"Standards" are higher than ever. Ten years ago Hook (or whoever) said what he said and it was limited to whoever was listening to the radio at that time. Without social media there would have been no furore and we'd all have just moved on.

We're living in a period of incredibly oppressive censorship, George Orwell couldn't have dreamed it up, and the truly mad thing is that it's self-inflicted.

Don't see how it can be termed censorship if Hook and co still say what they want to say? Difference may be that people are more likely to voice their criticism. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences from that speech.

I am trying to get my head around your point but I'm not sure I see it.

I think in times gone by Hook would have been jettisoned for some of his remarks. He's kept around because there is an appetite for contrarian indecency that ultimately drives revenue, and this revenue keeps Hook on the air despite the fact that his public persona has a disquieting indecency to it by most peoples standards.

I think public standards are generally a lot higher in some parts - maybe leading to an expectancy that is unachievable, but large elements the media have been pulling the other way in my opinion.

I don't feel that the media in anyway reflects the desired standard of values of the public however. Obviously the gutter press have always been in a race to the bottom, but for over a decade now the likes of the Independent has delivered countless missteps.

Hugely off topic though so will leave it there.

Great to see Tyler back but I prefer him at outhalf but then again it's great to see Bill start a senior game at outhalf too so overall not too bad to see both players getting a game.

He would be a nobody if it wasn’t for the people who hate him amplifying his ****e

    Really?

One of the very few Irishmen to reach the pinnacle of an international solo sport.

    Multi-award winning journalist .
    Multi-award winning ghostwriter.
Central chronicler of, and direct participant in, the fall of Lance Armstrong, one of the huge sports stories of this century.

Famously sued by the cowboys who run cycling leading to the setting up of a crowdfunded "fighting fund" approaching €100,000.

Far from a nobody, whatever you think of him.

When and in what sport? I don't remember him reaching the pinnacle of any sport

As an aside, I like him as a writer but his droning on about GG really bored the sh!t out of me

It'll be on eir sport. Every pro14 game is available on premier sports, is that not the case with eir as well?

He cycled in the Tour. That's something only 180 odd cyclists get to do every year.

I hate his writing style but he's good to have around.

And a lot less than 180 are clean when they do it

Like Kimmage! I don't get how his anti doping crusade makes up for the fact that he was not a clean athlete

He cycled in the tour while doping. He was no more at the pinnacle of his sport than his fellow cheat Grobler is at his.

I guess you could argue that he can understand doping better than most.

For most journalists, doping (and indeed professional sport) is an abstract concept. Kimmage can more legitimately claim to be qualified to speak on it.

It's a shame the way he carries on because it means people don't really pay any attention to what he's saying, they just dismiss it as Kimmage going off on one again.

I can see his frustration with Irish rugby tbh. We don't really take doping seriously.

The provinces would be missing a trick if they didn't have programmes in place with the importance of physicality and recovery in the modern game. There's virtually no testing for pro players below international level, and the IRFU would probably cover up an adverse finding anyway

Tbp win for Glasgow and deny Ospreys a lbp. Munster can go 2nd (ahead on points difference) if they beat Cheetahs.

I'd nearly have preferred an Osprey's win to try and narrow the gap to the pool toppers but Ill be happy if we get to take 2nd place this weekend.

That BP win puts us back into 2nd place in our conference but we're still a distance from Glasgow.

He wasn't great but he wasn't on the field when Munster conceded 3 of the 4 Cheetah tries. Easy to take a cut at him but he wasn't to blame for the mess that Munster found themselves in.

He was brought on to see it out and steady the ship. He did the opposite and that rippled right through a young team.

Thought Scannell did excellently when he came on, some very strong carries and yet another massive kick. Williams also came on and had a positive impact.

Very entertaining game. Cheetahs may feel they left that behind them as had ample opportunities, their winger alone bombed 2 dead cert tries.

Ignoring that our lack of 13 let them run straight through our midfield, twice.

    but yes all Keats

He saved our bacon when cleared the ball from a Cheetahs 5m lineout and then regathered the ball from his own kick.

I think the altitude was killing them at that stage too. suddenly they just couldn't stop going backwards. In attack and defense.

yes he had a game he'll hope to forget but lets not get the knives out just yet

While Scannel's kick was another good one, does he work on passing at all? His passing game when he does pass which is rare, is very poor! And the decision to not pass many times is costing us ground/tries
