11 stop on Parnell Square has been retained for the new 11 and is now the other end of Parnell Square west. Some signposting from the 46a old stop at the very least would have helped but no. Not even a 46a cancellation yellow piece of paper.
    9. The Parnell Sq 11 stop still has the signpost "the 11 bus will be terminated from the 26th January" so that doesn't help either.
    10. Has the E1 or E2 used either of these stops ? Not on your nelly, its now a new stop in the middle of them all, so if you wanted to get to Phibsboro and used to get the 46a then its complete pick and mix.
    11. OCS northbound still has the paper timetables 46a and the E1 and E2 physical signs have not gone up on stop 281
    12. No helper staff out at either the E1/E2, or 11 or 13 stops.
    13. This was all this afternoon, on the first day of a new service.
    14. All the 11s I saw were SGs , if thats important to some people.

Out of interest, what is it that everyone on this thread seems to love so much about the older buses. I find the PA’s comfortable and have a lot of leg room upstairs but I’ve seen it consistently ranked at the bottom of tier lists, similar story with the Ew’s. Personally I find the newer ones more comfortable but that’s just me

    1. The old buses can have more kickdowns, and more power when climbing up hills.
    2. They leave a bit of nostalgia
    3. They attract a large number of bus spotters (including me, I'm a big AX fan)
    4. Nearly all 20xx buses have a ZF transmitter, again, having more power when climbing up hills.
    5. The petrol/diesel buses have a less failure rate then the EW/EA's/PA's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭BusGuy

I guess that is the least you can expect from the NTA.

The double deckers are actually shorter than the single deckers and easier to negotiate. Reason why the single deckers are banned from the 59. Only time you need the single decker is for low bridges like the O.

So they didn't even bother changing some of announcements that don't correspond with the stop name?

E.g Stops 812 and 800 (Annamore Parade) both have announcements saying Grangegorman in both directions, I'm curious why they couldn't have renamed both stops to that.

I genuinely thought they'd change the parnell square one to Parnell Square West, same with O'Connell Upper. I mean the 46A didn't have an announcement saying Phoenix Park or Dún Laoghaire once, which I find funny. (They didnt even bother changing IADT's)

E.g G spine changed a bunch of stop announcements e.g Barnville Green and St Gabriel's School so I'm curious why they didn't do it for the 19 with Corpus Christi NS or others. That's just my take on it though.

I agree, I'm surprised 14 hasn't gotten one yet. 44 has I'm pretty sure though but it's EXTREMELY rare.

What about the one that says Dundrum instead of Dundrum Centre?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,009 ✭✭✭caviardreams

    Piece in irish times today

"The E2 will depart from Harristown in Co Kildare, travel via DCU and the city centre, before heading down the N11 and completing its journey in Dún Laoghaire."

    https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dublin/2025/01/26/dublins-new-bus-routes-how-will-your-service-be-affected/

    Wrong Harristown surely!

    They'd never mix-up a Southside location!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭tnegun

If we could get that mistake in the Dart+ plans we could have the Tullow rail line reinstated!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,619 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

Changes seem to be broadly positive for me. Having the E spine 24 hours is good for me although it's rare I'm out that late that I'd need a 24 hour about 10 years too late :LOL.

L27 is more or less the same as the 63 routing wise hopefully it'll be a bit more reliable as I've found the 63 very poor in the last 2/3 years always seems to be lottery waiting for it in DL lately. L26 should be a big upgrade for those going to Blackrock from Cornelscourt, Cabinteely and Deansgrange over the 84/a.

I was actually the first, and fairly certain still the only, driver to take a PA out on a 14. They're not route approved due to the roundabout at Artane SC, which I did find tight in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭BusGuy

How can driver's handle such tight turns on the 44B? You might aswell remove the service…

I spotted ex-SG471 on the N2 when I was on the new route 19

Spotted a small issue on the E1 timetable this morning, most services have timetabled around 15 minutes between Foxrock Westminster Grove and Foxrock church when it's about a minute in run time.

In turn that's causing services to either have to stop for an unnecessary amount of time or some are just continuing on around 10-15 early depending on the driver.

Also checked E2 and it too has 10 mins between foxrock park & foxrock church, causing the same issue

Also on TFI app last time in Northwood is still listed as Northwood,Bray. Awful hassle on bustimes.org figuring out which service is going in what direction based on destination
