    Laughing at your search criteria!

That rant sounds beyond incompetence on the organisers part. Feel sorry for yer man to be in that situation.

Did they not ask around to see how other cons were handled to get a gauge of what to expect!?

I couldn't resist looking for the angriest posts!

The sheer fury and venom people are spitting tonight, it's great reading.

Aw crap - I've coach tickets booked for the morning to take my very excited 10 year old son to what sounds like a supremely **** and very poorly run profiteering event. I hope organisers get sued to **** and left penniless.....

I think it's pretty clear the best option would be to cancel but I gotta look at alternatives cause feel like I can't let him down - Can anyone local or in the know please post suggestions on where to bring a 10 year old kid in Dublin on a Sunday?

Anything considered, incl museums, science orientated stuff or technology etc.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated :(

Check out he Dublin Science Gallery too, they've got an exhibition on robots and automation at the moment https://dublin.sciencegallery.com/

No interest in this event, a friend was attending with her 10 year old so news of the carry on grabbed my interest as the afternoon went along. Was able to message her with updates and such. Been reading through the comments on the GamerCon Facebook page. I'm literally cringing at some of them.
'My kids got soaked from the rain' This is Ireland, it rains most of the time. Wear a decent coat.
'The cues (queues!!) were too long' Did they really expect there to be no queues at an event such as this?
'We were skipped in the cue (queue)' It isn't the responsibility of the organisers or their staff to stand up for people not willing to stand up for themselves.
'There was adults and teenagers pushing kids out of the way' Again stand up for yourselves and your kids!
I saw the video of the man screaming at organisers/staff, it was absolutely disgusting. I understand the organisers messed up but that kind of behaviour is disgraceful.
For the record my friend and her kid had a great afternoon. Queued for just over an hour but were prepared for it. Warm jackets and umbrellas, sorted. Once inside the kid was chuffed to bit. Said the food outlet wasn't great but again prepared for such an event and had packed lunches just in case.
I've seen people say they want reimbursement for travel cost, hotels etc. Taking the p1ss. An afternoon might not have gone as expected but get yer fricken priorities right. There's a lot worse going on at the moment all across the planet.

So glad I didn't go to this atrocity!
Have genuinely had more fun at the Arcade and Retro meetups.
Cidey knows how to put on a party!

I think the whole thing boils down to that the event was oversold. Upwards of 20,000 tickets sold for a venue that has a max capacity for ~9,500.

So, yeah... a lot of irate families and attendees who came from all over Ireland, travelled for ages or spent extortionate amounts on a hotel stay to be left standing in the rain to be told that they couldn't come in. (The rain was just insult to injury).

Some people got in, and had a good time.

Your "a lot worse" point is moot seeing that you decided to throw your two in on this issue. ;)

Also, if you want to go the grammar nazi route it's "chuffed to bits". Needless use of the word "literally". It's a filler word like "like".

I don't suppose there is any chance of getting a refund on the sunday tickets is there? Friend is meant to be going tomorrow with her sons, but after seeing todays carry on she isn't very keen.(Queuing in the piddling rain for ages after an early start and a long bus journey wouldn't be my idea of fun either, let alone with kids!). The website only states saturday tickets so i suppose it would be a case of taking the hit would it?

what respectful event would have PornHub t shirts for sale knowing the age range of the demographic?!

While this is a valid question, perhaps the more important question is: Who in the name of hell would walk around wearing a PornHub t-shirt?

"Hey everybody, I am fond of Internet pornography and want the world to know about it!"

"Hey everybody, I am fond of Internet pornography and want the world to know about it!"

    Christ, Simpson's quotes invading everything.

    First thing I thought of...

Could be a case of "I'm wearing this t shirt ironically... I hope that comes across... oh god... I've made a huge mistake!" (insert Arrested Development gif)

Like I said, the organisers messed up big time. No excuse for the over selling, pure greed. I can understand the anger of course but the actions of some of the parents led to the situation deteriorating. Do you honestly think the staff getting screamed at led to them hurrying to let the perpetrator and his back up brigade in the door any quicker? Not a hope in hell. No one, regardless of their jobtitle, should be expected to put up with that kind of behaviour.

For my use of the word, literally I do apologise. I'm not a grammar nazi, nor any other kind of nazi. I just hate it when people spell the word queue wrong, it's a thing. I'm working on it 😉

    Brilliant! :pac:

EDIT: Oh.. I thought you were "literally apologising" and being sarcastic... That's why I'm laughing... Well no need. I realise that there are varying levels of literacy. Especially online. I've had to stop correcting people too as it got me nowhere.

I can empathise (sympathise? I get those two confused) when people have been waiting for hours with no update they will unfortunately lash out at anyone who would be "in the know". It's a terrible fact of human nature.

So, I totally agree with their outrage but that was the actual event organiser who was at the front door. I'm not saying he's the sole person responsible, but the one who should have had some common sense to limit ticket sales to match the max attendance of the venue.

    Overselling the event + travel + fatigue + rain + being told that they can't get in = I AM F*CKIN' P*SSED!

Agreed. I took one look at the queue, which by 12:30 had stretched most of the way around the building adjacent to the Convention Centre and just turned and left. Ended up over at the Science Gallery and had a great time

Reminds me of the bah humbug guy on the independent article about gamers and to grow up.

Perhaps your friends have simpler tastes but they got in, some people traveled up from down the country and didnt.

There are allot of worse things going on across the planet but who cares, we don't just forget everything that happens locally because its worse elsewhere.

The same simple minds in Ireland look down on gamers yet don't mind skulling back the old pints yesterday while the young ones wait around or watch. At least parents going to this event were trying to bring a little fun to their families.

Just for the record I had nothing to do with Gamercon, nor did AsOne, my organisation.

We were in brief contact with them about doing so but they stopped communicating with us, then a day or two later they sent a guy into our facebook group to advertise the fact he was running the fighting games, without sending us a mail to say they'd gone with someone else.

As someone who's run larger scale events before, everyone knows you patch your consoles a couple of days in advance, and you especially don't rely on the PSN for speed. Mistakes happen and you occasionally have to, but the entire show? Bad stuff.

We are currently awaiting if the amounts of money they promised as prizes will show up or not.

Took my two kids yesterday, arrived at 10am, queued for around 45mins which was a pain but not totally unexpected.
Feel sorry for those that came later as the weather was deteriorating.
To be honest not sure what we expected once inside but was not impressed overall.
Had great potential but was not set up for the volumes of people.
Biggest disappointment really was kids just wanted to play one game of anything and couldn't get on.
People were camped out with flasks and sandwiches at consoles and were not moving.
Thought that to be fair somebody-staff should have been moving people along after 10-15 mins.
Not talking about the competition but rather the public gaming on ground floor.
After queuing for so long it would not have been unreasonable to expect to get to play a game and 'take part' for 10 mins.
Serious lack of visible staff on the floor, plenty security but didn't seem to be a lot of people working the set ups apart from the organised ones like the VR etc.
Also surprised to see that people queued for the game shop inside for 20-30 mins to get to till and find out that card machines not working and had to go to other till.
Overall very disappointing. Not sure it was the end of the world as we know it bad, but it has put me off the idea of attending again.
Pity, as kids were so excited on way there, they couldn't wait to leave after a few hours though.

My husband seen some kiddo get all excited about some dude walking about and kiddo asked dude could he get a photo with him. Dunno who the dude was, must be some YouTuber but this little kiddo looked so excited and happy. Dude obliged for a photo - wearing a pornhub tshirt.

Think we were one of the lucky ones, we got there at 10:50 and in the door at 11:15.

Was there anywhere for playing Nintendo DS? Young lad brought his yesterday and we expected to see a group somewhere playing but didn't see anything.
The place was so badly laid out we didn't know what was where. We didn't realise the talks were on the top floor, we thought they were going to be on the stage on the ground floor. By the time we discovered this and seen mad queues everywhere upstairs we couldn't be bothered.

It wasn't our kiddo, some random kiddo and his own father took the pic, my husband just observed it all while waiting in a queue.

Certain porn sites now sponsor esports teams.

Many events demand attendees not wear their shirts but...well... GamerCon, apparently.

Well whoever he was some kiddo seemed to recognise him anyway and he obliged for a photo. We didn't know him from Adam so we assumed he was some youtuber.

I was going to ask the same thing.

The posts on social media are a joke. Everyone knows it was a complete **** up and it was unacceptable for sure but like someone else said

My kids got wet, yes they did it's Ireland and it rains, it was raining in the morning when you left your home. I saw clowns in t-shirts. Wrap up and bring an umbrella.

Oh my kid has autism so unacceptable ?? Whats that got to do with anything? No special treatment? Saw a guy in there in a wheelchair who had a guide dog too, looked to be having a great time and was escorted around and looked after.

Most of the people giving out weren't even going to the event look at the posts, Did you go yourself? Nah no interest, So why are you telling people not to go??

Parents giving out about i didn't get to do this or that,i couldn't find this? Many mails and advertisments went around about the Mobile App, Had all the times of everything and location. Why didn't you use it?

As soon as refunds were mentioned that was the end of it. You'll have everyone chancing their arm now. Even the people that got in and had a great day.

Like any convention all there usually is is a few guests, Some cosplay and all merch stalls. So i don't see how it was any different than any other.

Stories that your man Fergi or Ferdi done a runner, But videos of him outside talking to people. Saying it was shut down which is bollocks they had guys counting people at the top of each stair case - escalator and when it was full they had to stop to allow the people to come down.

Its a business of course they sold more tickets. They planned the event, planned the footfall, Thought they could manage but weren't ready so they ****ed up there.

Only a quarter of volunteers showed up.

The team looking after games updates ****ed up.

And the pornhb tshirt - Its a convention for everyone, if someone wants to wear or sell a pornhub tshirt then so be it, If you saw some of the videos you let your children watch of the youtubers that were there, You'd be more shocked.

I for one hope it comes back next year, All the issues are fixed and maybe a different venue.

All and all its down to bad planning and management, Your man is getting death threats online which is a farce

If it all went to plan people would still be moaning about something.
