I think once you start you have to keep going. As, in you do the 1st 17 minute test, then you can take a breather, and then you do the 2nd one.

    I wouldn't bother.

    Followed by
I don't know how much they can prepare you for reading paragraphs in the verbal reasoning

eh... so you don't know what you;re talking about...

These tests are ranked. For me its worth my time, money and effort trying to achieve a high ranking score. The higher the score the quicker you get to the supervised test, then interview. Investing a little money now can pay off in the future.

Defo, I got Job Test Prep for the HEO exam and it really helped. I was of the same opinion as you. The aptitude tests are the hardest hurdle (imo) to get through.

Yeah I didn't get anywhere near finished, I struggle with maths problem solving and I got more than half wrong. Do these type of questions any relevance to the position we will be filling, if I could complete the questions in that time and get them right I wouldn't be working for EO salary...

In the last EO exam, I got 100% in the numerical. :D

I know they're hard but you just need to pass. It's not counted towards your ranking score.

I didn't do any extra prep apart from the sample but if anyone feels they need the practice, then it's definitely worth paying for extra tests. Just keep practising. It won't be long now until the tests are live.

Do you know this for sure? It's not in the familiarisation material, they may have changed it this year.

I've emailed them for confirmation, no response yet.

They won't say either way but that's the way it has been for years. I'd be very surprised if they changed it now. But no, I don't know for sure.

Has anyone applied for, and heard anything back about the Senior Information Communications Technology Specialists positions that were advertised just before Christmas?

  • Registered Users Posts: 38 meandmymonkey

I took the practice test, are they for real with the numerical test! It's not NASA we're applying to!

Just did them too. 😲 they are awful.
Not like any I've seen before

I found the examples for the numerical ones handy enough. But then again there is no timer. I must do the practice test itself, its harder?

Yes the examples were no problem, the actual sample tests with timer are a different level altogether...

The timer sample tests for SHL are very hard. Its a lot harder when timed trying to work out the calculations. Trying to practice them as best I can and go through sample questions as well as taking note of formulas most likely used for calculations. Best of luck everyone!

Just got an email and text there now about the tests. Link and log on details provided.

They really are. Did your report at the end say which questions you got wrong? Mine only said I got X out of 30 wrong and didn't tell me where I went wrong, so much for practising if you don't know where you went wrong!

This really got to me, especially for the verbal assessments.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭JJayoo

The verbal reasoning practice test is very frustrating and unclear. If it was true or false then I would have no problem.

I'm not sure. I think the tests will be made available from tomorrow. So here may be a further text in the morning.

2 years as far as I know but you can apply for the open.

Just wondering where you read this - Couldn't see anything in information booklet?

I emailed PAS to ask if they are treating the numerical scores the same as the last competition (where you just have to pass, but the score is not taken into account when determining your panel number) and I got the below joke of a response!

    Dear Monife,

Thank you for your email, we cannot divulge the marking scheme at this stage but you will receive further details once the results are issued.
    Regards,

    Large Volume
    Recruitment

How is that fair or transparent? If we knew beforehand, we could spend less time preparing for the numerical and more time on the verbal. It's also really annoying because I do much better in the numerical tests.

That numerical practice test was unbelievably hard!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭Monife

That numerical practice test was unbelievably hard!

The example questions and answers on their website are extremely easy yet their practice (and actual) tests are so difficult. Very misleading!

Did the practice test tell you which questions you got wrong?

  • Registered Users Posts: 957 ✭✭✭MuffinTop86

No, but in fairness there weren't many that were right.
I did better in the verbal. but again I don't know which answers were wrong.
It's annoying because they're usually the answers that veer on the cannot say side. God I hate this stuff.

Those who have completed actual tests, can you say if they were similar to practice ones?? They are a lot more difficult than ones for AO!! :O
