Do you think we'll (the 4 provinces) will make much out of it? I assumed it would be more a training camp with matches.

I imagine MLR are paying the provinces a good deal to get them over. That will be a great experience for the youngsters too.

Looks like Jean Kleyn has had an operation on his thumb for some ligament damage according to his Instagram account. - https://www.instagram.com/p/BqDQxtlFvOj/

No idea how long he could be out with for that but not ideal for the back to back Castres matches if he misses those.

Fup, that's not ideal. Kleyn is vital to the pack.

Me too but happy to have Barnes for the away game. Never thought I'd put "happy" in a sentence relating to Wayne Barnes but he's one of the best in the world at the moment.

Munster get feck all from that though. I'd rather pay extra for genuine one and least Munster get some small benefit too

Munster get nothing, Lifestyle have already paid for the priviledge of being official retailer.

(Following this to it's logical conclusion).

If they don't shift as many jerseys as they otherwise would have, presumably they'll pay less for the privilege in the future. Whatever way you look at it, it's costing Munster.

For football, teams get a cut of the jersey sales as well. Would be a terrible business decision from the manufacturer and the club to pay everything in a lump sum off projected figures, it can hurt the manufacturer if sales are less than projected, and similarly can hurt the club if sales are booming and they've signed for a lump sum at the start.

The lump sum is more a sponsorship deal to get the club to allow the manufacturer to produce their gear.

Makes sense. I think the larger point is that, ultimately, the club will get some benefit if you buy the gear thru official means.

Munster don't have any junior SHs that are up to scratch. Hence why Cronin was given a contract. Scrumhalf isn't a position you can throw a young academy player in and say "ah sure off you go be grand". Stafford picked up a couple of caps but he's not at that level yet.

There's a balance between blooding your academy players, and sticking them in and hanging them out to dry. They're not all ready to go as soon as you call them up.

This isn't going to quell the speculation about Murray's injury

Maybe Hart and Williams are gone at seasons end and this is planning ahead ala Taute. Or maybe JVG just has a half back fetish

Edit - is Neil Cronin on one year contract too?

Signed an extension until 2021, and Nick McCarthy is joining next season. So likely Hart and Williams are out the door.

Still need cover for 6N. And handy to have vaxk up options in Europe too if we get to pool stages.

Mathewson has been really good. I'm delighted he is being retained.

Hart will leave. Williams is likely to get a one year offer to cover the World Cup.

I think AM having his stay extended was always going to happen. Nobody at Munster is going to suffer from his presence. Behing Murray, the scrum half situation is a bit of a car crash. Duncan Williams is a Pro14 level operator and that's about it. I'd still expect Murray to appear on a pitch in 2018.

Cronin is unproven at Pro14 level and 26. He's not going to be the answer. James Hart has been a complete bust. Jack Stafford is 22 at the end of the season and has 20 minutes of pro rugby off the bench. Craig Casey, I know nothing about. 2nd year in the academy but if his physical stats are accurate, I don't see him making it as a pro player.

I wouldn't be surprised to see AM have his contract extended beyond this season either. But Munster will need to come up with something soon enough with both Williams and Matthewson turning 33 this season. It's not a million miles off the Pienaar situation, currently.

If they don't extend Matthewson's contract, I reckon they'll go to the market for a NIQ option.

EDIT: Totally forgot about Nick McCarthy.
